Compartmental-type Chamber Patents (Class 366/58)
  • Patent number: 6672751
Abstract: A counter-flow aggregate dryer for an asphalt plant is equipped with a secondary feeder for introducing RAP or virgin materials intermediate the ends of the combustion zone of the dryer. Nonveiling flights in the combustion zone shield material carried through the combustion zone from direct radiant heat and veiling flights in the drying zone create a curtain of falling aggregates heated by a hot gas stream flowing in a countercurrent direction from a primary burner. A secondary burner elevates the temperature of the exhaust gas above its dew point temperature before delivery to the baghouse.

  • Patent number: 6641993
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for mixing a liquid within a disposable aspirating probe tip so that most of the liquid is forced to move past a transition zone between two different inside diameters to cause rotational mixing. The apparatus and method can be used to provide agglutination of blood, which in turn can be used for blood typing. The probe tip can comprise a single integral piece, or two separate portions. The transition zone can comprise a sharp demarcation between inside diameters, or a smooth one.

  • Patent number: 5087127
Abstract: A centrifugal bowl is intermittently cleaned of concentrate by a scoop which projects into the bowl and is indexed in a direction axially of the bowl and moved radially of the bowl to enter each in turn of a plurality of annular grooves formed on the bowl surface. The fluidized material in the groove enters the scoop and is extracted from the scoop by suction.

  • Patent number: 4988207
Abstract: The drying/coating drum comprising a burner (20) whose body (19) penetrates via the discharge end (3) of the drum into a zone which is distant from this end. The gases and the solid materials circulate countercurrent-wise in the drum. The body (19) of the burner (20), fixed relative to the drum (1), is disposed inside an outer peripheral sleeve (22) which is free in rotation about the body (19) of the burner (20). The outer sleeve (22) is connected to the casing (1) of the drum. The end of the outer sleeve (22) corresponding to the end (19a) of the burner from which the flame (14) develops carries a plurality of radially directed blades (25, 26) forming a turbine for sucking gas into the mixing zone (30) and a screen against radiation from the flame (14) of the burner (20) during rotation of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4597026
Abstract: In an X-ray generator system having a pulse-width-modulated transistor inverter with associated flywheel diodes, method and apparatus is provided to sense when a diode associated with a non-pulse-width-modulated transistor is conducting and for inhibiting the turning on of that transistor during such period, to thereby avoid the transition from reverse conduction to direct conduction in an uncontrolled manner.

  • Patent number: 4533054
Abstract: Solid waste incinerator fuel is preclassified by passing it through a hollow rotating cylindrical drum which has two sets of extensions from the wall going lengthwise along the length of the drum, the first set toward one end and the second toward the other, the second set being shorter or smaller-sized than the first and the first preferably having rodlike projections which may have at least partly knifelike or bladelike ends or edges at the axial or inner ends thereof. The first set of extensions homogenizes the incoming waste by lifting, dropping, churning, and ripping it as well as fluffing it. The second set of extensions, preferably angled, lifts smaller sized heavier, non-combustible particles to the upper part of the drum from which they are removed at the exit end. The lighter material, mostly combustibles such as paper, textiles and wood, for example, is discharged toward the bottom of the exit end of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4067552
Abstract: Recycled asphalt-aggregate compositions prepared by adding a suitable amount of make-up asphalt to pieces of the used composition and heating the mixture in a rotating cylindrical drum by tumbling the composition over heated pipes as it is gradually directed towards an output end of the drum, the improvement comprising adding an amount of petroleum hydrocarbon to achieve a laid down asphalt penetration of between 25 and 300 dmn at 77.degree. F. A further embodiment of the improved process comprises venting a mixture of hydrocarbon gases and moisture vaporized from the hot composition mixture at the output end of the apparatus, condensing the moisture and removing it and returning the hydrocarbon gases to a combustion chamber for providing heat to the apparatus tubes.
