Information processing apparatus and operation control method of an information processing apparatus
Patent number: 8605565Abstract: According to one embodiment, an information processing apparatus includes an optical disc drive, a data processing module which executes data processing using the optical disc drive, and a power supply management module which manages supply of power to the optical disc drive. The data processing module interrogates the power supply management module about the optical disc drive at the time of activation, and waits until an operating system recognizes the optical disc drive when an instruction is received from the power supply management module in response to an interrogation. The instruction instructs to wait until the operating system recognizes the optical disc drive. The power supply management module shifts the optical disc drive to a power supply on state and returns the instruction to the data processing module, if the optical disc drive is in a power supply off state when the interrogation is received.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2011Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Tsukasa Nunami, Hideaki Andou -

Patent number: 4574372Abstract: A laser disk record player particularly adapted for mobile applications such as in portable players and automobile mounted players. The player is provided with locking means for preventing free movement of the laser carrying scanning assembly when the player is switched off, thereby to prevent excessive wear or accidental damage caused by random acceleration of the normally free arm. With the record player in the load position, the locking means engages the scanning assembly to prevent motion thereof. When a disk is inserted and the player is switched to the play position, means are provided for automatically freeing the locking means thereby to allow the control circuit of the laser player to take over positioning of the arm.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1984Date of Patent: March 4, 1986Assignee: Staar S.A.Inventor: Stephane M. Patent number: 4512010Abstract: A control system for a linear tracking arm in a record player. A signal representative of a tracking error angle of the arm is, after A/D conversion, supplied to a microprocessor for producing a control signal which controls an arm drive device so that the tracking error angle constantly remains zero. For invalidating an offset quantity possibly produced in the output of a tracking error angle detecting sensor due to changes in the characteristic thereof, a signal produced by the sensor when the arm is lifted in precedence to the playback operation is stored in a memory of the microprocessor. During the playback, the tracking error angle is detected with reference to the stored value. An average moving speed of the arm is measured for discriminating transient increasing in the speed of the arm caused by eccentricity of the disc from the increasing of the speed caused by the arm entering a lead-out groove of the disc.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1982Date of Patent: April 16, 1985Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Jiro Yamada, Tetsuo Maeda, Hiroshi Yasuda

Patent number: 4453244Abstract: A record player having a pick-up arm which is automatically moved to the rest position by a spring, the energy necessary for returning the arm being stored by the lowering device of the arm. A rotating cam which lowers the arm also moves one end of an over-center spring-loaded lever, whose far end is guided such that before the arm is fully lowered the lever passes a dead center position. Motion past dead center causes a pin on the lever to move into position in which subsequent lever return, due to the loading spring, rotates the arm to the rest position.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1981Date of Patent: June 5, 1984Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Michel Beugin, Jean-Pierre Marriere

Patent number: 4445210Abstract: In a tone arm elevating mechanism, an elevator, which is arranged to raise and lower the tone arm, is driven by a solenoid, and the mechanism comprises a first rotary lever contactable with a portion of the elevator and a second rotary lever arranged to be driven by the solenoid, where the second rotary lever is operatively linked with the first rotary lever by means of an elastic member which prevents transmission of shock. Thus, the reciprocating movement of the solenoid is converted into rotational force to cause the elevator to rise gently and slowly. A viscous and resistive material may be provided to the elevator so that the elevator slowly lowers when the solenoid is deenergized. A portion of the elevating mechanism functions as an electrical switch to detect the highest position of the tone arm, while another portion may also function as another switch to detect the fact that the stylus has been placed on the record disk.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1981Date of Patent: April 24, 1984Assignee: Victor Company of Japan, LimitedInventor: Kengo Adachi

Patent number: 4342108Abstract: A tone arm control system includes first and second manually operated keys for providing input signals to a control circuit. The control circuit detects which one of the keys is operated and drives a vertical motor in the tone-arm upward direction and subsequently drives a horizontal motor in a tone-arm horizontal direction depending on which one of the keys is detected as being operated. The control circuit includes a counter which starts counting clock pulses to detect when a predetermined count is reached. During the predetermined count period the horizontal motor is energized at a low voltage to move the tone arm at a relatively low speed. When the clock count exceeds the predetermined value the speed of the tone arm is increased to allow it to speedily approach a desired position located relatively remote from the tone arm.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1980Date of Patent: July 27, 1982Assignee: Victor Company of Japan, LimitedInventors: Masatsugu Kitamura, Tsuyoshi Ono, Hideo Onoye
