Plural Light Sources Patents (Class 362/543)
  • Patent number: 7204611
Abstract: A lamp for night sight applications includes a bulb that transmits both visible and infrared light. The lamp also includes a coating that reflects middle infrared radiation and is transparent to near infrared radiation to increase output efficiency in the near infrared spectral range. There may be a second coating that blocks visible light on part of the lamp—and the second coating may be on an external bulb, while the first coating is on an internal bulb. The lamp is preferably used as a vehicle headlamp with a reflector that reflects near infrared radiation and is transparent to visible light. The second coating and reflector may be on the lower part of the lamp.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a partition is incorporated into the case of the projector so as to separate the optical system and the circuitry system. A circuitry fan is used to cool the circuitry system. The optical system is cooled by a suction fan. The cooling air is drawn in by the suction fan and directed to a lamp case through an air duct so as to cool a burner within the lamp case. The heat air is then directed to manifold duct. A first outlet of the manifold duct is directed through an exhausting duct to an exhausting fan. The other outlet of the manifold duct is directed to the circuitry fan. As a result, the heated air is discharged out of the case by those two cooling fans so as to evenly discharge the heated airflow from the lamp case, reducing the heat load of the fan and prolongs the lifespan of the fan.

Abstract: A proportional brake light system having an LED display carried on a motor vehicle and capable of instantaneously warning motorists following from behind whether and how quickly the vehicle is likely to stop in response to an operator generated foot pressure being applied to the brake pedal shoe. The brake pedal shoe of the vehicle has a hollow interior, and an optical signal is transmitted along an optical transmission path extending therethrough. As the pressure applied by the operator to the brake pedal shoe is increased, more of the optical signal being transmitted along the optical transmission path is interrupted. A multi-stage comparator is responsive to an interruption of the optical signal so as to cause a corresponding number of LEDs from the display to be illuminated.

Abstract: The subject invention comprises a thin lamp assembly having a lens and a lamp housing heat staked and sealed together. The subject invention further comprises the method of assembling the thin lamp assembly. In one embodiment, the lens has a plurality of plastic stakes and a lens rib located around the lens' periphery. Further, the lamp housing has a plurality of receiving holes around its outer periphery and a lamp housing rib around its inner periphery. In this embodiment, a sealant is placed on the lamp housing and the plastic stakes are inserted into the receiving holes so that the lens rib and lamp housing rib form a seal channel to contain the sealant and the lens is flush with the lamp housing. A heat source is then used to heat treat the plastic stakes to form a plurality of mushroom caps that act to attach the lens to the lamp housing.

Abstract: An emergency taillight for a vehicle includes a reflective housing with a transparent cover and a light source resiliently suspended in the focal center thereof. In the first embodiment, the light source is energized by a periodic source of electrical power to provide the impression of flickering light both during the movement of a vehicle as well as when it is standing still and no vibration is transmitted to the resilient suspension means of the light source. According to the second and third embodiments, electromechanical means are provided to cause the oscillating motion of the light source even when the vehicle is not itself in motion. The invention provides for a better attraction of the observer to the emergency light in poor visibility conditions regardless of the presence of vehicle motion. One or more light bulbs, LEDs, or laser light diodes may be used as a source of light for the emergency light of the invention.
