  • Patent number: 4777572
Abstract: A flashlight comprises a battery housing component and a lamp housing component, both with peripheral walls of elliptical cylindrical shape having, respectively, the same major and minor diameters, and terminating at one end, respectively, in a circular edge that lies in a plane that is oblique to the axis of the cylindrical wall by a selected angle A and includes a major diametrical chord of the ellipse of the walls. The minor diameter of the ellipse of the peripheral walls of each component is equal to the cosine of the angle A times the major diameter. The housing components are joined together with their circular edges meeting for rotation of the lamp housing component on the battery housing component, thereby permitting adjustment of the direction of the light beam relative to the axis of the battery housing component.

  • Patent number: 4656565
Abstract: A flashlight includes a barrel for retaining batteries. A reflector and lens located at one end is rotatable axially to vary the reflection dispersion of a light beam emanating through the lens from a lamp bulb. An internal cylindrical sleeve within the barrel provides the electrical path between a tail cap adjacent the one electrode end of the batteries and the end adjacent the reflector, lens, and bulb. The sleeve is a non-ferrous nickel plated material for improved conductivity between component parts.

  • Patent number: 4533984
Abstract: A variable-width-beam light apparatus is provided having a lamp and reflector assembly in which a lamp is supported for selective axial displacement along a longitudinal optical axis with respect to a focal point of the reflector to enable adjustment in the width or angle of divergence of an emitted beam of light. The lamp is selectively positioned by a rotatable knob carried by a lens of the assembly and positioned exteriorly at the front of the lens for operation. The rotatable knob connects with a shaft coupled by screw threads with a lamp engaging cylinder that is axially slideable in a tubular guideway such that rotational movement is translated to longitudinal movement to effect and control axial displacement of a lamp. The lamp is resiliently biased in a forward direction with respect to the lens.

  • Patent number: 4510557
Abstract: A headlamp device for bicycles and like vehicles, which includes a reflector, a bulb having its end fixedly inserted through an opening formed in said reflector, an illumination covering mounted on the front face of said reflector, and a battery casing attached integrally to the rear portions of these members. The improvement comprises an outwardly extending locking piece affixed to said end of said bulb, a cylindrical extension for the insertion of said end of said bulb provided to the rear edge of said opening in said reflector, and the rear periphery of said cylindrical extension being stepped to define locking portions differing in axial length, said locking portions being engaged within said locking piece, whereby, when said bulb is fixedly inserted into said opening in said reflector, said locking piece can selectively be locked onto said locking portions differing in axial length.

  • Patent number: 4495550
Abstract: A flexible flashlight which may provide light at any angle even in an environment in which the area in which to position a flashlight is extremely limited. A bellows is provided one end of which is threaded onto the body tube of a flashlight, the other end of which contains a bulb along with a lens and bezel. The bellows is made of a semi-rigid material so that once its curvature is formed it will remain fixed indefinitely until reformed by the user. The flexible flashlight may be placed on any flat surface or may be attached to any ferro-magnetic surface. In either case once the flashlight has been positioned both hands are free to perform work. An internal coiled helical cord is provided inside the bellows section to assure good electrical connection and to minimize the possibility of damaging the electrical pathway due to frequent flexion of the bellows.

  • Patent number: 4263743
Abstract: A novelty toy in the shape of a skull includes a cranial shaped housing and a pivotal jaw portion. The jaw is biased to a closed position by a biasing element and includes a grip portion to be gripped by the user of the device to move the jaw to an open position. A depending handle is also defined on the skull to allow the skull to be supported by the user. A pair of lights are mounted in the eye apertures and reflectors are rotatably mounted within the apertures surrounding the lightbulbs. A gear train connects the reflectors to a manually operated gear to allow rotation of the reflectors within the housing. Each reflector includes a colored lens that may be rotated in front of the light to provide a different appearance to the toy. The lights are connected through a switch mounted within the housing to a portable power source. The switch includes a plurality of positions for producing alternate lighting or flashing effects.
