Abstract: A system and method that notifies the receipt of a voicemail message at an IP telephone using one or more of instant messaging and short message service. A preferred embodiment of the invention provides an IP telephone that prepares a notification regarding the receipt of a voicemail message. In one embodiment, the IP telephone queries the availability of an instant messaging client via an instant messaging presence server, and forwards the notification to the instant messaging presence server if the instant messaging client is available. In another embodiment, the IP telephone sends the notification to a short message service client via a short message service gateway. In still another embodiment, the IP telephone sends the notification to both instant messaging client and short message service clients.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure present physical layer metrics for supporting adaptive station-dependent channel state information feedback rate in multi-user communication systems. For certain aspects, the physical layer metrics may be calculated at the stations and communicated to the AP. For certain aspects, the metrics may be calculated at an access point utilizing information about channel characteristics of stations available at the access point.

Abstract: A terminal and a method for requesting data using a voice command is disclosed. The method includes setting a voice command mode on an information requestor terminal; receiving, during a data voice call, a voice command; recognizing, with the processor, the voice command to obtain voice command information; and executing a command based on the voice command information. The method further includes determining whether the voice command information is to be executed by an information provider terminal that is different than an information requestor terminal; transmitting the voice command information to the information provider terminal using a communication path used by the data voice call; and receiving a result of the executing from the information provider terminal.

Abstract: A system provides push-to-talk (PTT) or similar communication service via a radio access network providing wireless mobile packet data communications for mobile stations. A server distributes packets of digitized audio received from a broadcasting mobile station to one or more client devices of other parties. The called client device(s), however, may not all have the same communications capabilities as the broadcasting mobile station. Signaling procedures are adapted to inform the broadcasting station of the capabilities of the other client device(s). This enables the broadcasting mobile station to configure its transmissions of digitized audio through the network for compatibility with the capabilities of the other client device(s). Proper configuration avoids loss of data at the destination, particularly at the start of a PTT transmission, due to transmission in a form or configuration that may be incompatible with one or more of the receiving stations.

Abstract: The illustrative embodiments described herein provide improved systems and methods for conferencing enterprise and non-enterprise callers. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a first call initiated by an enterprise caller at an enterprise, communicating with an enterprise media server to initiate a tributary conference on the enterprise media server, joining the enterprise caller to the tributary conference such that the enterprise caller is in data communication with the tributary conference, receiving a second call initiated by a non-enterprise caller via a public switched telephone network, interfacing the non-enterprise caller with a data center media server, creating a home conference on the data center media center, joining the second call to the home conference, and interfacing the home conference on the data center media server to the tributary conference on the enterprise media server to form a linked conference between the enterprise caller and the non-enterprise caller.

Abstract: A method and system for providing call forwarding in an IP telephone network is disclosed. First, when a telephone number for a first telephone from a second telephone is dialed, the call is routing to a call manager. Call setup procedures with a BRG responsible for the first telephone are then initiated. The BRG then checks stored call forwarding profiles to determine whether there is an active call forwarding profile for the first telephone. The call is connected to the first telephone if an active call forwarding profile is not found. However, if an active call forwarding profile is found, the call forwarding information is sent to the call manager. The call is routed to at least a third telephone based on the call forwarding information.

Abstract: A method includes receiving, at an analog telephony adapter unit, a voice over internet protocol call signal including a caller identifier. The caller identifier includes a calling number and a billing name associated with the calling number. The method further includes retrieving an alias (or display name) associated with the calling number from a personal address book. The method further includes transmitting a modified caller identifier including the calling number and the alias to an output device.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and communication network system that allows an endpoint to be simultaneously registered with more than one communications server is described. In one embodiment, the communication network system includes a network, a plurality of communications servers that are coupled to the network, and a plurality of endpoints coupled to the network. Each endpoint is capable of being simultaneously registered with more than one communications server. A communication method for an endpoint involves registering a first logical line of the endpoint with a first communications server, and registering a second logical line of the endpoint with a second communications server. Consequently, flexibility is obtained by allowing an endpoint to choose the registering communications server for each logical line of the endpoint.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media provide for providing an event alert. According to embodiments, a method for providing an event alert is provided. According to the method, an incoming communication from a first device is detected. An initiating party associated with the first device is identified. Whether the initiating party associated with the first device is further associated with an alert tag is determined. The alert tag may include an identifying alert identifying the initiating party associated with the first device. In response to determining that the initiating party associated with the first device is associated with the alert tag, the identifying alert is provided as the event alert on a second device.

