  • Patent number: 9813991
Abstract: A system and method for managing power in a subnet having a hub in communication with one or more nodes is disclosed. The hub and nodes communicate using one or more non-contention access methods, such as scheduled, polled or posted access. The node may enter a sleep or hibernation state while no scheduled, polled or posted allocation interval is pending. The hibernation state allows the node to hibernate through one or more entire beacon periods. In the sleep state, the node may be asleep between any scheduled, polled and posted allocation intervals for the node or during another node's scheduled allocation interval in a current beacon period. By selecting which access scheme is in use, the node and hub can increase the node's chances to be in hibernation or sleep state and minimize power consumption.

  • Patent number: 9781737
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for minimizing scheduling collisions between networks. In one embodiment, the networks are substantially unsynchronized, and during hybrid network operation (e.g., LTE and CDMA 1X operation), a mobile device can place CDMA 1X voice calls while registered with the LTE network. However, since the LTE and CDMA 1X networks are not coordinated, the mobile device will experience scheduling collisions. In one variant, the LTE network accounts for predictable behaviors (such as CDMA 1X paging), and schedules low priority tasks during likely time interval conflicts. Consequently, even though the mobile device must tune away from the LTE network to check CDMA 1X pages, overall LTE network performance is minimally affected.

Abstract: Improvements on latency are achieved for highest priority messaging and channel utilization in a time-slotted access channel structure. New superframe structures are presented where scheduled, but unused access slots can be utilized by secondary nodes. The messaging is accomplished by defining user priorities for nodes and the nodes sensing an ongoing transmission in the network. The time slotted channel access structure has at least one access phase which is divided into access slots. In the beginning of the access phase the nodes sense if a highest priority transmission exist and if not, another node with a lower user priority may initiate transmission.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for scanning amongst two-way radios is disclosed. The method includes applying a scan probability index (SPI) to each member of a scan list, the SPI indicating a likelihood of channel activity. The SPI is dynamically updated by a variety of processes. Members are loaded from the scan list, and the SPI of the loaded member is compared to a threshold. Members are skipped or checked for activity based on the SPI passing or failing the threshold. Members having a sufficient SPI will proceed to have detected channel activity decoded. The method and apparatus may utilize both normal scan members and vote scan member frequencies.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed that involve the indication of neighbor base stations. For instance, a base station may generate and wirelessly transmit a message that indicates a plurality of neighboring base stations. This message may include an indicator having one or more wildcard values. Through the employment of such wildcard values, the indicator may provide information corresponding to the plurality of neighboring base stations. For instance, the indicator may indicate a plurality of base station identifiers (BSIDs). Alternatively, the indicator may indicate a plurality of preamble indices. As a further alternative, the indicator may indicate a plurality of carrier frequencies. Through the employment of such techniques, overhead can be saved without causing ambiguity in mobility management.
