Digging Edge Patents (Class 37/446)
  • Patent number: 10287753
Abstract: A locking pin assembly for securing a ground engaging element to a support structure may include a body portion and may include a shaft portion disposed within the body portion and rotatable between a first position that mechanically inhibits removal of a ground engaging element from a support structure and a second position that permits removal of the ground engaging element from the support structure. A camshaft may be rotatably disposed within the shaft portion and may be arranged to cooperate with the shaft portion to rotate through a first range of motion and to apply a rotational force on the shaft portion through a second range of motion. A radially extending locking element may be configured to selectively mechanically interfere with one of the shaft portion and the body portion to selectively prevent rotation of the shaft portion relative to the body portion.

  • Patent number: 9689146
Abstract: A securing apparatus including a first and second component. The first component has an opening extending along an axis. The elongated member has a piston hole penetrating the first component and aligned with the opening. A piston is located within the piston hole, and is complimentary shaped to sit within the piston. A pressure member is located within the opening, and an activator is configured to coordinate with and extend into the opening. The activator applies a force to the pressure member and distorts the pressure member. The second component, which compliments and mates with the first component, has an engaging surface that coordinates with an end of the piston. The force applied to the pressure member causes the pressure member to distort and apply pressure to the piston to extend the piston outward to interact with the engaging surface of the second component to restrain the second component.

  • Patent number: 8966791
Abstract: A staggered edge bucket excavation tool has a body formed by side-leading edge plates, a back sheet, and a plate with a front leading edge spanning a region of the bucket between edge plates. The tool defines a volume for receiving material excavated from a hard packed substrate. Two or more teeth may be mounted along the front leading edge, with each tooth defining a forward surface non-aligned with forward surfaces of all other teeth, thereby disposed for individual, sequential initial engagement with the substrate during excavation. The teeth define a flat plane generally parallel to the planar plate. Each tooth defines an excavation angle between a surface of the tooth and the axis of rotation, and the excavation angle of each tooth being different from excavation angles of all other teeth. In implements, the front leading edge defines multiple edge portions or defines a single multiple edge portion.

Abstract: Apparatus for moving associated material which includes a mounting and a blade carried on the mounting, the blade having an edge for engaging a quantity of material to be moved, the edge having a bead extending along the edge, the bead having a cross-section that has a curvilinear contour whereby the blade will be deflected away from interfering obstacles within the associated material. In some embodiments the apparatus may be a shovel. In some of these embodiments, the bead has a circular cross-section. Some embodiments have the circular cross-section and others have a curvilinear cross-section. The invention also includes the method for moving material which includes providing a mounting and providing a blade carried on the mounting that has an edge for engaging a quantity of material to be moved, providing an bead extending along the edge that has a cross-section that has a curvilinear contour whereby the blade will be deflected away from interfering obstacles within the associated material.

  • Patent number: 7266914
Abstract: A bucket assembly is provided with a kit that includes a base plate for permanent connection to a lower part of the bucket, and sacrificial, impermanent replaceable wear edge segments for the forward lip and corner leading edges of an excavator or loader bucket. These segments form a set of “bolt on” cast wear members and wing wear segments. The base plate and wear plates are drilled and machined to accommodate the precision fitting bolting on of the replaceable lips and cast wing segments. The cast lip segments are of both left and right hand configurations and come in a variety of widths that, in combination, may tend to fit a large number of different commercially available bucket sizes. The lip top and bottom faces are shaped in a profile that may tend to result in relatively uniform wear and a reduction in friction when digging into various materials.

Abstract: The invention relates to a lip for an excavation bucket. The lip includes a lower plate defining a plurality of integral projections along a front edge thereof, an upper plate and a central plate sandwiched between the lower plate and the upper plate so as to form a laminated structure. The upper plate also defines a plurality of integral projections which together with the projections on the lower plate form tool attachment formations in a serrated front edge of the laminated structure for supporting ground-engaging tools on the lip.

  • Patent number: 6854527
Abstract: The present invention provides for carbide edge snowplow and grader blades that are durable and fracture resistant. The carbide along the blade edge and blade bottom which contacts the surface being treated is designed to limit the degree of fracture of the carbide. Carbide inserts along the edge and/or bottom are separated from each other by a steel alloy spacer/shim along the width of the blade. The spacer/shim reduces the potential for impact damage cracks that form in a carbide insert from propagating into adjacent inserts along the width of the blade. In one embodiment, the improved blade edge comprises an edge body having a lower edge with a recess and separate slot in the bottom surface of the edge. Within the blade recess and blade slot are positioned carbide block/bar inserts separated by spacer means made from a ductile material.

Abstract: A plow moldboard cutting edge includes a cutting edge blade having a front (leading) face and a rear (trailing) face, with one or more receiving apertures defined therebetween. An elastic bushing is then provided in each of the receiving apertures of the cutting edge blade, with each bushing having a through hole defined therein. The cutting edge blade is then fastened to the lower edge of a plow moldboard by extending fasteners through cutting edge mounting holes defined in the plow moldboard adjacent its lower edge, and then into the through holes of the bushings. The fasteners secure the bushings to the plow moldboard, and thereby mount the cutting edge blade (which is situated about the elastic bushings) to the plow moldboard as well, with the elastic bushings elastically spacing the cutting edge blade from the fasteners.