Abstract: Rerouting apparatus for rerouting data including multimedia data. The apparatus is for association with electronic equipment and allows for routing the data to a device regarded as the most convenient for playing the media. The apparatus comprises an announcer device for indicating to surrounding equipment that associated equipment is available for rerouting, thereby to enable receipt of rerouted communications therefrom, and a scout device for scanning surroundings of the associated equipment to find out about compatible equipment in the vicinity, thereby to reroute communications thereto. The apparatus may be attached to any device having data processing capability, to enable rerouting of data and communications therebetween.

Abstract: A method and an Ethernet local area network are described herein in which the Ethernet local area network is configured to enable a talking device (e.g., microphone) to send a media stream to one or more listening devices (e.g., speakers). In one embodiment, the method for configuring the Ethernet local area network includes the following steps: (1) providing a user of a talking device with a “relevant” catalog which contains information including positional information about one or more listening devices; (2) allowing the user to interface with the “relevant” catalog so they can select at least one of the listening device(s); (3) enabling the talking device to send a subscribe-request message to the selected listening device(s) requesting that the selected listening device(s) subscribe to the talking device; (4) and sending a media stream from the talking device to the selected listening device(s).

Abstract: A system and method for providing a hearing aid compatibility mode of communication service to hearing aid users is disclosed. The described system can store an indication at a communication network that a given account is used by a person who wears hearing aid equipment. Services provided to that account can then use communication parameters and network resources which tend to minimize interference with a hearing aid. The network can instruct the user equipment and the radio access network to communicate using hearing aid friendly parameters. In some cases, network resources beyond those allocated for accounts not indicated as hearing aid user accounts can be allocated. Parameters adjusted in hearing aid compatibility mode can include codec rates, operating power levels, and burst frame length, among others. In some described embodiments, the hearing aid compatibility mode can be selectively enabled as desired by an account user.

Abstract: A system and method for managing wireless devices in a wireless network that performs operations comprising: receiving a request to determine at least one offer related to a quota for a wireless device from a charging gateway of the wireless network during a packet data session established between the wireless device and the wireless network; retrieving contextual information associated with the wireless device from a database of the wireless network; determining a plurality of offers including the at least one offer for the wireless device based on the contextual information; transmitting the plurality of offers to the wireless device; receiving a confirmation that the wireless device has selected the at least one offer from the wireless device; and transmitting the confirmation of the selection of the at least one offer to the charging gateway during the packet data session.

Abstract: A method and system for providing calendar services in a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) home network environment is provided. The method includes creating a calendar event in a UPnP calendar when a request for creating the calendar event is received by the TS from one of Telephony Control Points (TelCPs) in the UPnP home network environment; determining whether the created calendar event meets predetermined conditions; and triggering a notification, indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, to the TelCPs in the UPnP home network environment when the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions.

Abstract: A method of communicating over a communications system includes determining that a communication event at a user terminal of the communications system requires use of a feature for processing data, the communication event being over the communications system and determining that the feature required by the communication event is not enabled for use at the user terminal when the communication event is initiated. Following the step of determining that the feature is not enabled, the method further includes retrieving a certificate enabling the use of the feature at the user terminal and using the feature at the user terminal to process data of the communication event.

Abstract: Methods for multiple-termination routing in a wireless network environment that includes an Internet Protocol (“IP”) core are described herein. One method includes receiving a call delivery request. The call delivery request includes a called number. The call features associated with the called number are determined. A determination is made whether the call features include multiple-termination routing information for a plurality of potential terminating devices. When the call features include the multiple-termination routing information including at least one termination to be routed utilizing Session Initiation Protocol (“SIP”), a call setup is initiated to each of the plurality of potential terminating devices.

Abstract: A communication method, system, and apparatus are applied to the field of communications technologies. The communication method includes presetting first correspondence between a user identifier and an extension number in a VoIP server. After the VoIP server receives a call request and if the call request contains a called extension number, a called user identifier is acquired according to the called extension number and the preset first correspondence. The call request is sent to a first client corresponding to the called user identifier, so that the first client is capable of forwarding a call to a voice communication telephone set connected to the first client.

