    Abstract: A moving coil type pick up capsule having a body, cantilever having first and second ends, a stylus located at its first end and a coil located at its second end and, therebetween, a dampener having an opening therethrough. The cantilever passes through the dampener opening such that the stylus is on a first side of the dampener and the coil is on a second side of the dampener. First and second magnets or yokes are positioned within or proximate the capsule body and spaced from one another to create a gap, the dampener and coil being positioned within the gap such that the fulcrum is located between the stylus and coil and specifically at the dampener. A dampening fluid fills the gap to complete the assembly.

The great coercive force of the magnet is utilized for simplifying and reducing the costs of the mechanical structure in that the yoke plate is formed with two legs (26) which extend rearwardly, engage and are secured to two opposite sides of the magnet. The short-circuit of the magnet established by these legs has no noticeable impact on the induction in the air gap because of the high coercive force of the magnet.

A signal coil subassembly (26) is suspended within the field chamber (36) and affixed to a cantilever (24) having a stylus (22) on its opposite end such that vibrations of the stylus (22) are physically translated to the signal coil subassembly (26). Electrical signals generated by the currents induced in the windings (29 and 30) of the signal coil subassembly (26) by induction caused by vibration within the field chamber (36) are carried to signal output pins (18) for electronic processing. The primary usage for the phonocartridge assembly (10) is in high quality stereo phonographic equipment for playing phonograph records.

An assembly of a magnet and yokes is fixedly held in the cartridge case so as to generate two magnetic fields which are directed at a right angle relative to one another, one of them being located corresponding to one of the coils and the other one being located corresponding to the other coil. Preferably, an assembly including the cantilever, the coils and the damper rubber is fitted into a sleeve and the latter is inserted in the longitudinally extending hole in the cartridge case.

    Abstract: Moving coils of a phonograph pickup are made of a substance having magnetoresistance so that the electrical resistance of the coils are detected by means of bridge circuits. The amounts of resistance variation of the coils are used to produce a vertical component output signal and a horizontal component output signal which respectively indicate the vertical and horizontal displacements of the coils from its optimum operating point with respect to the magnetic field of the pickup. The vertical and horizontal component output signals are used to control vertical and horizontal control motors which correct the attitude of the tone arm so that the moving coils are accurately positioned at the optimum operating point irrespective of the warp and/or eccentricity of the phonograph disk.

    Abstract: An MC type phono cartridge which is simple in construction and easy to assemble and in which the stylus tip may be easily interchanged. The cartridge includes a pair of magnet units and an associated vibration unit. Included in the vibration unit is a cantilever with a stylus tip fixed to one end thereof with a disc-like member fixed to the other end of the cantilever. A string is attached at one end to the cantilever and at the other end to a string member holder which is in turn attached to the supporting member. A damper is disposed between a disc-like member and the supporting member. A pair of induction coils are disposed on the disc-like member. Each of the two magnet units includes a pair of adjacent magnets disposed with like magnetic poles confronting each other with the confronting portions of the magnets spaced from the induction coil at a preset gap. The vibration unit is detachable from the magnet unit for ease of stylus tip interchange.

    Abstract: In a moving coil type stereophonic pickup cartridge, an armature is provided having first, second, and third leg portions which extend in three directions. A source of magnetic flux is disposed with only one pole thereof adjacent to the first, second and third leg portions of the armature. The magnetic circuits thus constructed, having an open return path, generate signals by changes in the magnetic flux through coils wound on the second and third leg portions due to the movement of the armature relative to the magnetic source. Variations in the design of the three leg armature and the magnetic source are disclosed. Practical embodiments of the invention include disclosure of cartridge replacement features providing convenient electrical connection between moving coils and remainder of the sound reproduction system.

The notch is defined by edge parts or facets.

The housing carries a plurality of electrical terminal pins, which have their one end projecting externally from the rear end of the housing and which have their other end projecting through the bottom of the housing. The stylus assembly includes a knob member which supports a stylus subassembly having an armature which carries a pair of coils, and which also supports a plurality of electrical connectors which are adapted to be detachably coupled with the terminal pins. The ends of the coils are electrically connected with the connectors.

    Abstract: A moving coil type pickup cartridge comprises at least two movement-electromagnetism conversion systems functioning in push-pull mode, each system being arranged by a coil supported on a plate and inserted in an air gap between two opposing magnet blocks each constituted by side-to-side two magnets so as to provide opposite magnetic poles facing each other with the air gap intervening therebetween. A linear movement of the coil is allowed in the air gap in the directions of cutting the magnetic fluxes in the magnetic fields produced between the opposing magnet blocks. This arrangement provides a high density of magnetic fluxes and a high output voltage and improves the quality of signals reproduced. This effect is promoted further by yoke plates of a material of high magnetic permeability arranged to straddle the open magnet poles of the side-to-side magnets, thereby inhibiting leak of magnetic fluxes from these open poles.

    Abstract: At least one spiraled semi-circular shaped coil is printed on each surface of a wafer. The coil on a first surface of the wafer is arranged in such a manner that it is rotated 90 degrees with respect to the coil on a second surface thereof. In one embodiment, two such printed coils are symmetrically provided on each surface of the wafer, and the pattern of the printed coils on the first surface is arranged to be rotated 90 degrees with respect to the pattern of the printed coils on the second surface thereof. The spiraling directions of the coils on the same surface are inverse or opposite each other. The inner terminals of the coils on each surface are connected and an output is taken out from the outer terminals thereof, or vice versa. A printed coil is employed, for example, in a moving coil type pick-up cartridge.
