    Abstract: In one exemplary embodiment, an Ethernet system includes an Ethernet networking device coupled with an edge device and at least one destination device via an Ethernet cable. The Ethernet networking device includes an equalizing interface. The Ethernet system also contains an equalizing interface including an equalizing receiver and an equalizing transmitter. The equalizing receiver provides a gain to a first signal received from the edge device that is substantially a loss value of the first signal in the Ethernet cable. The equalizing transmitter provides a gain to a second signal transmitted to the edge device that is substantially a loss value of the first signal in the Ethernet cable. The Ethernet system also includes an edge device.

    Abstract: A new random linear network coding scheme for reliable communications for time division duplexing channels is proposed. The setup assumes a packet erasure channel and that nodes cannot transmit and receive information simultaneously. The sender transmits coded data packets back-to-back before stopping to wait for the receiver to acknowledge (ACK) the number of degrees of freedom, if any, that are required to decode correctly the information. Provided herein is an analysis of this problem to show that there is an optimal number of coded data packets, in terms of mean completion time, to be sent before stopping to listen. This number depends on the latency, probabilities of packet erasure and ACK erasure, and the number of degrees of freedom that the receiver requires to decode the data. This scheme is optimal in terms of the mean time to complete the transmission of a fixed number of data packets.

Before sending this data, the server sends a schedule to the communications device through the duplex channel, so the communications device knows which bits of data are coming through which channels and at which times. A descheduler within the communications device receives the schedule and alerts the communications device to start receiving data on other simplex channels. The descheduler then puts the bits of data in order as they stream in across the duplex and simplex channels.

    Abstract: A method for measuring and determining the duplex modes of a network interface. The method assumes the network interface to be operating in a half-duplex mode until the bandwidth utilization reaches a threshold. When the threshold is reached, the method checks the traffic collision in the interface. If there is no collision, then the duplex mode is determined to be full-duplex. If there is collision, then the duplex mode is determined to be half-duplex and an alarm is set off. In another embodiment, the interface type is determined through SNMP. If the interface is a WAN interface, then the interface is determined to be full-duplex.

A third method of operation according to the present invention includes adjusting the receiver sensitivity of the Home Phoneline stations according to detected or characterized levels of cross-talk within the MDU.

Re-use patterns of the physical channels are used for deployment of half-duplex base stations and half-duplex nodes in the FDD region to minimize co-channel interference and interference due to uncorrelated rain fade. Additional methods and systems utilize full-duplex base stations and smart antenna to communicate with the half-duplex nodes.
