Abstract: The invention provides a method and an arrangement for detecting moving point-targets within a large set of noisy measurements. The method is based on Bayesian model selection where the measurements containing targets are modeled with their physical trajectories and the non-target measurements are modeled with the statistical distribution of measurements containing no targets. An a posteriori probability density function is utilized together with a optimization algorithm specifically designed for this problem. Advantages of the invention involve a numerically efficient formulation of the a posteriori probability density, combined with the optimization algorithm. The main applications of the invention are in detecting moving targets within e.g., radar, sonar, lidar and telescopic measurements. The method is also applicable for multi-instrument data fusion.

  • Patent number: 8213492
Abstract: A processing module produces improved main channel estimate. This process involves initially estimating the channel impulse response. This result is based on and combined with a known sequences such as that provided by training sequences of the midamble within RF bursts. From this combination, it is possible to produce an estimated signal from a convolution of the channel impulse response and midamble. The estimated signal may be cancelled or subtracted from the received signal to produce a clearer image of the disturber signal. A blind data recovery performed upon the disturber signal. The recovered disturber data may be used as a reference for disturber channel estimation in order to produce a disturber channel impulse response. With the estimated disturber channel impulse response and the recovered disturber data, an estimated disturber signal may be reconstructed and subtracted from the received signal. This allows the cancellation of the estimated disturber signal.

Abstract: [Object] To prevent or reduce the degradation in transmission characteristics caused by fast fading (fluorescent lamp interference) to achieve optimized throughput. [Solution] A process for detecting fast fading (fluorescent lamp interference) is performed (ST2). Fast fading is detected by, for example, detecting a variable light source whose frequency is twice the frequency of an alternating current power supply. When fast fading is detected, a frame length update process is performed (ST3, ST4). In the case of “subject transmission” in which the subject apparatus is the transmitter of a data frame, the setting of the maximum number of aggregations in frame aggregation (A-MPDU, A-MSDU) is changed to “the recommended maximum number of aggregations”. “The recommended maximum number of aggregations” is set in advance so that the UDP throughput can be maximized under the conditions where fast fading has occurred.

Certain, initially developed discrete denoisers employ an analysis of the number of occurrences of metasymbols within the received, noisy signal in order to select symbols for replacement, and to select the replacement symbols for the symbols that are replaced. Abstract: A carrier signal acquisition technique is disclosed. An improved course carrier frequency offset algorithm is employed in conjunction with a conventional fine carrier frequency offset algorithm. The course carrier frequency offset algorithm estimates large offsets that are multiples of the carrier spacing that may occur at system startup. A spectral null is placed in the center of the transmit spectrum and is thereafter located in a received signal. The position of the spectral null provides an estimate of the local oscillator carrier offset. A frequency finite state machine (FSM) processes a number of metrics to ensure the reliability of the course carrier frequency offset and of transitions between acquisition and tracking modes. The frequency FSM will utilize the frequency offset (modin) generated by a MODSC algorithm provided one or more predefined thresholds are satisfied.

This selection scheme uses spatial correlation, channel reciprocal condition number, delay spread and average Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) information to select the antenna radiation pattern at the receiver. Using this approach, it is possible to achieve capacity gains in a multi-element reconfigurable antenna system without modifying the data frame of a conventional wireless communication system. The capacity gain achievable with this configuration selection approach is calculated through numerical simulations using reconfigurable circular patch antennas at the receiver of a MIMO system that employs minimum mean square error receivers for channel estimation. • Patent number: 8165474
Abstract: A modulated optical system with anti-clipping reduces or corrects clipping that might occur in the laser as a result of negative spikes or peaks in a multichannel RF signal. The system generally detects an envelope of the RF signal to generate an anti-clipping signal that follows at least a portion of the envelope and prevents one or more negative peaks from causing clipping by adjusting a bias current in response to the anti-clipping signal. The system may also reduce cross modulation by clamping the anti-clipping signal at an anti-clipping limit during lower power periods of the RF signal.

Abstract: A dual adaptive importance-sampling system and method is provided that can estimate the probability of events by combining dual complementary importance-sampling simulations. The present invention exploits the ability to determine an optimal biased pdf using an iterative procedure that requires relatively little a priori knowledge of how to bias. Hence, the present invention is particularly suited for evaluating the BERs and/or WERs of coded communication and storage systems, and is generally applicable to arbitrarily chosen codes. When applied to coded communication and storage systems, the present invention provides a versatile technique for the fast and accurate estimation of BERs and WERs of FEC codes down to values of 10?20 or lower.

Abstract: Beamforming may be used in MIMO communication systems to further enhance spectral efficiency. Beamforming refers to beamed transmissions to a single destination (e.g., a station) at a time, to enhance the rate and/or range of transmission. To perform beamforming from a source to one or more destinations, a channel and/or beamforming matrices corresponding to the channel needs to be known at the source, which may be obtained as feedback from the destination. However, the beamforming matrices may not be smooth over frequency as it is fed back from the destination. Therefore, certain aspects of the present disclosure provide beamforming feedback options, resulting in the smoothness of a beamforming matrix.
