  • Patent number: 9217557
Abstract: Lighting apparatus may comprise elongated segments interconnected perpendicularly to form a grid light engine, each segment comprising groups of LEDs on both sides such that, when interconnected together, the grid light engine is operable to emit light inwardly to a plurality of grid squares formed by the segments. The apparatus may further comprise a back panel light engine comprising LEDs, the back panel light engine being coupled adjacent to the grid and operable to emit light from its LEDs through the grid. This architecture can allow for light from different sets of LEDs to be projected in different directions. When the different sets of LEDs emit different spectrum outputs, the light fixture can appear visually different depending upon the viewers' perspective. When the different sets of LEDs are controlled separately, visual effects such as the appearance of depth, sunrises and sunsets can be generated.

The ballast is disposed on one side of the interface member, and a light emitting source is disposed on and attached to the opposite side of the interface member. Since the primary components of the lighting fixture are made out of sheet metal (e.g., with a thickness of approximately 0.5 to 1.0 millimeter), the lighting fixture may be configured to be significantly lightweight. Additionally, since the ballast and the light emitting source are respectively disposed on and attached to the interface member between the metallic sheet ballast housing and the metallic sheet reflector, heat generated by these devices may be easily dispersed via the ballast housing and the reflector.

Abstract: A recessed lighting system is provided. The recessed lighting system includes a light module and a driver separately coupled to a chassis. The light module includes one or more rotatable prongs for allowing the light module to pivot while the driver and chassis remain static. By being mechanically separate, the driver does not interfere with the movement of the light module. In particular, since the light module is not directly coupled to and is mechanically separate from the driver, pivoting the light module does not require space in a cavity of an associated housing to accommodate the rotation of the driver. This independent freedom of movement allows the light module to achieve a greater degree of rotation in comparison to light modules that are mechanically dependent on drivers.

Abstract: Selected connections in a prior art suspended panel ceiling are modified to provide fixed cantilevered extensions that support aluminum beams (ABs) with light emitting diode (LED) lights. The ABs with LED lights can be installed in the suspended ceiling to the fixed cantilevered extensions after the prior art portion of the suspended ceiling is completed. To create a fixed cantilevered extension, a second cross beam connector, preferably modified to provide an extended portion, is alone stabbed into a connection, without any attached second cross beam. Such fixed cantilevered extension is capable of subsequently having attached thereto, for support, a rolled aluminum beam (AB) with LED lights, after the prior art suspended ceiling is installed. The installation of the ABs with LED lights, subsequent to the construction of the suspended ceiling with the supports of the invention, does not affect the ceiling resistance to earthquakes.

Abstract: A luminaire having an electronically adjustable light beam distribution is disclosed. In some embodiments, the disclosed luminaire includes a plurality of solid-state lamps mounted on one or more surfaces of a housing. The lamps can be electronically controlled individually and/or in conjunction with one another, for example, to provide highly adjustable light emissions from the luminaire (e.g., pixelated control over light distribution). In some cases, a given solid-state lamp may include tunable electro-optic componentry to provide it with its own electronically adjustable light beam. One or more heat sinks optionally may be mounted on the housing to assist with heat dissipation for the solid-state lamps. The luminaire can be configured to be mounted or as a free-standing lighting device, in accordance with some embodiments. In some embodiments, the aperture through which the lamps provide illumination is smaller than the distribution area of the solid-state lamps of the luminaire.

The airflow cooling channels are defined in the space between the circumference of the cylindrical lighting package housing and a rim around the periphery of the light fixture. The cooling housing provides wide and long openings for air to rise vertically from below and through the airflow channels defined in part by cooling fins, and radial exit channels with vertical space for radially outward flow below a ceiling the fixture is mounted on, while also eliminating or minimizing the view through the airflow channels and to the ceiling.

Abstract: [Problem] To provide an illumination system with which a visual effect is provided such that it is possible to give an appearance of expanding depth on the far side of a wall face, even if a person stands directly in front thereof. [Solution] An illumination system (100) comprises a light source (130), and a reflection board (120) that provides a reflection face that reflects illumination light from the light source (130). The reflection lace of the reflection board (120) is a processed reflection face in which are disposed a plurality of grooves which are very narrow parallel straight lines or parallel curved lines with respect to a flat plane. A support body (110) supports the light source (130) facing and in close proximity to the processed reflection board of the reflection board (120). Light points appear, arranged perpendicularly in the center of the reflection board (120) facing the light source.
