Abstract: A cable modem termination system (CMTS) is disclosed that allocates one or more minislots of a super-frame arrangement to cable modems for upstream transmission. The super-frame arrangement includes multiple minislots that correspond to multiple communication channels of one or more super-frames. The CMTS receives requests for upstream bandwidth from the cable modems. The CMTS continuously allocates the minislots of the super-frame to provide upstream bandwidth grants to accommodate these requests. The CMTS communicates the upstream bandwidth grants as a single upstream bandwidth allocation map (MAP) to the cable modems.

Abstract: An embodiment may include circuitry that may facilitate, at least in part, assignment, at least in part, of at least one bandwidth reservation for at least one packet stream and/or at least one stream reservation class. The at least one bandwidth reservation may be greater than an expected communication bandwidth of the at least one packet stream. The assignment of the at least one bandwidth reservation may be made prior to commencement of communication of the at least one packet stream. The at least one bandwidth reservation may be assigned exclusively to the at least one packet stream and/or the at least one stream reservation class. Many modifications, variations, and alternatives are possible without departing from this embodiment.

  • Patent number: 9014210
Abstract: A method, a computer program product, and an apparatus for determining retransmission feedback resources are provided. An apparatus receives a downlink resource assignment over a control channel and obtains an offset related to a region for retransmission feedback resources. The offset is determined based on a type of the control channel. The apparatus determines resources for communicating retransmission feedback for communications received over the downlink resource assignment based on an index of a resource related to the downlink resource assignment and the offset. The apparatus transmits retransmission feedback for the communications over the resources.

  • Patent number: 9014002
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing an Anti-Flooding Flow-Control (AFFC) mechanism suitable for use in defending against flooding network Denial-of-Service (N-DoS) attacks is described. Features of the AFFC mechanism include (1) traffic baseline generation, (2) dynamic buffer management, (3) packet scheduling, and (4) optional early traffic regulation. Baseline statistics on the flow rates for flows of data corresponding to different classes of packets are generated. When a router senses congestion, it activates the AFFC mechanism of the present invention. Traffic flows are classified. Elastic traffic is examined to determine if it is responsive to flow control signals. Flows of non-responsive elastic traffic is dropped. The remaining flows are compared to corresponding class baseline flow rates. Flows exceeding the baseline flow rates are subject to forced flow rate reductions, e.g., dropping of packets.

Abstract: Different data communication architectures deliver a wide variety of content, including audio and video content, to consumers. The architectures employ channel bonding to deliver more bandwidth than any single communication channel can carry. In some implementations, the communication architectures distribute data across multiple orbital angular momentum channels in the bonded channel group.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to the allocation of bandwidth on a global large scale network. Systems and methods are provided to base bandwidth allocation on the predicted bandwidth demands of the network users. In allocating bandwidth, each user is assigned a user weight value, and is to be allocated bandwidth in proportion to that value. In addition, the bandwidth allocation is enforced so as to ensure that bandwidth allocation policies are maintained.

  • Patent number: 9008122
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes reserving a first amount of bandwidth with respect to a path in response to a reservation request from a sender. The reservation request specifies a plurality of acceptable amounts of bandwidth including the first amount of bandwidth and a second amount of bandwidth. The first amount of bandwidth is less than the second amount of bandwidth. The method also includes determining, after reserving the first amount of bandwidth, that additional bandwidth sufficient to accommodate the second amount of bandwidth is available, and automatically providing a first indication that the additional bandwidth is available. Automatically providing the first indication that the additional bandwidth is available includes providing the first indication to at least the sender. Finally, the method includes obtaining a second indication, the second indication being arranged to indicate whether the second amount of bandwidth may be accommodated with respect to the path.

Abstract: Within a wireless network, feedback information from user equipment (UE) to a control node (eNodeB) is necessary to support various functions. A UE receives an allocation from the eNodeB comprising a plurality of periodic transmission instances for a channel quality indicator (CQI) and a schedule comprising a plurality of periodic transmission instances for a rank indicator (RI), wherein the CQI comprises RI and other CQI fields. The UE then transmits an RI without transmitting the other CQI fields in a transmission instance allocated for both RI and other CQI fields.

  • Patent number: 9007917
Abstract: After statically provisioned paths are created through an Ethernet network, trunks may be created to extend along those paths. The trunks extend between pairs of NNI interfaces on either end of the path, and Ethernet OAM may be run over the trunks to detect connectivity along the paths. Service instances and service groups may be provisioned over particular paths through the network. Each service instance/service group is associated with a trunk and the Ethernet OAM service on the trunk may be used to provide Ethernet connectivity OAM for the service instance/service group. Upon detection of a failure on the trunk, the service instances/service groups associated with the trunk may be caused to failover to an alternate path through the network. Thus, a single Ethernet OAM service instance may be used to provide connectivity verification so that connectivity detection does not need to be performed on each individual service instances/service group.
