Using A Dedicated Signaling Channel (i.e., D-channel) Patents (Class 370/524)
  • Patent number: 7330542
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for establishing a connection to a terminal device, wherein a user capability information defining supported types of information streams is set in a compatibility information element within an outband signaling message, and a capability negotiation is performed by transmitting said outband signaling message via an outband control channel. The code or user capability information may be set at the terminal device or at an intermediate network element based on a subscriber profile information obtained from a subscriber database. Thereby, the user capability, such as a multimedia session composition, can be already negotiated or handled during the outband call setup phase, and a corresponding inband negotiation can be avoided.

Abstract: An application service provider provides to remote networked computers service sessions using one of a plurality of similarly functioning software applications residing on different servers with different unique network addresses. To request a service session, a remote computer transmits a “probe request” to a unique network address associated with the service provider. A load balancer then assigns one of the servers to provide the service. The service provider then sends back to the remote computer a “probe response” providing the unique network address of the assigned server. Thereafter, for packet-based messages sent by the remote computer that are part of the service session, the messages are addressed to the unique network address of the assigned server. “Probe request” and “probe response” messages may also be used during the course of a service session for fault tolerance.

  • Patent number: 7310356
Abstract: Systems and methods for automatically discovering the configuration of network and/or communication facilities are provided. The determination generally involves receiving and/or sending at least one test message or packet with special characteristics that normally would be filtered by filtering/forwarding entities in connectionless routed cores, but normally would be forwarded by connectionless communication facilities. If the communication facilities do not contain the filtering/forwarding entity, the at least one test packet will be forwarded or passed through the communication facilities. If the at least one test packet is filtered or not passed, then at least two scenarios are possible. First, the at least one test packet may be filtered and may be silently discarded in which case a determination that the network did not pass the at least one test packet may be made based upon a timeout of a counter.

Abstract: A normalizing signaling gateway (NSG) routing node receives a first signaling message formatted according to a first variant of a common or standard signaling protocol, such as ISUP, and creates a second signaling message based on the first message. The second signaling message includes a normalized component and a variant component. The second signaling message may then be routed to a second NSG routing node or to a media gateway controller. Because the NSG routing node converts messages to and from variants of a standard signaling protocol, the media gateway controller is not required to support all of the variants of the standard signaling protocol, and its complexity is reduced.

  • Patent number: 7280532
Abstract: In a call set-up method using SIP-T overlap signaling, rather than waiting for receiving every digit of a called number dialed by a caller, when digits capable of a number translation are received, a bearer channel connection is immediately performed so that a delay in transmission of a ring back tone can be prevented. In addition, in case of using a user data protocol (UDP) within an Internet protocol network in order to connect an originating PSTN and a terminating PSTN, INVITE messages are transmitted with some time difference, which makes it difficult for the terminating PSTN to know the transmission order of destination digits. In transmitting the messages using the UDP protocol, SIP “To” header lengths of the INVITE messages are compared in order to recognize a transmission order of the dialed digits. Therefore, more effective sequence delivery can be provided.

  • Patent number: 6882629
Abstract: Heretofore, depending on a network (switching device) to be used, call releasing has not been normally finished since a time until data link releasing took a value intrinsic to the device. According to the present invention, the counting of a predetermined time is started depending on determination as to the execution of call releasing. Then, depending on the passage of a predetermined time, the process of releasing a data link is started.

Abstract: A first ATM multiplexing node is connected to a second ATM multiplexing node via an ATM network. A number of calls detecting unit detects the number of voice calls set up on the transmission path that connects the first ATM multiplexing node to the second ATM multiplexing node. A signal VC capturing unit captures signal VCs in accordance with the additional number of voice calls detected by the number of calls detecting unit. A signal VC releasing unit releases signal VCs in accordance with the decrease in the number of calls detected by the number of calls detecting unit.

  • Patent number: 6853651
Abstract: A method and apparatus for wireless communication for non-latency-dependent data comprises receiving data to be transmitted over a digital control channel. If the data is appropriate for transmission over the digital control channel, then the data is so transmitted if the network conditions are favorable for such a transmission. If network conditions are not favorable for transmission over the digital control channel, then the data is queued for future transmission.

  • Patent number: 6839419
Abstract: A system for using an under-utilized data channel for carrying additional data, in a network mode. One such channel is the D-channel in the ISDN system. In one implementation, a group of telephone call centers share data, using the D-channel, about the lengths of time incoming callers must wait before being answered. Using the shared data, the call centers collectively route incoming calls to call centers having smaller waiting times.

  • Patent number: 6839344
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for establishing and maintaining a backhaul link over an Internet Protocol based network for transporting Layer 3 ISDN messages. A signalling gateway establishes a TCP connection to a Media Gateway Controller through the IP based network. The Layer 3 ISDN messages generated within an ISDN network attached to the IP based network are then transported between the signalling gateway and the Media Gateway Controller over the TCP connection. The integrity of the TCP connection is monitored using a heartbeat mechanism based on UDP packets. Both the signalling gateway and the Media Gateway Controller transmit UDP packets at regular intervals, and monitor for the arrival of UDP packets from the other device. If a provisioned number of consecutive UDP packets do not arrive from the other device, then a failure of the backhaul link is declared. The signalling gateway then attempts to re-establish the backhaul link.

  • Patent number: 6819674
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for changing characteristics of a signalling link in a communications system including at least two signalling points and at least one signalling link through which signalling information is transmitted from a first signalling point to an adjacent signalling point. The signalling traffic to be relayed is monitored at a signalling point. A procedure for modifying user connections is performed. A modification request message including an identifier value for identifying the object of modification is sent to the adjacent signalling point. The system flexibly adapts to a temporary increase in signalling load. A set of identifier values are used for identifying signalling links allocated in advance to signalling links between adjacent signalling points. When signalling traffic meets a predetermined condition, a signalling link is modified by inserting in the modification message an identifier value belonging to the set.

  • Patent number: 6804267
Abstract: Transceiver training is optimized for xDSL modems operating in TCM-ISDN environments under NEXT and FEXT interference. Current ITU-T draft recommendations provide for dual bitmaps that are switched synchronized with the burst cycle of TCM-ISDN to provide a data stream having dual bit rates. These recommendations also provide for a single bitmap mode where the NEXT bit map is off. Prior to transceiver training, a modem does not know which mode has been selected. Transceiver training is optimized if the mode selection is known prior to transceiver training and the training signals are designed properly for the selected mode. To accomplish this, the mode selection is exchanged early in the modem initialization process, for example, during initial handshaking. By exchanging the mode selection earlier in the modem initialization process, the modem is able to improve transceiver training and configure properly for the type of data communication (e.g., full-duplex, half-duplex).
