  • Patent number: 4571860
Abstract: To remove ice and snow from pavement (1) having a carbonaceous top surface (4), a 915 M-Hz micro-wave generator with wave guide (8) is passed over the ice (13) followed closely by a scraper (10). Concrete pavements (1) are first coated with a reflective (2), heat-insulating (3) and carbonaceous (4) top coat or other carbonaceous coating while asphalt pavements need not be so coated. The micro-waves at this frequency pass through the ice (13), the carbonaceous top surface (4) absorbs the micro-waves and becomes heated thereby, the interface (12) between the ice (13), so freed, is scraped off without damaging the pavement (1).

  • Patent number: 4506465
Abstract: Apparatus and method for snow removal is disclosed. A wheeled frame having an adjustable suspension capable of operation in a snow removal and a transport position is provided. The frame is open at one end and includes a hitch at the other end for connection to a prime mover. Two vertical snow cutting knives are connected to the frame near the open end thereof with a horizontal snow cutting knife connecting the vertical knives proximate the ground. A snow moving blade is pivotably supported to the frame and actuated by a pair of double acting cylinders to move up and down. In operation the open end of the apparatus is pushed into a pile of snow and snow is cut loose by the knives. The blade is then lowered into close proximity with the ground and near the open end of the frame whereby a selected quantity or block of snow may be pulled or towed away.

  • Patent number: 4479312
Abstract: A foldable snow compactor has a center pan with a pair of operatively positioned wings extending from the ends thereof. The wings are mounted for pivotal movement about axes fixed in relation to the center pan. Single hydraulic piston-cylinder units are employed to pivot the wings through arcs of approximately 180.degree. between their operative extended positions and inoperative positions located rearwardly of the center pan and substantially entirely within the width dimension thereof.

  • Patent number: 4403432
Abstract: Disclosed is a snow plow carried on the rear of a vehicle with its plow blade disposable in positions of raised or lowered elevation, and disposable in positions of traverse. The snow plow is so carried by means of a receiver carrying a tongue fixed to a pedestal assembly to which is fixed a pintle which freely carries a rotatable sleeve to which is fixed a first rectangular tubing pivotally mounted with a second rectangular tubing to which the plow blade is affixed. A winch cable engaged with the second tubing raises and lowers the plow blade upon operation of the winch. A clevis pin is engageable with alignable sets of holes through the pintle and sleeve to lock the plow blade in discrete traverse positions.
