Patent number: 8641860Abstract: Methods for adhering parts together using part gap spacers are provided herein. Part gap spacers are formed in a selected pattern and a selected height on a surface of at least one surface of two parts to be oppositely disposed. When disposed opposite each other, at least some of the part gap spacers contact the opposite surface, and establish a standoff distance that is generally uniform, and thereby creating voids. Adhesive is disposed in at least some of the voids to adhere the part surfaces to each other. Further methods comprise forming part gap spacers on multiple sides of a third part to be disposed intermediate two surfaces. The part gap spacers can be formed in a variety of shapes, including bumps, tapers, ribs, and flange edges.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2009Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventors: Paco Flores, Anthony J. Patent number: 7791833Abstract: The invention relates to a spindle motor having a deep-drawn baseplate and an aperture to receive and secure a bearing system to rotatably support a rotor. To avoid having to machine the bearing receiving portion of the baseplate in a complex process, the invention provides for a separate bush to be disposed in the aperture in the baseplate to receive and secure the bearing system. Compared to the baseplate, this bush can be worked in a simpler and more cost-saving process.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2005Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignee: Minebea Co., Ltd.Inventors: Thilo Rehm, Claudia Hoffmann

Patent number: 6954017Abstract: A motor of this invention is provided with a sleeve-type bearing impregnated with oil for supporting a rotor assembly including a shaft and a rotor member. A lower face of the rotor is provided with at least two peripheral wall portions, an inner peripheral wall portion and an outer peripheral wall portion, which surround the shaft with a gap therebetween in a radial direction. The peripheral wall portions are accommodated in an annular recessed portion so as to surround an open space over a sleeve constituted the sleeve-type bearing and has a lower top of the most inner part. The lower end of the inner peripheral wall portion is located lower than the lower end of the outer peripheral wall portion, and the lower end of the outer peripheral wall portion is located lower than the lower top of the annular recessed portion.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2004Date of Patent: October 11, 2005Assignee: Nidec CorporationInventors: Shuji Takahashi, Shinichi Murata, Tomoyuki Inoue

Publication number: 20030179496Abstract: A read sensor and method of making the same using an etch-stop layer are disclosed. The method is particularly suitable in connection with techniques requiring the partial removal of the capping layer, such as exchange tab (ET) and lead overlay (LOL) techniques. Basically, a thin “etch-stop” layer is deposited over a top free layer of sensor materials. The etch-stop layer is made of a suitable material such as copper oxide (CuO) or nickel-iron-chromium (NiFeCr). A tantalum (Ta) capping layer is then deposited over the etch-stop layer. When appropriate, top edge portions of the capping layer are exposed to a reactive ion etch (RIE) using a fluorine gas for removal. Advantageously, the etch-stop layer significantly reduces or eliminates damage to the free layer that would otherwise occur due to the fluorine gas RIE.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2002Publication date: September 25, 2003Inventor: Wipul Pemsiri Jayasekara

Patent number: 6532204Abstract: A disk recording system for disks such as videod isks or compact disks has a turntable on which the disk is supported adjacent a recording head. A shaft defining the axis of rotation of the turntable rotates in a bearing and that bearing is itself movable about an axis defined by another shaft. The bearing of the shaft is an air bearing and there is a damper unit for damping that movement. There may be a sensor for detecting the rate of rotation of the shaft defining the axis of rotation of the turntable. The radial displacement of the head relative to the axis of the turntable may be determined on the basis of rotation of the other shaft, and the rotation of the turntable controlled on the basis of the product of signals representing the radial displacement and the rate of rotation of the shaft, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1998Date of Patent: March 11, 2003Assignee: Nimbus Communications International Ltd.Inventors: Alexander Numa Labinsky, Gerald Alfred John Reynolds, Jonathan Halliday
