  • Patent number: 11803469
Abstract: The disclosure herein describes storing data using a capacity data storage tier and a smaller performance data storage tier. The capacity data storage tier includes capacity data storage hardware configured to store log-structured leaf pages (LLPs), and the performance data storage tier includes performance data storage hardware. A virtual address table (VAT) includes a set of virtual address entries referencing the LLPs. A tree-structured index includes index nodes referencing the set of virtual address entries of the VAT. Data to be stored is received, and at least a first portion of metadata associated with the received data is stored in the LLPs using the VAT, and at least a second portion of metadata associated with the received data is stored in the performance data storage tier. The architecture reduces space usage of the performance data storage tier.

  • Patent number: 11455731
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to video segmentation based on detected video features. More specifically, a segmentation of a video is computed by determining candidate boundaries from detected feature boundaries from one or more feature tracks; modeling different segmentation options by constructing a graph with nodes that represent candidate boundaries, edges that represent candidate segments, and edge weights that represent cut costs; and computing the video segmentation by solving a shortest path problem to find the path through the edges (segmentation) that minimizes the sum of edge weights along the path (cut costs). A representation of the video segmentation is presented, for example, using interactive tiles or a video timeline that represent(s) the video segments in the segmentation.

Abstract: Techniques and interface controls are described which allow users of signal editing applications to easily select previously-selected segments of the signal. As the user selects segments of the signal, the signal editing application automatically generates “selection history data”. The selection history data that is generated for a selected segment indicates the boundaries of the selected segment, and the sequence in which the selected segment was selected relative to other previously-selected segments. The signal editing application provides controls for re-selecting the previously-selected segments that are reflected in the selection history data. In response to user-input received through these controls, the signal editing tool reselects a previously-selected segment based on the boundaries indicated in the selection history data.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of managing CPI (Copy Protection Information) for preventing unauthorized copy of encrypted content recorded on a high-density recording medium such as a BD-ROM (Blu-ray Disc ROM). In the present method, when main content data is recorded in encrypted manner, CPI that is necessary to decrypt the encrypted main content data is written in a predetermined PIC area and is also copied at least once in an area other than the PIC area.

Abstract: The controller includes a deflection signal generator for generating a deflection signal for causing the electron beam to deflect and perform overwriting so that a beam spot of the electron beam follows the translation of the substrate over a period during which the substrate is rotated over a predetermined number of overwriting cycles; and a data output unit for outputting the drawing data, wherein, the deflection signal generator generates a deflection adjustment signal for irradiating the electron beam at a starting position for drawing a concentric circle to be subsequently overwritten after a predetermined deflection adjustment period has elapsed since overwriting of concentric circles based on the drawing data has completed.

  • Patent number: 7965596
Abstract: A device for recording records blocks of information on logical addresses on a record carrier at corresponding physical addresses. The logical addresses are translated into the physical addresses in dependence on defect management information that includes defect information on a defective status of physical addresses and remapping information on translating a logical address initially mapped to an initial physical address to an alternate physical address. The device has a real-time storage unit for writing real-time information blocks (77) to respective initial physical addresses irrespective of the defective status. When recording at a defective status location (76), the real-time information block is temporarily stored in a memory (80). In a separate period, when the writing of real-time information blocks is suspended, said temporarily stored real-time information blocks are additionally written to alternate physical addresses (81).

Abstract: In one embodiment, the recording medium includes a user data area on which one or more recording ranges are allocated and a management area. The method of recording on the recording medium includes receiving an overwriting command to record data on a recorded area of a recording range. Each recording range is one of an open recording range having a recordable position and a closed recording range not having a recordable position. An open recording range is selected fro recording the data from the one or more open recording ranges on the user data area, and the data is recorded starting from the recordable position of the selected open recording range.

  • Patent number: 7907492
Abstract: A data storage medium, and an apparatus and method for formatting the same. The medium is preferably characterized as a hybrid or recordable optical disc, and includes a pre-recorded storage area and a recordable storage area. The pre-recorded storage area stores file system data which identifies at least one file to be stored to the recordable storage area during a subsequent recording session, with the file system data having been stored to the pre-recorded storage area during a previous recording session. The file system data further preferably identifies at least one file stored to the pre-recorded storage area during the previous recording session. The pre-recorded and subsequently stored files are preferably disposed within the same logical track on the medium. The pre-recorded file system data includes entries for the subsequently added file(s), and eliminates the need for multiple copies of the file system on the medium.

Abstract: A device for recording blocks of information on logical addresses on a write once record carrier at corresponding physical addresses. The logical addresses are translated into the physical addresses by addressing means (31). Allocation means (32) define a continuous addressing space for a user area and divide it into a front area, a middle area and a rear area for sequentially recording information by allocating to them parts of the user area address range. The device has re-allocation means (33) for splitting the middle area into new areas, specifically when no more data can be stored in the rear area or the front area.

  • Patent number: 7882304
Abstract: An improved system and method enhances performance of updates to sequential block storage of a storage system. A disk-based sort procedure is provided to establish locality among updates (write data) held in a disk-based log, thereby enabling the write data to be efficiently written to home locations on a home location array. As the write data is received, a log manager of the storage system temporarily stores the data efficiently on the disk-based log. As more write data arrives, the log manager sorts the data in the log in accordance with the sort procedure, thus increasing the locality of data when stored on the home location array. When the log approaches capacity, the log manager writes the sorted data to their home locations on the array with high locality and performance.

Abstract: Additional recording is performed on a recording medium without using a VAT technique. An area including the 256th logical sector is reserved at disc initialization time, and additional recording is performed from this reserved area and after. Additional recording is performed by writing packets from a logical sector immediately after a recorded area (including the reserved area), and AVDP is recorded into two places having the last logical sector number N of a packet structure and a logical sector number less than 256 sectors from N, and thus additional recording in compliance with the UDF is possible after that. At the time of finalization, AVDP is recorded in the 256th logical sector, a surplus area in the reserved area is subjected to padding to ensure wide compatibility with playback-only apparatuses.
