Abstract: A multi-track optical disk reader is provided having an optical pickup including multiple reading beams arranged in a pattern, such that each beam is directed towards a track to be read. The optical pickup is at least partly mounted on a swing-arm mechanism that orients the reading beam pattern with respect to the tracks being read. Methods and apparatus are provided for maintaining a desired position of the reading beams with respect to the tracks on an optical disk.
Abstract: The present invention pertains to an apparatus and method for recording data in a data storage medium. The data storage medium includes a number of discs, each having at least one recording surface. Each recording surface is associated with a read/write head that records and accesses data from the surface. Each recording surface is partitioned into a number of zones. Each zone is vertically aligned with a same zone on each surface of each disc. The zone boundaries on all surfaces of the disc drive are the same. The recording frequency for each zone on all surfaces can differ for each read/write head in order to compensate for a read/write head that cannot meet the BPI error rate threshold.
Abstract: A multimode laser diode stripe is imaged on a light valve, which separates the diode stripe image into a plurality of individually controllable channels. These channels are then imaged onto a recording media where they form a plurality of tracks. Introduction of astigmatism between the multimode laser diode and the light valve causes the laser diode stripe imaged on the light valve to be sharply focussed on its short axis, but less focussed on its elongated axis. This blurring of the stripe's elongated axis at the light valve overcomes near-field non-uniformity in the power distribution of the multimode diode, increasing the reliability and performance of the recording system.

Each of the AOBs includes a plurality of audio packs recorded with audio data corresponding to the decoding algorithm stored in the audio stream attribute.
Abstract: A playback apparatus for reading a record carrier includes a drive unit for sending out audio sectors that were recorded on the record carrier, an ID extractor for extracting the ID codes of the audio sectors that were sent out by the drive unit, a retrieval controller for receiving the ID codes extracted by the ID extractor, and a sector data extractor for receiving data fields of the audio sectors that were sent out by the drive unit. The sector data extractor is controlled by the retrieval controller to extract the data fields of appropriate ones of the audio sectors when the ID codes thereof are recognized by the retrieval controller as belonging to a selected one of the audio programs.
Abstract: An optical information recording and reproducing apparatus is provided that is capable of preventing recorded data from being deleted by mistake under a recording operation mode, and, under a reproduction operation mode, is capable of highly accurately reproducing and reading information data in which crosstalk has been removed. Under the reproduction operation mode, a single laser beam is divided into a plurality of divided laser beams, and they are individually irradiated onto a recording medium. On the other hand, under the recording operation mode, the quantity of light of each divided laser beam other than one beam of all the divided beams is reduced lower than that of the one beam, and they are all irradiated onto the recording medium.
Abstract: An audio data recording disc stores audio data and a text data manager. The text data manager contains an item text. The item text includes a first ID code signal and a second ID code signal. The first ID code signal indicates a main classification rank of an item type of contents represented by the audio data. The second ID code signal relates to a sub classification rank of the item type which is subordinate to the main classification rank.
