Abstract: A light source system for a stereoscopic projection apparatus is provided. The light source system has a light source module, a first lens unit, a light splitting element, a color wheel module and a light integration element. The light source module provides a light beam, which is transferred by the first lens unit to the light splitting element. Then, the light beam is split by the light splitting element into a first light beam with a first bandwidth and a second light beam with a second bandwidth. The first and the second light beams are then received and transformed by the color wheel into a third light beam and a fourth light beam which are then transmitted to the light integration element. With the above arrangement, the light source system can be applied on a projection apparatus to provide a stereoscopic image.

  • Patent number: 8740406
Abstract: A light source includes two excitation light sources generating two respective excitation lights, a filter, and a wavelength conversion material. The second excitation light has a peak wavelength shorter than that of the first excitation light. The transmittance curves of the filter are dependent on the input angle. The first and second excitation lights are inputted to the filter at angles smaller than a first threshold angle, and angles between the first and a third threshold angle, respectively. Both excitation lights pass through the filter to excite the wavelength conversion material, which generates a converted light but reflects some of the excitation lights. Part of the reflected first excitation light reaches the filter at input angles greater than a second threshold angle and is reflected by the filter back to the wavelength conversion material for recycling. The third and second threshold angles are greater than the first threshold angle.

Abstract: An optical system and method for illuminating an object under investigation with filtered light is disclosed. In one embodiment, the system comprises a filter wheel having a plurality of variable bandpass filters. The filter wheel is rotatable about two axis, whereby rotation about the first axis brings a selected filter in line with a collimated beam of white light and rotation about the second axis adjusts the angle of the filter relative to the light beam in order to adjust the bandpass frequencies. A second beam of white light, which may be from a second light source, can also be reflected off of the face of the filter in a manner that illuminates the object with substantially white light. In one embodiment, the object may be alternately or simultaneously illuminated with filtered light or with reflected white light. The filter can be used as a bandstop or band rejection filter to illuminate the object with white light that is missing a narrow frequency band.