Abstract: Hybrid communications voicemail systems and methods are disclosed. A wireline telephone number may be operatively associated with a wireless telephone voicemail box such that calls placed to the wireline telephone number and subsequently routed to voicemail may be routed to the wireless telephone voicemail box. Thus, the user of both wireline and wireless telephones may check voicemail messages at a single wireless voicemail box. Parents or supervisors may check voicemail messages or converted text messages deposited for children or employees at the single wireless voicemail box. A wireless telephone user may allow calls to be routed to his/her wireless telephone from his/her wireline telephone if he/she cannot be reached at the wireline telephone or as designated by the user.

Abstract: The subject matter of this disclosure can be implemented in, among other things, a method. In these examples, the method includes receiving a request to join a conference call from a user, and determining whether the user is allowed to join the conference call based on an access policy configurable by a moderator of the conference call. Abstract: Methods and systems for sending multicast messages are disclosed. A multicast message is received to be transmitted to a plurality of access terminals at a radio access network (RAN), the received multicast message having a first format. The first format may correspond to a conventional multicast message format. The RAN determines whether the received multicast message requires special handling. If the RAN determines the received multicast message requires special handling, the radio access network converts the received multicast message from the first format into a second format. The RAN transmits the converted multicast message with the second format (e.g., a data over signaling (DOS) message) on a control channel to at least one of the plurality of access terminals. The access terminals receiving the converted multicast message interpret the message as a multicast message.

The call is then forwarded to the target voice identity in the voice identity mapping policy.

An allowable calling number list is generated via a suitable mechanism such as a call center. The allowable calling number list is utilized by telephone number management server to manage inbound call access to suspended accounts. Account representatives are given access to the suspended numbers. Additionally, certain emergency inbound calls may be permitted from select numbers.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a circuit switched (CS) paging message is received at a multi-mode communication device. The CS paging message is received when a packet switched (PS) service is active at the multi-mode communication device. A PS precedence feature is activated at the multi-mode communication device that prioritizes PS communications over CS communications. A CS bearer connection is established with a CS network in response to receiving the CS paging message, and an incoming call notification message that identifies a calling party is received from the CS network. Upon receipt of the incoming call notification message, the CS bearer connection with the CS network is released. A notification of a missed incoming call from the calling party is displayed (e.g., substantially in real-time) via a user interface.

Abstract: A device receives a request from an Internet Protocol (IP)-based device to create a virtual extension of a plain old telephone service (POTS)-based telephone line, authenticates the IP-based device for association with the POTS-based telephone line, and creates the virtual extension of the POTS-based telephone line to the IP-based device when the IP-based device is authenticated.

Abstract: Extensible media and/or activity sharing within a voice call or concurrent real-time communication session is enabled. A concurrent voice call may contextualize shared media and/or activities. Users may share live experiences within the context of a voice call. Continuous, changing real-time media types such as periodic media (e.g., a user's current location) and streaming media (e.g., what the user is currently “seeing” through their personal video camera) may be shared, as well as interactive activities and atomic media types such as an image or a text message. Such sharing may have a unidirectional modality, for example, one party may offer to share media and/or an activity and another party may accept or reject it. Once accepted, the media and/or activity may be available until the sharing party terminates the call or ends the sharing. Conventional mobile computing environments may be adapted to enable rapid, wide-spread adoption of these communication modalities.

Abstract: Methods and systems for supplying data objects to users of a communication system are disclosed. In an exemplary method a session is established between a first and second communication device, and a primary data object providing first information pertaining to a user of the first communication device is transferred to the second communication device upon the occurrence of a triggering event at the first communication device. A request for a secondary data object is transferred from the second communication device to a data server, the request including the first information and further including information pertaining to the user of the second communication device. A secondary data object intended for rendering at the first and second communication devices is created and transferred to the first and second communication devices.

Abstract: A circuit including an initiator of a transaction, an interconnect, and a controller. The controller is configured in response to a condition in a least one first part of the circuit to send a notification via the interconnect to at least one block in a second part of the circuit. The notification includes information about the condition in the first part of the circuit, the condition preventing a response to the transaction from being received by the initiator.

