    Abstract: A removable spindle for a blender that is compact enough for home use, rugged enough to blend frozen beverages, simple to use and safe. The spindle preferably includes a quick release coupling member, a rotating shaft, cup cover and rotating cutting blades. To facilitate cleaning of the spindle assembly, the quick release coupling member allows the spindle to be quickly detached from the blender. The rotating shaft is preferably housed in an outer sleeve for structural/alignment purposes and to keep the shaft free from food/beverage particles. Slidably attached to the outside of the outer sleeve and trapped between the quick release coupling member and the rotating cutting blades is a moveable cup cover.

The tool shaft is structured to be non-rotatably coupled to the drive shaft when the tool assembly is connected to the motor assembly. The tool shank has a mounting groove, wherein the tool assembly is connected to the motor assembly by the approximately U-shaped expansion clamp engaging the mounting groove of the tool shank. To release the tool shank, the expansion clamp is displaced by a push button in the direction of an opposite push button having expansion surfaces on which the legs of the expansion clamp ride up, thus disengaging the expansion clamp from the mounting groove. To urge the tool shank away from the motor assembly, the push buttons have beveled surfaces.

In the portable case, is accommodated one half of a recharging unit consisting of a secondary winding of a transformer and a coil which is encircled thereby. The primary winding and associated core is accommodated in the base. When the portable casing is accommodated in the base, the cores are juxtaposed in coaxial alignment, whereby an alternating current source coupled to the primary winding charges the rechargeable battery arrangement.
