Abstract: A traffic adjustment method and an apparatus, which relate to the communications field, so that statistics on traffic of a receiving apparatus that needs to receive a first multicast packet can be accurately collected in a process of multicast packet transmission. A specific solution is as follows: A sending apparatus sends a first multicast packet, and determines whether an identity of a first receiving apparatus is in a receiving list of a first group, and if the identity of the first receiving apparatus is in the receiving list of the first group, the sending apparatus acquires multicast traffic of the first receiving apparatus, and subtracts the multicast traffic of the first receiving apparatus from preset traffic allocated to the first receiving apparatus to obtain corrected traffic of the first receiving apparatus.

  • Patent number: 9602399
Abstract: A mesh network, operating as a virtual Ethernet switch, includes multiple nodes operating as Mesh Network Gateway Interfaces (mesh NGIs) enabled for communication with one or more shared access networks. Selectively coupling the multiple NGIs to the same shared access network provides redundancy and load balancing aimed at improving the reliability and performance of the network. A first architecture is based on a gateway group, including a plurality of NGIs enabled to communicate with a single shared access network via a designated broadcast server elected from among the NGIs. A second architecture is based on a plurality of (physical) NGIs enabled to communicate with a single shared access network via one or more designated nodes in the shared access network. The designated nodes, or Mesh Servers (MSs), operate as virtual NGIs, and traffic entering or exiting the mesh flows through one of the MSs, thus improving packet broadcast efficiency.

  • Patent number: 9603146
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system to help manage data buffering, which may in turn help manage air interface resources. In accordance with the disclosure, when a base station detects transmitting data transmission to a WCD at a rate exceeding a defined rate cap, the base station may then predict how long it will be before a data buffer that would hold excess data for transmission to the WCD would reach a threshold fill level where the base station would increase air interface resources used for transmission to the WCD. The base station may then determine, based at least on that predicted duration, whether and/or to what extent to the increase the threshold fill level of the buffer, to help defer the buffer from reaching the threshold fill level, and thus to help defer increasing of air interface resources used for transmission to the WCD.

A decision is made about whether the signal indicates a discontinuous transmission on the channel using the signal to noise ratio, the bit error rate and the amplitude modulus.

Abstract: A portable media device (PMD) can produce an isochronous audio/video experience when the PMD provides a digital audio signal to the accessory while displaying analog video on an accessory-independent display. The accessory can communicate audio latency information to the PMD. The PMD can delay a video portion of a presentation, relative to providing the digital audio signal to the accessory, based on the audio latency information communicated by the accessory. As a result, the user may perceive an isochronous presentation of the audio and video portions of the presentation.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture for distributing communication of a data stream among multiple devices are disclosed. Example methods disclosed herein include sending a request to a network to establish a shared connection to distribute communication of a first data stream among a plurality of devices. The request is generated by a separate device that is different from the plurality of devices. Such example methods also include receiving, in response to the request, network addresses to be used to establish respective data connections with the plurality of devices. The respective data connections are to carry respective partial data streams forming the first data stream. Such example methods further include aggregating the respective partial data streams received from the plurality of devices via the respective data connections to form the first data stream.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for receiving high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) transmissions are disclosed. An HS-DSCH medium access control (MAC-ehs) entity receives MAC-ehs protocol data units (PDUs) via a high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) while in one of Cell_FACH, Cell_PCH, and URA_PCH states. The reordering PDUs included in the MAC-ehs PDUs may be sent to a next processing entity without performing reordering of the PDUs. A certain reordering queue may enter a suspend state upon occurrence of a triggering event and MAC-ehs PDUs distributed to the reordering queue in the suspend state may be forwarded to the next processing entity without performing reordering. MAC-ehs reset procedure may be extended for a certain transmission such that the MAC-ehs reset is performed after receiving a MAC-ehs PDU in a target cell.

  • Patent number: 9438478
Abstract: A method and associated systems for using a software-defined network (SDN) controller to automatically test cloud performance. A bandwidth measuring and optimizing system associated with the SDN controller detects a triggering condition and, in response, directs a network-management tool to measure a bandwidth of a segment of a physical infrastructure of a network and directs the SDN controller to provision a virtual machine that then measures a bandwidth of a corresponding segment of virtual infrastructure that is overlaid upon the physical segment. In some embodiments, these two tests are synchronized so as to concurrently measure physical and virtual bandwidths while the same test data passes through the virtual infrastructure segment. The measured bandwidth of the virtual segment is then compared to the measured bandwidth of the physical segment in order to determine an efficiency of the virtual network.

Abstract: Communication networks and methods are disclosed for performing Quality of Service (QoS) throttling for mobile devices. One embodiment comprises a network element that serves a mobile device for data services. The network element includes a control system that monitors usage of the mobile device that is accessing the data services. The network element further includes a policy system that identifies that the usage of the mobile device reaches a usage threshold, and determines a reduced QoS responsive to reaching the usage threshold. The control system then downgrades the QoS provided to the mobile device for data services based on the reduced QoS. The policy system may further send a notification to the mobile device that the QoS is reduced.

Abstract: A messaging application running on a computing device utilizes a navigation model that exposes user interfaces (UIs) which implement a messaging conversation history in a minimized form so that a user can quickly jump to a desired conversation displayed on a chat card without having to toggle back and forth between a conventional messaging list view and chat card views. The minimized conversation history can be implemented using a scrollable carousel of images that is persistently displayed on the UI. The images represent messaging participants (i.e., contacts) that are arranged in an ordered display according to conversation history. The particular contact that is associated with the currently displayed chat card is highlighted in the carousel using color and/or other graphic treatments. As messaging activities occur and new messages come in and are sent out, the carousel is dynamically updated to show the contacts in the appropriate sorted historical order.
