Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications, and more specifically increasing user capacity through a frame structure which supports enhanced Machine Type Communication (eMTC) UL multi-user multiplexing. For example, a User Equipment (UE) identifies at least one narrowband region within a wider system bandwidth. The UE receives signaling, from a base station, indicating a sub-region of the narrowband region assigned to the UE for transmitting symbols of a physical uplink channel that are multiplexed with symbols transmitted by one or more other UEs in the narrowband region. The UE transmits the physical uplink channel in the assigned sub-region. Similar techniques are also provided that may be applied to DL multi-user multiplexing.

Abstract: The claimed subject matter relates to architectures and/or mechanisms that can facilitate issuing, embedding and verification of an optical DNA (o-DNA) signature. A first mechanism is provided for obtaining a set of manufacturing errors inherent in an optical media instance. These errors can be non-deterministic and can be encoded into the o-DNA that can be cryptographically signed with a private key, and then embedded into the source optical media instance. A second mechanism is provided that can decrypt the o-DNA with a public key and compare the authenticated errors to the observed errors to ascertain whether the optical media instance is authentic as opposed to a forgery or counterfeit.

Abstract: There is a need to prevent a possible erroneous detection of an off-track condition during recording to an optical disk. The above need can be addressed by, for example, determining an off-track condition has occurred when a light spot is located at least half-way from the track being recorded toward another track adjacent the track being recorded, and stopping a recording operation. In another example, the above need can be addressed by determining that off-track has occurred based on an output of a first off-track detector which detects that the light spot is off the track based on a wobble signal, an output of a second off-track detector which detects that the light spot is off the track based on a tracking error signal, and an output of a zero-cross detector which detects that the tracking error signal crosses zero based on an output of the tracking error signal.

Abstract: A disk drive apparatus drives, by means of a motor, a disk mounted thereon so as to reproduce signals recorded in the disk. The disk drive apparatus has an edge detecting unit for generating an edge signal XEG indicating a timing of phase switching, in accordance with a plurality of signals CU, CV and CW induced when the motor is driven. The disk drive apparatus further has a drive voltage controlling unit for controlling, in accordance with the edge detection signal XEG, the maximum value of a drive voltage VS for driving said motor. This arrangement implements optimal motor control, while reducing circuit scale and cost and, at the same time, enhancing adaptability of the disk drive apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6477124
Abstract: Apparatus and method for recording data to an optical disc to prevent unauthorized duplication of the disc. The disc includes a data placement zone to which first data are written at a first data rate as the disc is rotated at a selected linear velocity. The disc further includes a velocity disruption zone to which second data are written at a second different data rate as the disc is rotated at the selected linear velocity. The variation in frequency between the first and second data rates preferably causes a readback system to lose frequency lock on the second data during a continuous access operation on the first and second data. An unauthorized disc can also be detected by comparing the disc linear velocity as the second data are accessed to a target linear velocity. Access to the disc can be denied when a velocity mismatch is detected.
