  • Patent number: 6643461
Abstract: A Photoflash Projection Device and a method of use includes a linear discharge tube in an elongated concave reflector, powered by a self-contained multiplying circuit. The reflector, having a predetermined shape to include a Natural Log Function, novelly projects and spreads a uniform light density over a wideangle/graduated depth area. This permits a user to direct light above the field's rearground to achieve the ideal photographic illumination. The flash unit further includes a support stand mounting bracket that is adjustable relative to the base of the housing. The invention is particularly suited for large Group/Commercial photography.

  • Patent number: 6607291
Abstract: Described is a filter device for reducing the light output of a flash tube, while leaving the light output of a modeling light tube unaffected, in a dual lamp photo strobe unit. The filter device is comprised of a body that is sized to fit over a flash tube in a dual light, photo strobe unit. Critically, the body fits over the flash tube only, thereby leaving the modeling light unobstructed. It its preferred embodiment, the filter device has axial symmetry. It a most preferred embodiment, the filter device has a circularly shaped base, a tubular sidewall that extends from the base to an enclosing top section. The top section critically includes an aperture through which the modeling light will project, when the filter device is placed upon a photo strobe unit.

  • Patent number: 6601970
Abstract: The present invention relates to a linear lighting system with a linear light source. According to the invention, all the effective light around the optical axis emitted from the linear light source is introduced to a concave reflector so that the illumination is carried out only with the reflected light. The reflected light is controlled to be a converging or parallel beam of light so that a desired area is illuminated and the luminance is increased. In a mode of the invention, a cylindrical concave reflector 2 whose section taken vertical to a linear light source 1 is a part of an ellipse 2e having a first focus F1 at the linear light source 1 and a second focus F2 at an irradiation plane 3 (irradiation target point). The part of the ellipse covers an effective emission angle 2&thgr; of the linear light source 1, and a reflected light produced at the part from a light within the effective emission angle 2&thgr; is free of obstruction by the linear light source 1.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for compound angle illumination of items such as electronic components and features on those components that are within a field of view of a camera. Illumination assemblies are provided on opposite sides of the components, where illumination criss-crosses the component and its features. The illumination assemblies are also tilted at a vertical angle relative to the component. Light emitting diodes are used as a light source and, in one embodiment, refracting prisms are provided to refract the light from the LED's to provide the criss-cross illumination.

  • Patent number: 6575582
Abstract: An illumination device or a flash device of a camera includes a light source, a first optical unit and a second optical unit. The first optical unit is arranged to direct light from the light source to an object, and has a lens part disposed a middle portion of the first optical unit and having such an optical power that each of both lens surfaces thereof has a positive refractive power to cause diverging light from the light source to exit in a light-collected state, and reflective surfaces disposed on both sides of the lens part and arranged to reflect light from the light source toward the object. The second optical unit is disposed on a side nearer to the object than the first optical unit and having a plurality of lens parts. An illumination angle is varied by varying a relative interval between the first optical unit and the second optical unit.

  • Patent number: 6491405
Abstract: A photographic umbrella includes a skeletal frame and both a reflective inner surface and a diffusive inner surface secured in relation to the frame. The frame defines an inner concavity or recess that opens at a mouth portion. A first cover member made from fabric or other suitable material is secured to the frame, and an inner surface of the first cover member conforms generally to the shape of the inner concavity. This inner surface of the first cover member includes a highly reflective surface. A second, translucent cover member is placed in covering relation with the reflective inner surface of the first cover member so that the second cover member at least substantially covers the reflective inner surface. Thus, the second cover member diffuses light incident thereon and the reflective inner surface reflects light that passes through the second cover member.
