Abstract: A vehicle headlamp is provided with: a projection lens; a light source; a reflector for reflecting light, which has been directly emitted by the light source, to a front side along an optical axis; and a shade arranged between the projection lens and the reflector, for shading a part of light reflected by the reflector 24. A bright and dark boundary forming portion capable of forming a cutoff line of a light distribution pattern is formed at an upper edge portion of the shade. In a neighborhood of the bright and dark boundary forming portion on a front face of the shade, a low reflecting region is provided. A reflectance of the low reflecting region is lower than a reflectance of a high reflecting region. A reflectance of the high reflecting region is higher than a reflectance of a rear face of the shade.

  • Patent number: 7201499
Abstract: A frontal surface of a light transmitting member disposed in such a manner as to cover a light emitting element from a front side thereof is made up of an ellipsoid of revolution which adopts an optical axis as a center axis thereof and a point on the optical axis which is near the light emitting element as a rear primary focal point thereof. A central region of the light transmitting member positioned near the optical axis is made as a light emitting surface which causes light from the light emitting element to be emitted forward. A circumferential edge region of the light transmitting member positioned outer circumferentially of the central region is made as a light reflecting surface which internally reflects light from the light emitting element so as to be directed towards a secondary focal point of the ellipsoid of revolution.

  • Patent number: 7153002
Abstract: A lens for light emitting diode (LED) light sources which allows light emitted from an LED light source to exit the lens in a direction perpendicular to a vertical center axis of the lens. The lens of the present invention includes an inner space which is defined in a lens body having both a bottom surface and an upper reflective surface, so that light passing through the inner space is partially reflected by total internal reflection on a portion (selective transmission surface, inner reflective surface, inside reflective surface) of a boundary surface between the inner space and the lens body. Thus, light emitted from an LED light source efficiently exits the lens through a side surface. Accordingly, the lens of the present invention is used in efficient display and illumination optical systems.

  • Patent number: 6910791
Abstract: A headlight having an ellipse group reflecting surface as a main reflecting surface and a projection lens further includes a second reflecting surface, a third reflecting surface, and a ring-shaped lens. Direct light from a light source reaching to a space between the main reflecting surface and the projection lens is reflected by the second reflecting surface backward. The reflected light from the second reflecting surface is further reflected by the third reflecting surface, and then is adjusted with the ring-shaped lens. Light directly emitted from the light source and being ineffective in the conventional headlight can be collected using the second and third reflecting surfaces, and forwarded in an illumination direction by passing through the ring-shape lens such that the shape of the light is controlled to provide an appropriate shape, thereby contributing to the formation of light distribution characteristics and increase in the light intensity.
