Abstract: Methods and apparatus for efficient two-stage paging wireless communications systems are described. Wireless terminals are assigned to paging groups. A few first paging message information bits are modulated (using non-coherent modulation) into a first paging signal and communicated from a base station to wireless terminals. WTs wake-up, receive the first paging signal and quickly ascertain whether its paging group should expect a second paging signal, if so, the WT is operated to receive the second paging signal; otherwise, the WT goes back to sleep conserving power. The base station modulates (using coherent modulation) a number of second message information bits into a second paging signal and transmits the signal to WTs. From the information in first and second paging signals, a WT can determine that it is the paged WT and process the paging instructions. The intended paged WT can transmit an acknowledgement signal on a dedicated uplink resource.

  • Patent number: 8670372
Abstract: A system and method for dynamically dividing the capacity of a fixed time division multiplexing (TDM) frame between physical channels for data transmission. According to various embodiments, a time frequency frame is divided into a plurality of subframes, and each of the plurality of subframes are divided into a plurality of corresponding slots. The plurality of slots are then selectively time shifted such that a defined time shift exists between corresponding slots in each subframe within the time frequency frame. For any slots or slot portions which have been selectively shifted beyond the end of the time frequency frame, such slots or slot portions are cyclically shifted to the beginning of the frame. Service data is then written into the slots of the time frequency frame, and the frame containing the service data can then be transmitted. Initialization and service access processes for a receiver are also provided.

Abstract: While directional communication using millimeter waves is realized, the number of communication stations through which simultaneous communication is possible is increased to increase the throughput of the entire system. A communication apparatus stores, as a stop setting person direction, a beam direction in which received electrical power when an RTS or a CTS destined for another station is received becomes a maximum and then sets a transmission stop period. Within the transmission stop period, only when the direction of a frame transmission destination is separate from the stop setting person direction, transmission of frames is performed by directing a transmission beam toward the frame transmission destination. Whereas a hidden terminal does not unnecessarily stop a frame transmission operation, the hidden terminal is not against the intention of requesting the setting of the transmission stop period.

Abstract: A system can be implemented in a station associated with a wireless network and the station can receive uplink time division multiplexed (TDM) transmissions from a user device. The system includes a first filter to filter uplink TDM transmissions, associated with the user device, during a first period of time when the user device is transmitting on an uplink data channel (DCH) to generate a first interference estimate. The system further includes a second filter to filter uplink TDM transmissions, associated with the user device, during a second period of time when the user device is not transmitting on the uplink DCH to generate a second interference estimate. The system also includes a third filter to filter uplink TDM transmissions, associated with the user device, during the first and second periods of time, to generate a third interference estimate.

  • Patent number: 8599944
Abstract: Provided is a pulse modulation circuit capable of generating a pulse modulation signal with a steep rise and a desired pulse width at a desired timing not depending on a transmission signal sequence. In this circuit, a control signal generation unit (110) generates a first control signal if transmission data (S11) is “1” and a second control signal if the transmission data (S11) is “0.” The control signal generation unit (110) controls an oscillator (1200) of an intermittently operating circuit (120) to be at an oscillation state for outputting a desired first oscillation signal while the first control signal is turned ON and controls the oscillator (1200) to be at an idling state for outputting a second oscillation signal having a lower amplitude than the first oscillation signal while the second control signal is turned ON.

Abstract: Voiceband compression techniques are employed in order to enable an RF telecommunications base station to accommodate data signals of high speed voiceband modems and FAX machines. An Ultra-High Speed Codec supports voiceband modem and FAX transmissions up to 14.4 kb/s and operates using four 16-phase RF slots. Because these codecs transmit information over several RF slots which can be contiguous, the slots within RF communication channels are dynamically allocated. The Dynamic Time slot/Bandwidth Allocation feature detects and monitors the data transmission and forms a data channel from the necessary number of slots.

  • Patent number: 8593991
Abstract: A system and method of operating a wireless network having a plurality of nodes. Each node determines whether to replace the beacon node. When a node determines that the beacon node is to be replaced, the node determines whether it should nominate itself as a potential replacement beacon node. The decision whether to nominate itself as a potential replacement beacon node is a function of a random number generated by the node. If the node determines that it should nominate itself as a potential replacement beacon node, the node sends out one or more beacon signals. Beacon signals are received by potential replacement nodes and, if the potential replacement beacon node has received a beacon signal from a higher ranking potential replacement beacon node, the node removes itself as a candidate for the replacement beacon node.

Abstract: A method for interference randomization of physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), which is used in long term evolution (LTE) system, when multiple terminals multiplex PUCCH to transmit uplink control signalings, the difference of index of control channel resource used by any two terminals in the first timeslot of PUCCH is different from the difference of index of control channel resource used by the two terminals in the second timeslot of PUCCH. The invention can realize interference randomization between UEs that multiplex the same PUCCH.
