Abstract: The present invention relates to receiving access signals from a plurality of terminals over a radio channel and in particular to determining a detection threshold level on the radio channel. A detection threshold level should balance the risk of missed detections to the risk of false detections. A problem in finding an equilibrium threshold is the radio environment, with noise and interference, change and then also the radio false detections or missed detections change. According to the present invention some access signals can be identified as being not assigned and therefore not being in use, and any detection of a non-used signal is identified as a false detection. By monitoring the ratio of false detections vs. correct detections the threshold level for detection is tuned into an equilibrium level, and that is adapted to the changing radio environments.

  • Patent number: 7936680
Abstract: After statically provisioned paths are created through an Ethernet network, trunks may be created to extend along those paths. The trunks extend between pairs of NNI interfaces on either end of the path, and Ethernet OAM may be run over the trunks to detect connectivity along the paths. Service instances and service groups may be provisioned over particular paths through the network. Each service instance/service group is associated with a trunk and the Ethernet OAM service on the trunk may be used to provide Ethernet connectivity OAM for the service instance/service group. Upon detection of a failure on the trunk, the service instances/service groups associated with the trunk may be caused to failover to an alternate path through the network. Thus, a single Ethernet OAM service instance may be used to provide connectivity verification so that connectivity detection does not need to be performed on each individual service instances/service group.

Abstract: There is provided a unit capable of performing calculation of delay time between a measuring station and a station to be measured by using an echo request/response frame in any block and at any time in a manner being independent from time-synchronization. To a payload portion of an OAM (Operations, Administration and Maintenance) echo request/response frame to be used for an OAM testing are added “request transmitting time” being the time at which an OAM echo request has been transmitted from the measuring station and “response receiving time” being the time at which the measuring station has received an OAM response from the station to be measured. After termination of the testing, the OAM echo request/response frame stored in a data buffer is read at arbitrary time and the request transmitting time added to the frame and response receiving time are extracted to calculate delay time between the measuring station and the station to be measured.

Abstract: To perform protection switching between tunnels in a network, Y.1731-based APS messages are often sent from a management system to nodes at the tunnels' end-points. If the management system is located near one node (local node) and far away from the other node (remote node), the APS message, which operates at the Ethernet service layer, travels to the remote node slower than traffic over the tunnels. This slower transmission time may prevent the remote node from performing a switch within a desired timeframe. The disclosed embodiments include a 1:1 bidirectional VLAN-based protection arrangement that accomplishes a 50 millisecond switching time without using Y.1731-based APS messages. The embodiments accomplish this by sending a switching command from the management system to the local node and modifying a message already traveling from the local node to the remote node to include a switching message that causes the remote node to perform the switch.

Abstract: Forwarding Adjacencies (FAs) can be set up between IP/MPLS routers without requiring a Routing Adjacency (RA) to be brought up for every FA. This enables increased bypass connectivity to be established between end-point routers in the IP/MPLS network without attendant additional processing associated with having dedicated RA for each FA. Where it is possible to modify the end-point routers, the physical ports may be configured to support stand-alone FAs. A configured FA at a physical port is then associated with an IP address of a remote end-point router and a connection within the bypass technology. OAM is used to verify connectivity and configuration across the FA. Alternatively, an emulated Ethernet LAN segment may be used for IP traffic to enable full mesh connectivity to be provided by the bypass technology while requiring only one or a small number of RAs to be implemented at each end-point router.

Abstract: Inserting an address used for performing such OAM functions in an efficient way that is transparent to a customer or service using the network path is disclosed. An indication is received that a source address reserved for OAM use should be inserted into a forwarding database associated with a provider network node, such as a provider edge device, that receives the indication. The address is inserted into a forwarding database as an address that is owned by the provider network node and reserved for OAM use. One or more other nodes associated with a service with which the OAM address is associated may be notified that the OAM address is associated with the provider network node that owns the OAM address.

  • Patent number: 7742400
Abstract: A method for detecting link failures between nodes in hybrid networks includes: establishing sub-BFD connections between nodes and edge nodes and establishing an end-to-end BFD connection. When a failure occurs in the sub-BFD connection of IP network segment, notify a peer node of the failure via the end-to-end BFD connection. When a failure occurs in the MPLS OAM mechanism of MPLS network segment, the edge node notifies the node of the failure via the sub-BFD connection. Another method includes: establishing sub-BFD connections between nodes and edge nodes. When one end of the sub-BFD connection failures, notify the IP network segment at the peer end of the failure via an extended MPLS OAM mechanism and notify the node of the failure via the sub-BFD connection of the IP network segment. An interworking between the BFD detecting mechanism and the MPLS OAM detecting mechanism in a hybrid network can be implemented.

Abstract: A multicasting method and apparatus in a network including a transport multiprotocol label switch (T-MPLS) network and a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network are disclosed. At least one of first switches, connected to the T-MPLS network, second switches connected to the WDM network, and a switch hub establishes a multicasting path by using a label switch path (LSP) ID and a label switch router (LSR) ID, in which the first switch on the multicasting path multicasts a T-MPLS signal, the switch hub converts the T-MPLS signal into an optical multicasting signal and multicasts the converted optical multicasting signal, and the second switch receives the optical multicasting signal and multicasts it in units of the T-MPLS signal.

  • Patent number: 7729357
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for improving or optimizing the frequency at which the keep-alive messages are sent to a network device (e.g., an Internet service platform) from a set top box (STB) connected to a router or gateway. By improving or optimizing the frequency at which these messages are sent by the STB to the network device, the amount of network bandwidth that is consumed as a result of sending keep-alive messages can be reduced. This allows a network device to remotely and asynchronously access a STB in a very efficient manner in terms of bandwidth consumption.
