Light Modifier Patents (Class 362/509)
  • Patent number: 6709139
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to prevent dazzlement from being caused by beams of light directly emitted from a light source, without requiring any bulky component member. A vehicular headlamp 1 comprises a light source 7, a reflector 6, a cut-line forming shade 9 for forming a cut line, and a condenser lens 8. The cut-line forming shade cuts off some beams of light emitted from the light source and reflected by the reflector and forms shaped beams of light. The condenser lens projects the shaped beams of light forwards and radiates them according to a light distribution pattern. An opening is formed between the condenser lens and the reflector. A dazzling-light cutting shade 15 for cutting off beams of light emitted toward a region above the light distribution pattern is disposed between the light source and the opening.

Abstract: The object of the invention is a dual-function lamp device for a motor vehicle, comprising in particular a light source emitting light signals towards an output surface of the lamp in order to produce a light beam, and a filtering means which can move between a passive position and an active position in which it allows passage of only some of the light signals corresponding to non-visible wavelengths, the filtering means being used in association with an intermediate lens for modifying the dispersion of the light beam. The driver thus has a direct illumination and an indirect illumination for obtaining, from a single lamp, two different fields of vision.

Abstract: There is disclosed an electroluminescent (EL) device accomplishing improved visual performance. The device has a transparent substrate on which a transparent electrode layer is formed. The transparent electrode layer is partitioned into segments to represent desired shapes in terms of pixels by selective emission of the segments. Parts of the transparent electrode layer are brought out toward the outer periphery of the transparent substrate to form terminals. Display electrodes, the terminals, and conductive interconnects that are different in function are formed from the transparent electrode layer. The conductive interconnects connect the display electrodes with the terminals. Other terminals for connection with a back electrode are also formed from the transparent electrode layer. An auxiliary electrode layer having a resistivity smaller than that of the transparent electrode layer is formed on the transparent electrode layer.

  • Patent number: 6592239
Abstract: A vehicular lamp with improved appearance quality (i.e., having no burrs or the like) around the joint interface between a front lens and a lamp body, and sufficient joint strength even in regions where the joint interface shape changes three dimensionally. A sealing leg, formed on the front lens, has a tip face which abuts and is joined by laser welding to a receiving face formed on the lamp body. To carry out the welding operation, a laser beam is irradiated from the front side of the front lens to the receiving face through the sealing leg. Therefore, even if the laser beam enters diagonally, it can be reflected internally by both side faces of the sealing leg so that the beam reliably reaches the tip face. As a result, the energy of the laser beam is not reduced, making it possible to efficiently heat the lamp body.

Abstract: A lamp lens, and method for producing such lens, is provided which includes a clear plastic substrate. A soft, flexible layer is sandwiched between the substrate and an outer abrasion resistant layer. The material which forms each layer is intermixed at the interface of the layers. In this manner, a multilayer film may be provided upon the substrate wherein a hard outer layer stays on top of a softer layer adhered to the plastic substrate. A vehicle headlamp which includes such a lamp lens is also provided.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method of perforating the cover layer or soft skin of an automotive trim panel such as an instrument panel with a laser to allow light to bleed through the perforations. The light source would preferably be a low heat generating or “cool” type source such as an LED. The light source would be attached to a suitable substrate or incorporated in to a flexible printed circuit and coupled to the vehicle electrical system. This method would enable full switch integration to a trim panel and provide a seamless styling opportunity regarding the electrical controls. This method would help reduce cost and weight, improve quality, and promote new seamless styling theme.

Abstract: A designing method of a reflective surface RS according to the present invention has a step of generating an XY curve Q on an XY plane including the X-axis (optical axis) and Y-axis; a step of, at each of a plurality of base points P existing on the XY curve Q, generating an XZ curve R on a plane (UZ plane) including the base point P and being parallel to a reflection direction of light at the base point P and normal to the XY plane; and a step of generating a surface shape of the reflective surface RS, based on the XY curve Q and the plurality of XZ curves R. This substantiates a method of designing a reflective surface of a reflector in a vehicle lamp with improved controllability of a light distribution pattern and with improved efficiency of a designing work.

A light ray stop (30 having a pot-shaped region (32) is associated with the light source (14) and arranged to block off a part of the light from the light source (14) so that it does not reach the reflector (10). • Patent number: 6382821
Abstract: A flexible and ornamental vehicle light cover comprises a flexible piece of sheet material with a pressure sensitive adhesive layer applied to a back surface for bonding the sheet to a vehicle lens that surrounds one of the lamps e.g., an electric tail lamp of the vehicle. The sheet material has an outline depicting a design or symbol that can be seen by an observer whether the light is on or off. The sheet has the multiplicity of punched openings in it to enable light from the vehicle lamp to pass through the sheet for preventing an unacceptable reduction in the luminous flux provided by the vehicle lamp. The sheet is thus able to be applied to the vehicle lens over the lamp by pressing the sheet onto the lens so as to intercept and block no more than the predetermined fraction of the luminous flux impinging thereon while serving to decorate the vehicle.

The bulb shield includes a cup portion and a portion which extends from the cup portion and is configured for mounting to a reflector of the automotive headlamp assembly or to another, proximate structure. When the bulb shield is mounted, the cup portion is preferably generally horizontally aligned with a headlamp bulb in the automotive headlamp assembly, thereby eliminating a “hot spot” which would otherwise be viewable when looking into the headlamp beam. Preferably, at least a portion of the cup portion of the bulb shield is electro-formed. Such a bulb shield is relatively inexpensive and easy to make, yet can withstand the high temperatures which are typically experienced in an automotive headlamp assembly. Additionally, such a bulb shield can be inexpensively provided, yet meet precision requirements.