Abstract: A mobile terminal and a method of controlling the mobile terminal are provided. The mobile terminal includes: a display; a wireless Internet module; and a controller for acquiring information about a plurality of voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) accounts that can communicate through the wireless Internet module and for distinguishing information about a first user group corresponding to the acquired plurality of VoIP accounts from information about a second user group not corresponding to the acquired plurality of VoIP accounts and for displaying the information in the display. Therefore, by displaying to distinguish information about a user group corresponding to a plurality of VoIP accounts from other information, a function can be easily selected through a plurality of VoIP accounts.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, interworking between an H.323 protocol and SIP protocol for a call forward/redirection is provided. A first user may call a second user. The second user may have set preferences that cause a call redirection/forward to another end device. The end device may be associated with the second user or another user. Different preferences for the call forward/redirection may be provided. For example, a call may be forwarded all the time, when the second end device is busy, when there is no answer, etc. The redirection may then be performed using a gateway. When end devices communicate using SIP and H.323, the gateway provides interworking to provide the call forward/redirection. For example, the gateway maps a 3xx message in SIP to an H.450.3 message in the H.323 protocol, and vice versa, to provide the call forward/redirection.

A calling module uniquely identifies the telephone call and initiates calling by a dialer. Once the telephone call is established, auxiliary functions such as call monitoring, recording, transfer, or conference calling may be initiated for the call. Additional controls corresponding to the auxiliary functions may provided on the web page or a related web page. The web pages used to provide the user controls may stateless web pages.

Abstract: A late call forwarding method in the IMS centralized service. During a call setting up, an ICCF receives a call request from the CSCF serving the called user, called session A, and the ICCF acquires a called user's roaming number and initiates a call to the called user. After receiving the call request, the VMSC serving the called user triggers the late call forwarding service according its determination. A CAMEL service is triggered when the VMSC initiates a call to the forwarding target. The VMSC exchanges messages with the ICCF and informs the ICCE about session associated information and the forwarding reason. When the ICCF determines that the forwarding is needed, it sends a response to the session A does not send the response message, after a telecom application server (TAS) receives the indication, the TAS initiates a regular forwarding service.

Abstract: Systems and method are for managing packet data protocol (PDP) contexts in a wireless data communications network. A plurality of real-time applications are prioritized within a single, shared PDP context or allocated a second PDP context based upon priority levels logically assigned to the plurality of applications such that high priority applications are delivered before lower priority applications. Lower priority applications are suspended and interrupted by higher priority applications and are set to resume after the higher priority applications are completed. Priority levels are established by a priority management engine (PME) that may reside in one or more network elements, such as a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) Support Node or a network probe system. The priority management engine establishes the priority levels based upon one or more factors including, for example, PDP utilization characteristics at a given time and/or given network location, and/or user preferences.

Abstract: A communication control device executes a call-out process of calling out a recipient telephone device while specifying an importance level via a telephone network in response to a request from a transmitter telephone device. A recipient received a call operates a mobile communication terminal after a telephone call ends, accesses an information providing server via a wireless LAN access point and the Internet, and inputs information evaluating whether or not an importance level specified for the received call is appropriate. The information providing server provides the input evaluation information to a storage device. The communication control device determines whether or not to execute a call-out process based on the evaluation information stored in the storage device when there is a call-out request from a transmitter.

Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention is a method for server side integration of communication devices and the general purpose PC of the same user through a computer network wherein no physical connection is required between the PC and the communication device. The user registers with PnC (phone and computer) server for subscribing to one or more PnC services such as drop-to-call, conference-call-dropping service, webpage sharing, caller kaleidoscope etc., via user interface of communications device and/or PC. Various features for subscribing and unsubscribing to services are provided along with authenticating the user using the name and the phone number of the user while registering with the server.

Abstract: A telephone is described that allows any arbitrary combination of key strokes, including numerical keys, extension keys, as well as function keys such as TRANSFER, CONFERENCE, etc., to be programmed such that the entire sequence of key strokes can be recalled with the touch of a single button. The phone can be programmed directly by operation of the telephone user interface on the phone (i.e., the keys, phone display, and speaker prompting the user) and a program button dedicated to the feature of programming a separate programmable button to map to the specified key sequence. The feature can be implemented in advanced telephones capable of voice over Internet Protocol networks, and supporting the Session Initiation Protocol. In these more advanced phones, the programming can be done by a system administrator or by the user of the phone via a computer with internet access.
