  • Patent number: 7604360
Abstract: A sensor for measuring the properties of light from a light source is disclosed. The sensor includes first and second photodetectors that are illuminated by the light. The first and second photodetectors generate first and second photodetector signals indicative of the first and second weighted averages of the intensity of light in a wavelength band between 400 nm and 700 nm. The first photodiode is more sensitive to light having wavelengths between 400 nm and 500 nm than the second photodetector. The sensor also includes a color temperature processing circuit that generates a first processed signal that is related to a ratio of the first and second signals. The color temperature processing circuit could include first and second logarithmic amplifiers that generate first and second logarithmic signals, respectively, from the first and second photodetector signals and a subtraction circuit that forms a signal indicative of the difference between the first and second logarithmic signals.

Abstract: The present invention provides a drive system for an optical light modulation system employing multiple light modulation element pairs. The each pair is driven by a single motor which drives one axis around which one element of the first pair rotates while the other element of the first pair free floats and rotates about a second axis. While the second axis drives the rotation of the first element of the second pair and the first axis provides a rotation pivot for the second element of the second pair. Thus the two pairs share the two axises providing a more compact drive system that can be used more flexibly in an optical train of an automated multiparameter lighting system.

Abstract: The present invention is a multi-purpose light source of a unique design and specialized attachments which are also independently unique that can be used for, but not limited to, Dental, Medical, Cosmetic, and Industrial applications and procedures. Specifically the spectral irradiance of the light source can be controlled in such a way as to allow it to be used for procedures currently performed by lasers, electrosurgical devices, and hand instruments while retaining the benefits of the light source for other uses such as the photo-initiation of resins, tooth whitening, fluorescence, and illumination. The present invention may be used instead of a laser either independently or in conjunction with electrosurgical devices and hand instruments.

Abstract: For mixing different light colors from different LEDs or energized phosphors, an elongated mixing tunnel is used having a reflective inner surface. LEDs of different colors are optically coupled along the length of the mixing tunnel and at a first end of the tunnel. Light coupled along the length of the tunnel is reflected by an angled dichroic mirror that selectively reflects the incoming color light towards a single output port of the mixing tunnel. The dichroic mirror passes all other colors of light being transmitted towards the output port of the tunnel. Two, three, or more colors of LEDs can be used. Efficient and compact ways to energize phosphors are also described. Other optical techniques are also described.

Each area being intermittently illuminated long enough to induce a blink response from an animal (e.g. human) subject there, after which another area(s) is illuminated in the meantime while illumination of the initial area is not required since the subject(s) there would still be recovering from their blink response.

  • Publication number: 20090034284
Abstract: A multicolor illumination device using an excitation light source and a multi-segmented moving plate with wavelength conversion materials (e.g. phosphors) is disclosed. The exciting light source is a light emitting diode or a laser diode emitting in the UV and/or blue region. The wavelength conversion materials absorb the excitation light and emit longer wavelength light. Each segment of the moving plate contains a different wavelength conversion material or no wavelength conversion material. The plate is supported to move so that different segments are exposed to the excitation light at different times. The plate may be a wheel or rectangular in shape and rotates or oscillates linearly. When the plate moves, light of different colors is generated sequentially in time by the different wavelength conversion materials in different segments of the plate. The multicolor illumination device may be used in a projector system having a microdisplay imager for image display.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for replacing optical elements and a light fixture containing at least one light source for illumination, including a system for fastening and replacing at least one optical element by means of magnetic attachment. It is the purpose of the invention to achieve rapid replacement of optical components in connection with a light fixture. Another purpose is that this replacement may occur without using tools and without the operator interfering with the preload of the fastening. The purpose may be achieved by a light fixture, if the optical element and the light fixture include at least two interacting magnetic interlocking pairs, the interlocking pairs including at least one permanent magnet, where at least the permanent magnet of the interlocking pair is disposed in a magnetically non-conducting material. Hereby it becomes possible for an operator to replace optical components in a very large number of light fixtures rapidly and without risking damage to the components.
