  • Patent number: 11889582
Abstract: Embodiments of this application provide a wireless communication method and a terminal device, to flexibly judge, according to configuration information of a network device, whether a PDCP layer entity needs to re-established, thereby preventing a re-establishment operation from being performed when the PDCP layer entity does not need to be re-established, and then reducing signaling overheads. The method includes: receiving, by a terminal device, configuration information that is used to perform mobility management on the terminal device and that is sent by a network device, where the configuration information includes indication information, and the indication information is used to configure a packet data convergence protocol PDCP layer entity; and determining, by the terminal device according to the indication information, whether to re-establish the PDCP layer entity.

  • Patent number: 11463909
Abstract: A wireless communication utilizes robust header compression efficiently with improved improvements in packet data convergence protocol configuration for increasing channel throughput. A user equipment (UE) receives a configuration indicating a first listing of header generic options that are supported between the UE and a first base station. The UE obtains a first packet including a first uncompressed header that indicates header parameters. The UE determines whether the header parameters in the first uncompressed header corresponds to at least one header generic option in the first listing of header generic options. The UE communicates the first packet that may have a first compressed header based on a first header compression profile or an uncompressed header depending on whether the header parameters in the first uncompressed header corresponds to at least one header generic option in the first listing of header generic options.

Abstract: A partially-built image stored in a buffer (such as for output to a display device) is combined by an image decoder with an encoded image update. The image is in a different format than the encoded image update (such as by being in a spatial domain, whereas the encoded image update is in a frequency domain). The image decoder operates, at least in part, by encoding the image to attain a same format as the encoded image update, combining the encoded image and the encoded image update, and decoding the result for storage in the buffer as an updated version of the image. The encoded image update is part of a progressive encoding. The encoding and/or the decoding are optionally lossy. After the image reaches a predetermined quality threshold, such as a perceptually lossless quality threshold, residual encoding/decoding techniques are optionally used for image updates.

Abstract: A method and system for selecting a data compression technique for data transfer through a data network is provided. During call setup, information is gathered from the network infrastructure by receiving feedback from smart network devices, reviewing calls logs, or by accessing a network topology database, and the information can then be used to select a desired compression technique. During a call, a media terminating end device or a call control server will monitor call connection performance specific to the data transfer pathway used for the call connection, and may adjust the data compression to conform with the performance that the connection is providing at any given moment. Performance parameters such as delay, jitter, and compression ratios can be measured in real-time for a call to determine if a change in compression is deemed beneficial. In this manner, the compression method can be chosen based on real time network performance.

Abstract: Aspects describe dynamically adjusting a reordering release timer to mitigate latency in a MAC-hs queue. Information already available at a mobile device is utilized for current packets and for missing packets to dynamically adjust the value of the T1 timer in an effort to mitigate latency. Further, the network might provide information regarding HARQ attempts, which mobile device can utilize for computing the dynamic value of the T1 timer. The network might signal the amount of time the mobile device should subtract from timer T1 for every HARQ transmission. Further, the T1 timer might only be dynamically adjusted for a subset of radio bearers.

  • Patent number: 8244883
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for communicating compressed and uncompressed content over a transport layer connection established by an appliance between a client and a server. One method comprises the steps of: establishing, by an appliance, a transport layer connection between a client and a server, and receiving, by the appliance, a first response from the server to a first client request, and a second response from the server to a second client request The first response and the second response has uncompressed data. The method includes transmitting, by the appliance, the first response to the client. The appliance identifies first type of compression from a plurality of compression types for compressing the second response to the client, compresses the second response based on the identified compression type, and transmits the compressed second response to the client.

  • Patent number: 8189592
Abstract: A telephony system and method is provided that reduces delay and provides better utilization of upstream bandwidth in delivering packet telephony services to a plurality of subscriber lines via a cable modem system. An exemplary system includes a plurality of voice processing modules, a host processor, and a buffer. Each voice processing module receives digital voice signals from a separate set of subscriber lines, compresses the digital voice signals to generate a voice packet, and transfers the voice packet to the buffer. The host processor then assembles a packet by concatenating the voice packets and transmits the assembled packet for delivery over a data network. Because the plurality of voice processing modules process the voice packets in parallel, delay is reduced in the assembly and transmission of the assembled packet.

Abstract: A node of a telecommunications network comprises a first function configured to perform a first operation on a first portion of a packet handled by the node and a second function configured to perform a second operation on a second portion of the packet. The first function and the second function are configured to employ a shared transaction for operating on the packet whereby, by virtue of the shared transaction, after performance of the first operation and the second operation, the packet has less overhead attributable to the first function and the second function than if the shared transaction had not been employed in performance of the first operation and the second operation.
