Abstract: A new lighting system is provided that is particularly useful in projecting light to a deck where pilots use night vision goggles (NVGs). The system comprises a pair of subsystems that project light with different, complementary spatial distributions. One subsystem projects light with one spatial distribution, and the other lighting subsystem projects light with another spatial distribution that supplements the light from the first subsystem, so as to provide a system that effectively illuminates an entire target. The system is designed to substantially filter light so that the light does not interfere with NVGs. The system includes new optical projection structure that minimizes the overall size of the projection structure, and maintains good efficiency.

Abstract: Crime scene lighting devices are used in forensic criminology for illumination and investigation at crime scenes using fluorescence excitation. High radiation powers are required both for white light in the so-called general search and for the criminologically relevant UVA-blue-green range. Moreover, it should be possible for the crime scene investigator to use the forensic lighting device portably and independent from the public power supply. The present disclosure relates to a suitable crime scene light device with a mercury ultra high pressure lamp as the light source, a light guide and terminals for operating the lamp selectively with an accumulator or the public power supply system. A suitable carrier bag, a so-called lorgnette with various longpass filters and a cross-section converter for visualizing shoeprints form useful accessories of the forensic lighting device.

Abstract: A light exposure system is used to expose an alignment layer formed of anistropically absorbing molecules so as to allow alignment of subsequently applied liquid crystal polymer (LCP) molecules. The light incident on the alignment layer is polarized. When a single polarizer is used, the azimuthal polarization direction varies across the substrate carrying the alignment layer. Various approaches to reducing the azimuthal polarization variation may be adopted, including the introduction of various types of polarization rotation reduction element and in selecting an appropriate tilt angle for the light source. Furthermore, a reflective structure may be inserted between the light source and the alignment layer. Use of the reflective structure increases the total amount of light incident on the alignment layer.

  • Patent number: 7329028
Abstract: A uniform light generating system for adjusting output brightness, including a light-generating unit, a light-transmitting unit, a hollow spheroid unit, a light-sensing unit, and a control unit. The light-generating unit has a light-emitting element for generating light beams and a brightness control element for adjusting the luminous flux of the light beam. The hollow spheroid unit is communicated with the other side of the light-transmitting unit for guiding the light beams into an external casing of the hollow spheroid unit. The light-sensing unit detects electric power values in the external casing. The control unit is electrically connected to the light-generating unit and the light-sensing unit. Thereby a user can obtain a real illumination value via adjusting the illumination values of the light beams that are projected from the hollow spheroid unit.

Abstract: An illuminating device is made from a transparent hollow envelope that encloses a filler gas. The envelope has inner and outer surfaces. The illuminating device has a coating of a fluorescent material deposited on the inner surface of the transparent envelope where the fluorescent material emits light having a visible component and an ultraviolet component; and a titanium dioxide film having first and second opposing surfaces where the first surface of the titanium dioxide film is formed on the outer surface of the transparent envelope. A light transmittance of the titanium dioxide film is at least 50% for light having a wavelength of 550 nm, and the light transmitted from the fluorescent material through the transparent envelope and the first surface of the titanium dioxide film to the second surface thereof causes photocatalytic activity to be generated on the second surface of the titanium dioxide film.
