Abstract: A temperature compensating method and apparatus uses a front sensor to measure a first power of a light-emitting unit emitting a light, and a thermal sensor to measure the temperature of the light-emitting unit. The temperature is inputted into an I/O unit to figure out a second power from the equations of the temperature and power. Then, the first and second powers are inputted into a controller to adjust the power of the light-emitting unit, or the second powers are inputted into a write strategy to change an output clock to adjust the energy of the light without changing the power of the light-emitting unit. The optical disc device has the effect of the temperature compensation.

Abstract: Conventional signal write correction circuits involve a problem that when n-phase clock is selected, the waveform may be distorted in high speed operation if the last-phase clock is selected. Two delay selection circuits (16a, 16b) select the odd-numbered edges and the even-numbered edges of a multipulse signal used for write correction. To select the edges, each of the delay selection circuits (16a, 16b) uses two enable signals. The exclusive OR of the outputs of the two delay selection circuits (16a, 16b) is taken to generate the timing of the multipulse signal.

Abstract: A method of compensating for tilt and/or defocus and an apparatus therefor. The apparatus has a tilt and/or defocus detector detecting the tilt and/or defocus of an optical recording medium, and a recording compensator compensating a write pulse having a predetermined recording pattern using a predetermined system with respect to the detected tilt and/or defocus. The apparatus both adjusts write power with respect to the detected defocus, shifts the recording pattern with respect to the detected tilt, adjusts a power level and/or write time required for recording, and records a recording mark having a desired size (length and width). The apparatus is useful in compensating for tilt and/or defocus in a high-density optical system.

Abstract: Information to be recorded is recorded in a recording layer of a phase-change optical storage medium. The information to be recorded is modulated to generate modulated data. Desired mark-length data is generated based on the modulated data. Generated further based on the mark-length data is a recording pulse pattern of recording pulses rising from an erasing power and formed between a recording power larger than the erasing power and a bottom power smaller than the erasing power and of erasing pulses rising from the bottom power to the erasing power. A recording light beam is then irradiated onto the recording layer in accordance with the recording pulse pattern to record at least one recorded mark representing the information to be recorded. Used in recording is an optimum erasing power, as the erasing power, the optimum erasing power satisfying an expression (1): 1.000<(R1/R0)<1.030 . . .

Abstract: An optical recording medium allowing data to be recorded on, erased from, and reproduced from, and storing information about power levels of an erase pulse. The recorded erase pattern information may include information about power levels of first and last pulses of an erase pattern for erasing data. The first and last pulses of the erase pattern can be differently set depending on the differing kind of recording layer or layers of a disk or differing kinds of disks and recorded in a reproducible only area or rewritable area of the optical recording medium. Thus, by presetting the appropriate erase power levels, the time required for selecting an optimal erase power for the optical recording medium can be considerably reduced.
