Patent number: 9579429Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a surgical cassette with compliant clamping zones to provide more uniform loading. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a surgical cassette includes a clamping portion that is configured to deform to conform to non-uniform load profile applied to the cassette. The clamping portion can include ribs that are sized and made of a suitable material such that the ribs will deflect predictably in the elastic region and flow plastically when the material yield point is exceeded. The use of ribs creates discrete small load areas that will deflect and distort predictably and non-catastrophically at high loads. This allows for the absorption of accumulated tolerances between the clamping mechanism and cassette (e.g., the non-parallelism between the clamping mechanism and cassette) while still providing a distributed load on the cassette.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2006Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: Novartis AGInventors: David Williams, David Domash, Jeffrey Jikang Chun, Mark A. Patent number: 5007075Abstract: In a device for holding down the lower cassette portion (19a) of an X-ray film cassette which is located in a cassette unloading and reloading apparatus, a hold-down lever (20, 21) is mounted to each of two parallely guided bars (10, 12) movable towards and away from each other respectively, said hold-down lever being pivotable into, and out of the transport path of the X-ray film cassette to accurately position said cassette. Each hold-down lever (20, 21) comprises a control arm (20a, 21a) resting against each of the two side walls (19d, 19e) of the upper cassette portion (19c). Since the control arms (20a, 21a) are upwardly inclined such that they form control surfaces facing the side walls (19d, 19e) of the upper cassette portion (19c), the hold-down levers (20, 21) are held in engagement with the lower cassette portion (19a) when the upper cassette portion (19c) is in its open position and are disengaged from the lower cassette portion (19a) when the upper cassette portion (19c) is in its closed position.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1989Date of Patent: April 9, 1991Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Bernd Mirlieb, Heinrich Killguss

Patent number: 4987308Abstract: A cassette for removably housing a stimulable phosphor sheet for storing a radiation image therein comprises a flat box-like front plate and a cover member openably coupled with the front plate. A foamed material is secured to the inner surface of the front plate, thereby preventing the stimulable phosphor sheet from being scratched when the sheet is taken out of or inserted into the cassette. The foamed material has at least one notch for exposing a part of the inner surface of the front plate, so that the stimulable phosphor sheet housed in the cassette does not come in contact with the foamed material at the portion of the notch and can be readily separated from the foamed material when the stimulable phosphor sheet is taken out of the cassette.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1989Date of Patent: January 22, 1991Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kaoru Tamura, Shumpeita Torii

Patent number: 4965455Abstract: An x-ray film has a flexible sheet having a front face and a rear face, a layer of an x-ray stimulable phosphor on the front face, and a layer of mangetically attractable material, for example a steel foil, on the rear face. This film is used with a film handling apparatus, normally a reader, having structure forming a flap support surface of a size at least equal to that of the film and at least one permanent magnet is imbedded in the structure and extends over the surface. Thus the rear face of the film can be adhered magnetically to the surface. An array of stripping elements is distributed over the surface and each element is displaceable through the surface between a recessed position below the surface and an advanced position projecting past the surface. An actuator can displace the elements from their withdrawn to their advanced position and thereby lift from the surface a film clinging magnetically to the surface.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1989Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Assignee: AGFA-Gevaert AGInventors: Rudolf Schneider, Jurgen Muller, Volkmar Voigtlander

Patent number: 4951306Abstract: A cassette for holding sheet film during exposure to x-radiation includes first and second hingedly connected panels. Both panels are curved substantially cylindrically when in the open condition, with the axes of the cylinders parallel to the hinge line and with the convexities facing one another. One of the panels is formed of carbon fiber reinforced plastics material and additionally, in some regions, deviates from the cylindrical by being curved towards the other panel, when in the open condition. Thus, while the cylindrical curvature is convex towards the other panel the regions of curvature out of the cylindrical exhibit some concavity towards the other panel. Such a panel improves the contact of the intensifying screens with the film and also the integrity of the light seal at the periphery of the cassette.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1989Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Frank W. Patent number: 4947419Abstract: A cassette for x-ray film has a cover and a bottom. A magnetic sheet is secured to the cover and a fluorescent screen is, in turn, secured to the magnetic sheet. A ferromagnetic foil is mounted on the bottom of the cassette and carries a second fluorescent screen. When a sheet of film is inserted in the cassette and the cassette is closed, the film is flanked by the fluorescent screens, which, in turn, are flanked by the magnetic sheet and the ferromagnetic foil. The magnetic sheet and ferromagentic foil are attracted to one another and thereby urge the fluorescent screens into engagement with the film. The ferromagnetic foil is mounted on the bottom of the cassette via connecting elements which permit the ferromagnetic foil to undergo relatively large amounts of movement relative to the bottom of the cassette. In this manner, the ferromagnetic foil can conform to deformation of the cassette.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1983Date of Patent: August 7, 1990Assignee: AGFA-Gevaert AktiengesellschaftInventors: Manfred Schmidt, Reimund Kluge

Patent number: RE35284Abstract: An X-ray sheet film cassette is assembled of a bottom wall, side walls and a cover hinged to an upper part of one side wall. The lower part of the one side wall adjoining the bottom wall is reduced in thickness to form an abutment for the sheet film. The inner surface of the cover is provided with a resilient pressing pad which during the closing of the cover urges the sheet film against the abutment and in the closed condition of the cassette presses the film against the bottom. In this manner, when taking X-ray pictures of a part of patient's body which forms an angle relative to another body part, the unexposed section of the first mentioned body part which is adjacent the other body part, is minimized and well defined in position relative to the other body part.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1994Date of Patent: June 25, 1996Assignee: AGFA-Gevaert, AGInventor: Walter Bauer
