  • Patent number: 7244056
Abstract: A vehicle lamp can include a light source and a reflector whose first focal position lies in the vicinity of the light source, the reflector preferably includes a concave spheroidal surface that reflects light from the light source frontward. A projection lens can be disposed so that its focal point lies in the vicinity of a second focal position of the reflector in front of the light source, the projection lens including an aspherical convex lens that focuses light from the reflector and that irradiates the light frontward. A shutter can be disposed in the vicinity of the second focal position of the reflector, the shutter forming a cutoff for low light distribution. The shutter can be thickly formed so that it is positioned in front of the focal position of the projection lens, and the shutter can be slanted at an end edge that forms the cutoff so that the shutter becomes lower towards the projection lens in relation to the optical axis direction.

Abstract: A lamp unit has a semiconductor light emitting chip 24a and a translucent member 22 which subjects light emitted from the chip 24a to be reflected by front surface 22a and then by rear surface 22b to exit from the front surface 22a. Chip 24a is arranged to face forward such that a lower end thereof crosses an optical axis Ax of the lamp unit 20 at right angles. The front surface 22a of the translucent member 22 is formed from a plane orthogonal to the optical axis Ax, and an optical axis region 22a1 of the front surface is subjected to mirror surface treatment. A rear surface 22b of the translucent member 22 is formed using a paraboloid of rotation whose focal point is a position having symmetry with an illumination center of the chip 24a. The rear surface is subjected to mirror surface treatment.

Abstract: A light assembly includes a housing which defines a longitudinal axis. A hollow holding ring and a reflector are fixed within the housing and spaced apart along the axis. A hollow positioning sleeve is disposed at a rear end of the reflector and is arranged on the axis at a distance forwardly from the holding ring. A tube extends along the axis and includes front and rear portions. The front portion is mounted in the positioning sleeve and includes a bulb receptacle for positioning a bulb within the reflector. The rear portion includes an electrical connection portion disposed in the holding ring. The tube is inserted axially through the holding ring and the positioning sleeve and into the reflector and then is rotated about the axis in order to cause the tube to become locked against axial movement relative to the reflector.

Abstract: A lamp has LED sources that are placed about a lamp axis in an axial arrangement. The lamp includes a post with post facets where the LED sources are mounted. The lamp includes a segmented reflector for guiding light from the LED sources. The segmented reflector includes reflective segments each of which is illuminated primarily by light from one of the post facets (e.g., one of the LED sources on the post facet). The LED sources may be made up of one or more LED dies. The LED dies may include optic-on-chip lenses to direct the light from each post facet to a corresponding reflective segment. The LED dies may be of different sizes and colors chosen to generate a particular far-field pattern.

Abstract: A vehicular lamp including a resin-made plain outer cover that covers the lamp body. The plain outer cover has an interior lens step (cylindrical step) formed in a region that faces a gap between an extension element (or a reflector) installed in the lamp body and the inner surface of a leg portion of the outer cover. The lens step optically reduces the gap between the leg portion and the extension element (or a reflector) and thus optically magnifies the leg portion of the outer cover, allowing the lamp to have a sense of stateliness and a sense of luxury seen in the lamp that uses a glass-made outer cover.

Abstract: The subject invention relates to automotive head lamp assemblies with a low beam unit and a high beam unit. In an exemplary embodiment, the low beam unit and high beam unit is connected to one another by an adjuster bracket. The adjuster bracket allows for two ball studs to interact with the adjuster bracket. The first ball stud interacts with the adjuster bracket and high beam reflector so that the high beam reflector's vertical axis can be adjusted to make it parallel to the vertical axis of the low beam reflector. The second ball stud interacts with the adjuster bracket and low beam reflector so that both the low beam reflector and high beam reflector are adjusted vertically at the same time and in the same direction.

  • Patent number: 7021804
Abstract: A lamp assembly with a multi-stage reflector is described for use with automobile lamps. A singular shield is positioned about a light source inside a housing. A first reflective surface and a second reflective surface are formed on the housing. The singular shield is moveable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the moveable shield blocks light from striking the second reflective surface, and a main beam is projected from the lamp assembly. In the second position, the moveable shield allows light to strike both the first and second reflective surfaces, and a second beam is projected. Thus, the singular shield may be moved to switch between the main beam and the second beam, creating the ability to alter the functionality of the lamp assembly. More than two reflective surfaces and moveable positions may be used, to create a multitude of possible beam patterns.

  • Patent number: 7019334
Abstract: Whereas incandescent light bulbs and other similar light sources known in the prior art emit light in all directions, LED lamps emit light in a single direction only, and this is manifested in the problem of being unable to achieve light distribution characteristics satisfied by conventional headlamp designs. The present invention realizes an LED lamp for a light source of a headlamp disposing an LED chip 2 in the vicinity of the focus of a projection means and providing a shielding member 7 covering a portion of the LED chip 2 in a formation allowing a light distribution characteristic suitable for a vehicle front-illumination light to be obtained when light from the LED chip 2 is magnified and projected in an illumination direction by a projection lens 10 or the like constituting the projection means; accordingly, accurate light distribution characteristics can be obtained in a simple manner by projecting in the illumination direction using the projection lens 10.
