Publication number: 20120230019Abstract: This is directed to a luminaire having a removable inner accessory and optical component. A luminaire can include a base and an outer accessory through which light generated by a light source placed in the base is transmitted. To customize the light emitted by the luminaire, an inner accessory having an optical component can be placed within the outer accessory. The optical component can be tuned to provide a light pattern corresponding to an environment in which the luminaire is placed. Because all of the components used to create the luminaire, other than the optical component, are standard, the luminaire can be easily constructed with a default optical component, but also easily customized at a minimal cost. In addition, the optical component can be recessed relative to the outer accessory to improve optical performance of the luminaire.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 9, 2011Publication date: September 13, 2012Applicant: LUNERA LIGHTING INC.Inventor: Donald A. Publication number: 20120212962Abstract: Provided is a light-emitting glass which is applicable to, e.g., white illuminators including a light-emitting diode as a light source, and which emits light of a warm white color when irradiated with near ultraviolet light and combines long-term weatherability with high heat resistance. Also provided are a light-emitting device equipped with the light-emitting glass and a process for producing the light-emitting glass. The light-emitting glass includes, as the base glass, borosilicate or silicate glass having a separated-phase structure, whereby the base glass is efficiently doped with, for example, transition metal ion clusters which emit light of a warm white color upon irradiation with near ultraviolet light. With this glass, it is possible to attain increases in excitation wavelength and emission wavelength. The glass thus emits, based on a multiple scattering effect, high-intensity light of a warm white color upon irradiation with near ultraviolet light.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2010Publication date: August 23, 2012Applicant: Tokyo University of Science Educational Foundation Administrative OrganizationInventors: Atsuo Yasumori, Tetsuo Kishi, Naoko Matsui

Patent number: 8192045Abstract: A hinge retaining mechanism for a fluorescent lighting system. A portable fluorescent lighting system which utilizes an extremely lightweight corrugated plastic panel made into 5 subpanels. At each end of the panel a U shaped channel is attached that forms the center panel and the opposing adjacent two panels into a trough or recessed pan. On each of the two remaining panels is attached another U shaped channel. Each of the U shaped channels includes a mechanism for supporting a high-tension mechanical hinge. The mechanical hinge is designed to float freely within the adjacent channel brackets. One part of the hinge is mechanically retained to the channel to prevent inadvertent removal of the hinge.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2010Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Kino Flo, Inc.Inventors: Alejandro Vazquez, Frieder Hochheim

Publication number: 20120127435Abstract: A light source device includes a phosphor layer formed on a base, and an excitation light source exciting the phosphor. A dichroic mirror is arranged between the phosphor layer and the excitation light source and inclined with respect to a propagation direction of excitation light from the excitation light source. An incident region of the excitation light and an exiting region of fluorescence emitted from the phosphor belong to a space on the same side with respect to the surface with the phosphor layer disposed. In a dominant wavelength of the excitation light, the dichroic mirror has a spectral characteristic of transmitting 50% or more of light of a p-polarized component and reflecting 50% or more of light of a s-polarized component. Fluorescence emitted from the phosphor layer can be extracted highly efficiently and propagated by a compact and simple optical system.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2011Publication date: May 24, 2012Applicant: PANASONIC CORPORATIONInventors: Hiroshi Kitano, Takaaki Tanaka
