  • Patent number: 11123896
Abstract: A method for mixing concrete constituents that generally has a step of rotating a drum having a probe mounted inside the drum and immerged in the concrete constituents being mixed inside the drum; a step of receiving a first set of pressure values indicative of pressure exerted on the probe by the concrete constituents, the pressure values of the first set being taken at different circumferential positions of the probe during a single rotation of the drum; a step of determining a deviation of the pressure values of the first set from reference data; and a step of reducing a rotation speed of the drum upon determining that the deviation is lower than a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 7229204
Abstract: A portable mixing apparatus that employs disposable 5-gallon plastic buckets as containers for mixing mortar, grout, plaster and other materials. First and second motor-driven rollers support the buckets at a downwardly sloped angle. A separate mixing basket is placed within the buckets, and includes a plurality of blades that pass through the material as the bucket is rotated by the rollers. The leading roller is positioned lower than the trailing roller so as to engage the flexible wall of the bucket in an area where it is subject to outward pressure from the material during rotation. The rollers are provided with ribbed, non-slip covers having channels that accommodate water and debris on the exteriors of the buckets. The mixing basket is formed of a plurality of coaxial, longitudinally-spaced rings joined at their edges by longitudinal rods.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for mixing viscous material, includes placing ingredients of the viscous material within a vessel. An air tight seal is created about the vessel. A vacuum is pulled on the vessel, and the ingredients are mixed within the vessel to form the viscous material while under vacuum. The vacuum is sufficient to reduce the amount of total air content in viscous material to between 0.9% and 0.1% by volume prior to an air entraining agent being added to the viscous material. Once air entraining agent is added, further mixing of the ingredients forms entrained air content in the final viscous material, while the amount of entrapped air in the final viscous material remains reduced.

  • Patent number: 4585355
Abstract: The invention relates to a concrete mixer truck having a rotatably driven mixer drum, particularly a drum provided with interior mixing elements, and a hydraulic system as a drive source for the mixing process. It is intended to enhance the effect of the mixing process by transmitting vibration energy to the mixture materials. To this effect, a vibration generator is included in the hydraulic system in such a manner that pressure pulses generated in the flow of the hydraulic fluid are superimposed on the mixing movement in the form of vibrations. This superposition effect may be achieved with respect to the rotation of the drum and/or with respect to the movements of a separate mixing tool.

  • Patent number: 4522499
Abstract: The invention relates to a concrete mixer, particularly to a truck-mounted concrete mixer, comprising a drum and an actuatable additional mixer tool projecting into the drum from the bottom thereof substantially in the direction of the drum axis. A rotatably driven mixer tool of this type requires the employ of additional gearing, and a sealing assembly for the passage of its shaft through the drum bottom is very complicated and subjected to wear. In accordance with the invention, these disadvantages are avoided by the provision that the mixer tool is adapted to be moved in the axial direction. This permits a cylinder-piston unit to be employed as the drive source for the mixer tool. No gearing is required, and sealing as well as maintenance are simplified.

  • Patent number: 4357109
Abstract: A mixer for concrete or other materials has a bowl rotatably mounted on a frame provided with handles and with support means, which, by moving the frame to one position, will hold the bowl in a charging and mixing position supported clear of the ground, its axis inclining up to its mouth. The frame can also be moved to bring the bowl to a travelling position to be propelled along the ground, its axis inclining upwardly towards the mouth. To discharge the mixer, the frame is movable to a further position, the bowl supported by the support means, above the ground with its axis inclining downwardly towards its mouth. The bowl may be rotated, when in mixing or travelling or discharging position, by a motor on the frame and operatively connected to the bowl, the mixer being steered by the handles when propelled with the bowl in travelling position.

  • Patent number: 4277180
Abstract: A bituminous mixture of aggregate and a bituminous binder, especially for road construction or repair is prepared by mixing a batch of still moist aggregate with the bituminous binder in a pressurized mixing container. The gauge pressure in the mixing container is maintained at or just above the saturation pressure of the water adhering to the surfaces of the aggregate, at the desired mixing temperature. Upon completion of the mixing the pressure in the mixing container is reduced to below one bar whereby moisture is removed from the mixture. The present mixing apparatus is rotatable about a hollow axle through which a supply of heating gas is maintained during the mixing. During the removal of the mixture from the mixing container the heating gas may be circulated through the next batch of aggregate being prepared.

  • Patent number: 4148588
Abstract: A forced kneading concrete mixer including a or a plurality of mixing members such as paddles or blades disposed at fixed positions within a rotating pan or cylindrical vessel. The mixing member is carried by a support which is movably mounted on a stationary member and which is subjected to a vertical oscillation having an amplitude of from 2 to 5 mm and a frequency of 3500 to 6000 cycles per minute. A fluid charge comprising ingredients to form concrete is mulled and oscillated by the cooperation of the vessel and the mixing member. When subjected to the oscillation, the individual particles of cement contained in the oscillating fluid charge are dispersed and acquire moisture on their surface. The load on the mixing member is reduced inasmuch as the consistency is increased due to a temporary tendency of the charge to fluidize.
