    Abstract: A guaranteed rate port scheduler (GRPS) is used for serving multiple destination ports simultaneously without under-runs, even if the total bandwidth of the ports is more than the bandwidth capability of the device. Certain network protocols, such as Ethernet, do not allow “gaps” (called under-runs) to occur between bits of a packet on the wire. If a network device is transmitting packets to several such ports at the same time and the combined bandwidth of these ports is more than the device can source, under-runs begin to occur within the transmitted packets. The disclosed GRPS solves this problem by: (a) the GRPS serves only as many destination ports at a given time as can be “handled”, and (b) the GRPS fairly selects new destination ports to serve after every end-of-frame data packet transmission by effectively “de-rating” the statistical bandwidth of each destination port in proportion to the diminished capacity of the device.

An MHG in the present invention enables a developer to create mobile applications using standard web development tools. The MHG allows standard format command messages to be used throughout the pathway between a mobile device and an application program on a web IP server at a particular URL.

    Abstract: A modular reconfigurable multi-server system with hybrid optical and electrical switching fabrics for high-speed networking within a wavelength-division-multiplexed based photonic burst-switched (PBS) network with variable time slot provisioning. An optical high-speed I/O module within the multi-server system includes an optical switch with the control interface unit. A server module of the multi-server system statistically multiplexes IP packets and/or Ethernet frames to be transmitted over the PBS network, generate control and data bursts and schedule their transmission. Then, the server E-O converts the bursts, and then transmits the optical bursts to the optical I/O module. The optical I/O module then optically transmits the bursts to the next hop in the optical path after processing the optical control burst to configure the optical switch, which then optically switches the optical data burst without performing an O-E-O conversion.

    Abstract: A multi-channel transmission system that provides dynamic mapping of data to channels is described. In one embodiment, a packet of data to be transmitted is broken up into a number of fragments. Fragments are loaded into transmit buffers. Active buffers are indicated by bits in an active-fragment register and active channels are indicated by bits in an active-channel register. A transmit buffer to channel mapping is provided by multiplexers. The multiplexers are controlled by a channel mapping table that uses the data in the active-fragment register and the active-channel register to decide which transmit buffers are mapped to which channels. Each transmit buffer can be simultaneously mapped to more than one channel in order to allow the same data to be simultaneously transmitted on more than one channel, thereby increasing the likelihood that the data will be successfully transmitted even if some of the channels are rendered inoperative.

    Abstract: An intercom system utilizing peer-to-peer computer network hardware that shares bandwidth between digital audio transport and inter-processor data communications on a common time-division-multiplexed (TDM) parallel bus. The system hardware automates symmetric, simultaneous, variable-length data block transfers among all of the microprocessor-controlled cards in the system. These cards communicate without intervention by or assistance from a central controller or intermediary communications processor, thereby improving system throughput and reliability and decreasing system complexity. An additional benefit of the communication scheme employed herein is that all system cards automatically track changes in the population of other cards in the system. The intercom system described employs a Configuration Card connected to a configuration computer to provides the system supervisor with the ability to quickly configure the system for a particular use without altering the system's hardware configuration.
