Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate dynamically scheduling orthogonal resource sets for reuse by user devices to reduce inter-cell interference by evaluating an overall scheduling metric for each user device in a wireless communication region. The overall scheduling metric can be evaluated by determining a fairness metric for each user device in a wireless communication region, an overall channel peak desirability metric for each user device, and a channel delay desirability metric for each user device. The overall scheduling metric can be the function of the fairness metric and one or more of the overall channel peak desirability metric and the channel delay desirability metric. A user device with a highest overall scheduling metric score for a given round of dynamic scheduling can be awarded an orthogonal resource set.

Abstract: A technique is provided for determining estimated location of a wireless communication device (WCD) in a network. A first AP transmits a first RSSI data request message, including a BSSID to the WCD at a first time over a radio channel. The WCD then transmits a first response message to the first AP, which then transmits a first measured RSSI value to a trilateration engine (TE). At a different, second time, a second AP can switch to the radio channel and transmit a second RSSI data request message that includes the BSSID of first AP to the WCD over the radio channel. In response, the WCD transmits a second response message to the second AP, which then transmits a second measured RSSI value to the TE. A third AP performs a similar message exchange. This technique collects RSSI information from the WCD at the APs without disrupting any of their connections.

Abstract: Techniques involving wireless communications are disclosed. For instance, an embodiment provides an apparatus having a first transceiver and a second transceiver. The first transceiver engages in wireless communication using a first technique that employs control packets. The second transceiver engages in wireless communication using a second technique. The second technique may establish a transmission priority over the first technique. Also, the first transceiver may refrain from transmitting the control packets at predetermined times to prevent collisions with prioritized transmissions received by the second transceiver.

Abstract: In a trading system market data from a matching engine is distributed by a broker to a plurality of trading floors repeatedly every T seconds, typically one second. This one second distribution period is divided into a plurality of time slots and each trading floor is randomly assigned to a slot. Data for a given trading floor is calculated and distributed during the time slot assigned to that floor. The position of a trading floor relative to others is varied by swapping a pair of adjacent time slots every J distribution periods.

  • Patent number: 7848344
Abstract: During the transmission of subscriber-specific data, particularly via a transfer medium and according to a transmission principle based on time slot transmission with time slot separation, the transfer medium used by several subscribers can also be efficiently used when the data rates of the data transmitted in the transmission direction (SRI) and the reception direction (ERI) for at least one subscriber using the transmission are differently, i.e. asymmetrically distributed. To this end, the data to be transmitted for each subscriber are transmitted, as in the case of a symmetric data distribution, in at least two time slots (ZS) per a periodically returning time frame (ZR, ZR1, ZR6) and corresponding to the asymmetrical distribution of the ratio of a number of transmission data packets (SDP) to reception data packets (EDP) in a plurality n half time frame of the time frame (ZR, ZR1 ZR6) with n being greater or equal to 2 or ? N.

  • Patent number: 7839883
Abstract: The present invention concerns methods and apparatus for implementing a multi-user advance reservation system where reservations are specified in terms of flexible constraints, inflexible constraints and business values. The specification of reservations in this manner allows an entity managing the reservation system to arbitrate among reservations received from a user population with a view toward maximizing business value across the user population. In methods and apparatus of the present invention, penalties and rewards associated with various reservation outcomes can be specified in reservations to assist in business value maximization. In an example, a reservation having a low business value may be declined when there is a significant possibility that a reservation having a high business would be submitted during the pendency of service delivery to the user issuing the reservation with a low business value.

Abstract: In a network comprising a source, a destination, and intermediate nodes along a route between the source and the destination, techniques are provided for allocating one or more time slots to transmit a particular data stream along the route based on the QoS requirements to transmit the particular data stream. In one implementation, a Scout Request message (SRM) is sent from the source to the destination to allocate time slots along the route to transmit a particular data stream to the destination. The SRM can include QoS requirements to transmit the particular data stream. Each intermediate node along the route can allocate one or more time slots to transmit the particular data stream based on the QoS requirements needed to transmit the particular data stream along the route.

  • Patent number: 7788381
Abstract: The real-time aspects of keep-alive generation are removed from the dynamic routing protocol (DRP) application and are embedded within a Unix-based operating system, which is programmed by DRP. A keep-alive control provides the ability to create a keep-alive message and a timeout interval on a TCP socket. Each socket can have an independent keep-alive message and timeout interval. A keep-alive message is sent whenever the TCP socket sends no normal user output for a duration exceeding the timeout interval. A timeout interval is normally specified in seconds and a keep-alive message is user definable and must not exceed a predetermined length in bytes. System calls are used to set the timeout interval and keep-alive message independently. Both a timeout and a keep-alive message must be set before the timeout becomes active.

Abstract: A network, such as a radio network, uses dynamic transmission scheduling and soft clustering. When nodes contend for data slots, each node that is successful continues to have its data slot reserved for it until it sets an end-of-stream bit in an information summarization packet, indicating that it will stop broadcasting. From the information summarization packets, each node determines the other nodes to which it will listen, based on proximity and information content.
