  • Patent number: 8953306
Abstract: A load center featuring a two-piece dielectric barrier that securely retains a plug-on neutral rail and methods of assembling the same. The barrier includes a shield and a base having a protrusion that cooperates with fingers of the shield to securely retain the conductor in the load center. The shield is installed over the base and rests on hooks protruding from the base. This creates a distance between the protrusion and the fingers to allow the conductor to be inserted through a gap between the fingers along the conductor's skinny edge. The conductor rotates 90 degrees until it rests on the protrusion. The base and shield are snapped together, causing the hooks of the base to attach to the shield. At the same time, the fingers of the base move downward to rest against the conductor so that it is sandwiched securely between the protrusion and the fingers.

Optionally, a duct top and duct bottom can be placed on the stack top and stack bottom, respectively. A surge clamp engages the stack top or stack bottom. A bolt attaches the surge clamp to each duct side. A compression nut threadably engages each bolt. Rotation of a bolt moves the corresponding compression nut, which acts to move the surge clamp along a path that is oblique with the path of the compression nut. The surge clamp, when moved by the compression nut(s), acts to apply a compressive force to the busbar stack.

  • Patent number: 8570714
Abstract: An electrical distribution panel includes a panel box locating a ground bus in electrical connection with a ground input lug, a neutral bus in electrical connection with a neutral input lug, and a primary power bus connected to a power input lug through a main breaker switch. The main breaker switch is operable between an on position in which the primary power bus receives power and an off position in which the primary power bus is disconnected. Primary circuit breakers can be supported in the usual manner in connection with the primary power bus. One or more auxiliary circuit breakers are connected to the power input lug to receive power independently of the main breaker switch. An electrical outlet can thus be integrally supported in one of the side walls of the panel box to receive power independently of the main breaker switch.
