Film Or Coating Patents (Class 362/624)
  • Patent number: 8016475
Abstract: A selectively light-reflecting sheet (30) includes a prismatic film (1) with parallel prisms (10) on its face, a low-index film (3) on the prisms and a layer (5) on the low-index film, this layer having a substantially flat surface. This results in a low effective index, which means that light incident at steeper angles on the prismatic film (1) will pass through it. This “leaky” effect can be used in conjunction with a reflector sheet (20) in a tapered-waveguide arrangement to construct a lightweight backlight.

Abstract: A reflection type display apparatus has a front light unit (FLU), and includes a display panel, a light guide disposed on the upper surface of the display panel, a light transparent adhesive layer attaching the lower surface of the light guide to the upper surface of the display panel, and a light source located at a side of the light guide for emitting light to the light guide. A protection window covers the light guide and the light source. By covering the display panel installed on the lower surface of the protection window and the light guide with a moisture-proof and light-shield film, moisture-proofing and light-shielding effects are obtained simultaneously. Further, by forming a light absorption layer at the edge of the light guide adjacent to the light source, generation of a hot spot at the edge of the light guide may be inhibited.

Abstract: To prevent, in a backlight where light emitting diodes are arranged on a side surface of a light guide plate, light leakage from a reflection sheet and reduce non-uniformity of emission light from the backlight. In a liquid crystal display device that includes a backlight that irradiates a liquid crystal panel with light, LEDs are disposed as light emitting elements on a light guide plate that is disposed in the backlight, a reflection sheet that comprises a multilayer film is disposed on a bottom surface of the light guide plate, projections are disposed by sandblasting on the bottom surface of the light guide plate in the vicinity of the LEDs, and tight adhesion between the reflection sheet and the light guide plate is prevented. In the vicinity of the LEDs, in order to counter light non-uniformity, reflecting grooves are not disposed and it is a mirror surface, but tight adhesion can be prevented by disposing the projections.
