  • Patent number: 9513990
Abstract: Technologies are generally described for systems, devices and methods relating to generation of an instruction to store data. Read unit length information are identified for data. The read unit length information includes a read unit length. The data has a data length. The data length implicates a first error correction code of a first size. The read unit length relates to an amount of the data to be read as a unit from a memory. The read unit length is different from the data length. A second error correction code is determined to store the data. The second error correction code is based on the read unit length information. The second error correction code has a second size. The instruction is effective to store the second error correction code in association with the data in the memory.

  • Patent number: 8041889
Abstract: An information processor includes a rotating magnetic disk that stores therein data, an accessing unit that accesses the magnetic disk, a detecting unit that detects an abnormal state. The abnormal state is a state that a user takes an action that may cause the magnetic disk to vibrate. The information processor further includes a control unit that terminates an access to the magnetic disk and stops rotation of the magnetic disk when the detecting unit detects the abnormal state, and an output unit that outputs a request for the action after the control unit has stopped the access and the rotation.

  • Patent number: 6707630
Abstract: A storage medium life management method, storage device and storage system detect the life of a storage medium. Medium life management information indicating the read/write state of a medium is recorded on the storage medium. A drive reads out the medium life management information from the storage medium when the storage medium is loaded, and updates the medium life management information pursuant to the operation of at least one of the reading and writing of storage medium. Then, the drive writes medium life management information to the storage medium when the storage medium s unloaded. This medium life management information is used for determination of the life of a medium in either a drive or host. Since management information corresponding to an actual read/write state can be obtained, the deterioration of a storage medium can be accurately detected.

  • Patent number: 6624961
Abstract: Formation of a partition is quickly performed. Management information areas such as a device area D1, system areas S1 and S2, an optional device area OD1, and the like are produced by writing necessary data, and with respect to a data area, a running amount of a magnetic tape corresponding to its capacity is calculated, and the magnetic tape is made to run by this running amount. Further, also with respect to a search and the like in the case where reproducing/recording is carried out from/to partitions formed in this way, a necessary running amount of the magnetic tape is calculated, and the magnetic tape is made to run by this running amount.
