Projection-type Headlamp Patents (Class 362/538)
  • Patent number: 7178959
Abstract: An illumination arrangement for a vehicle headlight is formed of a plurality of contiguous elementary cells, each including a light source, defined by an emission surface having a horizontal dimension and a vertical dimension and capable of emitting a luminous flux, and an optical system capable of conveying the luminous flux at a predetermined solid angle about a predetermined direction. The elementary cells are disposed so as to generate overall a predetermined distribution of light emission. The horizontal dimension and the vertical dimension of the emission surface of the light sources are different. The vertical dimension is less than 1 mm and the ratio between the horizontal dimension and the vertical dimension is greater than 2.

  • Patent number: 7168836
Abstract: A cylindrical lens extends generally in a width direction of a vehicle, and light from three light-emitting elements, rearward of a rear focal line of the cylindrical lens, is reflected forward by three reflectors. A reflecting surface of each reflector has an elliptical vertical cross-sectional shape in a vertical plane perpendicular to the rear focal line. The first focus is at a center of light-emission of the corresponding light-emitting element, while the second focus lies at a point in the vicinity of the rear focal line. The rate of utilization of light flux from each light-emitting element is enhanced, and a luminous distribution patter having a relatively small width in an upward-downward orientation is formed. When the cylindrical lens and each reflector are deviated from their respective proper positions in the direction of the width of the vehicle, the luminous distribution patter of a constant shape can be formed.

Abstract: As the annular translucent member, an annular lens formed from a peripheral edge portion of a convex-meniscus lens is disposed between a projection lens and a reflector along an outer peripheral edge of the projection lens. Direct light from a light source toward a space beyond the outer periphery of the projection lens is caused to illuminate forward of the lamp by the annular lens, thereby effectively utilizing light source luminous flux. In relation to the above, a shape of a back surface of the annular lens is formed into a spherical surface having its center at a luminescence center of the light source. Accordingly, direct light from the light source can travel straight without being deflected by a back surface of the annular lens, whereby a light deflection angle on a front surface of the annular lens can be calculated easily and with good accuracy.

Abstract: The projector type vehicle headlamp includes a light source, a reflector including a reflection surface for reflecting light from the light source, and a condenser lens that irradiates reflected light from the reflection surface forwards. The reflection surface includes a plurality of segments, and is formed of a free-form surface obtained by deforming a reference ellipsoid of revolution. The light source is arranged between a first focal point of the reference ellipsoid of revolution and the condenser lens, closer to the first focal point than to the condenser lens. Segments forming one end and other end portions of a light distribution pattern includes a wide area-illuminating reflection surface that makes the one end and the other end portions substantially a rectangular shape, where the other end portion is opposite to the one end portion with respect to a center of the light distribution pattern.

Abstract: A headlamp and method for illumination of the headlamp in which during low beam irradiation, a light distribution pattern P(L) for a low beam is formed by turning on a lighting unit for a low beam and during high beam irradiation, a lighting unit for a high beam is also turned on at the same time to superpose an additional light distribution pattern P(H1) for a high beam thereon, thereby forming a light distribution pattern P(H) for a high beam. During the high beam irradiation, furthermore, a tilting unit of the headlamp is tilted upward by approximately 1.5 degrees and a hot zone HZ(L) of the light distribution pattern P(L) for a low beam is moved to a long distance region in a road placed ahead of a vehicle, thereby enhancing a distance visibility.

  • Patent number: 6746143
Abstract: A vehicular headlamp in which the radial beam of radiated light is continuously adjustable between a first position and a second position. Semi-cylindrical lamp shields surround a lamp. The lamp shields are attached to gears which operate to rotate the lamp shields radially about the lamp. An actuator is attached to the gears, such the actuator can turn the gears in order to rotate the lamp shields. The actuator is controlled by a circuit which prevents over-rotation. The actuator may move in very small increments, such that the lamp shields may be continuously adjustable between the first position and the second position. The lamp shields are thus continuously adjustable to vary the projected radial beam of the headlamp.

Abstract: A system for adjusting the direction of a light beam from a headlamp assembly comprises a condenser lens which is movable along an arcuate path. As a vehicle turns a corner, the system moves the condenser lens along the arcuate path, so as to direct the light beam in the direction that the vehicle is moving. Because the condenser lens follows an arcuate path, the light beam is not distorted, allowing for greater angular displacement of the light beam.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to prevent dazzlement from being caused by beams of light directly emitted from a light source, without requiring any bulky component member. A vehicular headlamp 1 comprises a light source 7, a reflector 6, a cut-line forming shade 9 for forming a cut line, and a condenser lens 8. The cut-line forming shade cuts off some beams of light emitted from the light source and reflected by the reflector and forms shaped beams of light. The condenser lens projects the shaped beams of light forwards and radiates them according to a light distribution pattern. An opening is formed between the condenser lens and the reflector. A dazzling-light cutting shade 15 for cutting off beams of light emitted toward a region above the light distribution pattern is disposed between the light source and the opening.
