  • Patent number: 9512600
Abstract: Coupling assemblies for releasably holding separable parts together, and in particular for releasably securing a wear member to a support structure in excavating equipment are formed so as to provide increased take up to ensure a tight fit of the wear member on the support structure even if considerable deviation between the parts exists due to wearing, manufacturing variations or the like. The coupling assemblies are suitable for securing points, adapters, shrouds, or other replaceable component to various excavating equipment. The components of the coupling assembly include a wedge and a spool that pivots about a fulcrum when the wedge is driven into assembly for increased take up capabilities. The spool is rotatably engaged around a fulcrum of the support structure and has a bearing portion that bears against and moves the wear member to be secured to thereby take up any gaps between the engaging surfaces of these members.

  • Patent number: 7603799
Abstract: A hammerless connector pin assembly is insertable in the aligned connector openings in telescoped excavation wear and support members and has associated locking structure for releasably locking the inserted assembly therein. The inserted assembly has opposite end portions that block removal of the wear member from the support member. One of such end portions has a laterally projecting cam member disposed thereon which is positioned within one of the wear member openings. As the interior surface of the wear member becomes worn from use and is able to shift further rearwardly along the support member, the cam member may be rotationally adjusted to maintain contact with the wear member to prevent forward movement thereof away from its rearward shifted position.

Abstract: A device for connecting a wear part to a support thereof on materials handling equipment for public works machines, comprises a key placed in an axial alignment with regard to an elastically deformable sleeve placed in part of an adapter. The key has a key foot and a key head on either side and opposite ends of a body. The key head is arranged with a part forming an off-centered seat. The key foot comprises an anchoring element for temporarily penetrating into the elastically deformable sleeve. Rotation of the key causes its misalignment with regard to its initial axis and the tight securing of the key, either in the sleeve by anchoring, or against metal parts of the tooth and of the adapter on differentiated support zones.

  • Patent number: 5983534
Abstract: An excavating tooth point is captively retained externally on an adapter nose with a specially designed lock structure removably received in a side wall opening of the tooth point and an underlying opening in the adapter nose. The rotary lock structure includes a cylindrical body having a side portion from which a resiliently biased force exerting member and a spring-loaded detent pin outwardly project. With the adapter nose received in the tooth pocket the lock structure body is axially inserted into the tooth and adapter openings in a first rotational orientation and then forcibly rotated to a second rotational orientation. The surfaces of the tooth and nose openings are configured to radially inwardly displace the radially outwardly biased force exerting member in response to such rotation, in a manner causing the force exerting member and the lock structure body to exert on the adapter nose and tooth point a continuous resilient force tending to tighten the tooth point onto the adapter nose.

  • Patent number: 5937551
Abstract: A lock system removably connects an earthengaging tooth point to an adapter. The lock system is particularly suited to tooth points for large excavating buckets, such as dragline buckets. The forward-extending nose of the adapter fits within the rear-facing socket of the tooth point. Ears extend back from the tooth point on both sides of the adapter and define apertures adapted to receive pins. A hole in the adapter is also adapted to receive the pins. The pins extend through the apertures and into the hole, thus fixedly connecting the tooth point to the adapter. To remove the tooth point, both pins can be driven into the adapter hole and housed there concurrently. The tooth point can then be removed and the pins later driven out of the hole.

  • Patent number: 5718070
Abstract: An excavation tooth point longitudinally extending along an axis and having a pocket area extending inwardly through a rear end thereof is telescoped onto a nose portion of an adapter structure by inserting the nose portion into the tooth point pocket area. The inserted nose portion has a tapered side opening therein that is positioned between a corresponding pair of similarly tapered tooth side wall openings. The tooth point is removably coupled to the adapter nose using an elongated, wedge shaped connector member which is inserted, small end first, through the generally aligned tooth and adapter openings. An internal passage longitudinally extends through the large connector member end and receives an inner portion of a force exerting member which compresses a spring within the passage, the spring in turn resiliently biasing an outer portion of the force exerting member into abutment with an interior surface portion of the tooth.
