Abstract: Various embodiments of systems and methods for data message exchange in a client server network are described herein. In various embodiments, a client and a server network may implement a data message protocol for message exchanges. A method of an embodiment ensures message delivery, acknowledge message delivery, message delivery in a specific order, resending of lost data messages, and the like. In various embodiments, such data exchange may optimize data transmission and resource consumption in a client server network. A server can store data messages in a buffer and resend them only when requested by the client, as in the case of lost or out of sequence data message. A client with limited storage space need not concern itself with storing data messages and processing them at a later point in time. Furthermore, a client may optimize data transmission by acknowledging bulk data messages, rather than acknowledging them individually.

  • Patent number: 8351468
Abstract: As additional channels are added to a communication system for applications, such as standard density (SD) and eventually high density (HD) Video on Demand (VOD), additional capacity can be realized by reducing the time required to transmit content. A reduction of transmission time (or an increase of the transmission rate) can be achieved by bonding channels of the communication system. The bonded channels typically provide a statistical multiplexing gain because the additional bandwidth is treated as a large single channel for the download. Bonding channels of the communication system can provide high speed downloading of content, such as video content, far in excess of the playback rate. Using bonded channels can relax the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of a data stream, such as a video stream, over an internet protocol (IP) network.

  • Patent number: 8295304
Abstract: When a signal-to-noise ratio affecting radio communication becomes sufficiently low, then the data transmission rate is responsively decreased in compensation. The signal-to-noise ratio of the communication link is thereby increased. Data for multiple different services is transmitted in data packets between two radios. By allocating one part, or time slot, of the data packet's payload to one service, and allocating another part, or time slot, of the data packet's payload to another service, communications sessions for multiple services can be maintained concurrently. Services are prioritized relative to each other. In case the signal-to-noise ratio becomes too low, data packet portions that are related to lower-priority services can be omitted from some data packets before those data packets are transmitted. Data remaining in the packet can be sent at a reduced data transmission rate without causing the quality of service for the remaining packets to fall below the minimum required level.

Each permuted packet ?n(i) is modulated to provide a complex vector x(?n(i)) for each packet. The packets are transmitted over a AWGN channel so each individual packet i is received as a variable of the vector x(?n(i)) in a complex vector yn=x(?n(i))+vn, wherein n represents the sequential number of the transmission attempt for a particular packet and vn represents noise. This method enables the packets to be transmitted while using an improved ARQ routine that includes soft-combining decisions and a constant constellation with a constellation complexity greater than two bits/symbol to thereby significantly improve ARQ-routine performance over the current state of the art.

The method includes determining a size of a standard data unit, and determining if the standard data unit can be transmitted within a single sub-channel of an uplink frame by comparing the size of the standard data unit with a number of bits that can be transmitted within the uplink frame as determined by an uplink quality. If the standard data unit is too large to be transmitted within a single sub-channel of an uplink frame, then the standard data unit is divided into sub-data units. The sub-data units are transmitted over multiple uplink frames.

  • Patent number: 8284680
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for multicast transmission of a transmitting station in a wireless network. The method according to the present invention transmits a plurality of data packets to a plurality of receiving stations, receives information on loss of the plurality of the data packets from at least one of the plurality of the receiving stations, codes the plurality of the data packets into a single coded data packet based on the information on the loss of the plurality of the data packets and transmits an error control frame including the coded data packet to the plurality of the receiving stations. Therefore, when an error occurs at a data packet that a transmitting station transmits to a plurality of receiving stations by a multicast transmission, a number of retransmission of the data packet can be reduced.

Abstract: A method for an Ethernet to bear ATM cells includes: mapping the ATM virtual connection information in the first ATM cell received from the ATM network to an Interworking Identifier (IW ID); combining the IW ID and the cell payload of the first ATM cell into an Ethernet frame; and transmitting the Ethernet frame in an Ethernet network. An apparatus for an Ethernet to bear ATM cells is also disclosed. The embodiments of the present invention implement network interworking on the data link layer (layer 2) and enable an ATM network to perform ATM emulation in a metropolitan area Ethernet (MEN) independently of the upper-layer protocol, thus facilitating the user.

  • Patent number: 8274996
Abstract: In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for adaptive data unit transmission. A sliding window is filled with data units and designates a sliding window start position and a sliding window end position. A value for each of the data units in the sliding window is stored, the value representing a maximum number of times that each data unit is to be transmitted. The stored value is different among at least two of the data units. Data units are selected from the sliding window to be assembled into a packet. An assembled packet is transmitted to a receiving computerized device. A determination that the data unit positioned at the sliding window start position has been transmitted a maximum number of time is performed, and in response a different data unit is positioned at the sliding window start position.

Abstract: A method for efficiently scheduling virtual resource blocks to physical resource blocks is disclosed. In a wireless mobile communication system that supports a resource block group (RBG) allocation scheme, for distributed mapping of consecutively allocated virtual resource blocks to physical resource blocks, there is proposed a mapping method capable of increasing the number of distributed virtual resource blocks to a maximum while satisfying gap limitations, when the length of the physical resource blocks is different from the length of the distributed virtual resource blocks. Also, the number of distributed virtual resource blocks and the structure of an interleaver are limited for efficient scheduling.

  • Patent number: 8274995
Abstract: Transmitted signals are modified to facilitate the emulation of circular convolution in non-contiguous transmission environments. These modified signals may be derived from well-known signature sequences. In an exemplary method, a tail portion of a final segment of a base signal is prefixed to an initial segment of the base signal, to form a first transmit segment. One or more additional transmit segments are formed by prefixing, to each of the one or more segments of the base signal other than the initial segment, a tail portion of the immediately preceding segment of the base signal. The transmit segments so formed are transmitted in respective ones of the plurality of non-contiguous transmit-time intervals. Corresponding methods for receiving the transmitted segments and reconstructing the base signal are also described, as are corresponding transmitting and receiving apparatuses.

  • Patent number: 8270436
Abstract: Synchronization between a transmitter and a receiver with respect to the boundary of higher-layer logical data structures is improved by considering both the statistical likelihood of the value of a transmitted boundary indicator and the quality of the channel during the transmission. A boundary indicator received under poor channel quality, that is decoded to a statistically unlikely value, is suspect and one or more retransmission is requested. A reliable value of the boundary indicator is a retransmitted boundary indicator received during good channel conditions; the value of two boundary indicators received successively, both under poor channel conditions, that decode to the same value; or a majority vote of three successive boundary indicators, the first two received under poor channel conditions. The accuracy of the received boundary indicator is increased, at a cost of one, or at most, two, retransmissions.

Abstract: A wireless communication system comprises a broadcast transmitter broadcasting textual and multimedia information to a remote receiver unit. The broadcast transmitter is operably coupled to a signal manipulation function and arranged to receive and process a broadcast signal that comprises both a textual portion and multimedia information. The signal manipulation function separates the textual and multimedia information into multiple bursts of data sub-blocks, wherein substantially each sub block comprises the textual data and a sub-block of multimedia information for transmitting to the remote receiver unit. By implementing the aforementioned inventive concepts, faster access to the most important (i.e. semantic) part of the transmitted information can be obtained.
