Having Switching To Other Communication Modes Patents (Class 379/100.15)
  • Patent number: 10986140
Abstract: A method in a communication system is disclosed. In the method a procedure for setting up a communication link between a first user equipment and a second user equipment via a communications network is initiated. Information regarding at least two modes of communication that can be used for communication via the communication link is signalled between the first and second user equipment. An indicator regarding a mode to be used for the communication is also signalled between the first user equipment and the second user equipment. After the signalling steps, a procedure for setting the mode of communication in accordance with the indicator is initiated in at least in one of the user equipment. According to an alternative embodiment signalling for reserving a possibility for at least tow different communication modes occurs between elements of the communication system.

Abstract: A communication apparatus for performing automatic reception processing of a calling signal received on a telephone line, by power supplied from a first power supply, includes an image processing unit, a detection unit, a counting unit, and a power supply control unit. The image processing unit performs image processing on image data received over the telephone line, by power supplied from a second power supply. The detection unit detects a calling signal received on the telephone line, by power supplied from the first power supply, while power supplied from the second power supply is stopped. The counting unit counts the number of calling signals detected by the detection unit. The power supply control unit starts supply of power from the second power supply on the basis that the number of detected calling signals counted by the counting unit reaches a predetermined number.

Abstract: RF duplexing and methods of operating the same are described herein. In one embodiment, an RF duplexing system may include a control circuit and a duplexer with a first tunable RF filter and second tunable RF filter. The control circuit is operable in a full duplexing transmission mode and a half duplexing transmission mode. The control circuit tunes the first tunable RF filter in the full duplexing transmission mode so that the first tunable RF filter defines a transmission passband and tune the second tunable RF filter so that the second tunable RF filter defines a receive passband. Also, the control circuit tunes one of the tunable RF filters so that the tunable RF filter defines the passband while the other tunable RF filter enhances the passband. In this manner, the tunable RF filters in the duplexer are both utilized to get better performance during the half duplexing mode.

  • Patent number: 7907708
Abstract: In a communications network, voice and facsimile calls are established between first and second and second terminals via first and second media gateways in a communications network. Each gateway is capable of autonomous transitioning between a voice over IP (VoIP) call mode and a facsimile over IP (FoIP) call mode. A bearer path for the call is established via a media gateway controller. During call setup, the media gateways exchange confirmation of each gateway's capability to perform autonomous transitioning between VoIP and FoIP call modes. The call is established as a VoIP call, and, on a determination by the media gateways that a facsimile call is required, each media gateway autonomously transitions between its VoIP and FoIP call modes without the intervention of the media gateway controller.

Abstract: A platform provides access to multiple telecommunications services via a single telephone number. These services may include, for example, voicemail services. facsimile messaging services, paging services, and outbound calling services. A guest caller may call the single phone number to speak to a subscriber, leave a voicemail message for a subscriber, leave a facsimile message for a subscriber or place a page to a subscriber. A subscriber may call the phone number to place outbound calls. In addition, a subscriber may call the single phone number to retrieve or send facsimile messages and/or voicemail messages. A subscriber may also call the phone number to configure service options. For instance, a subscriber may select routing options and choose what services are available to Quest callers.

  • Patent number: 7782494
Abstract: When a facsimile device detects an audio signal via a CNG signal detection unit while detecting an OFF signal in a CNG signal during a telephone conversation, the facsimile device does not detect the audio signal as an OFF signal if the level of the detected audio signal is greater than a threshold and the frequency of the audio signal is within a predetermined audio frequency range. Accordingly, the facsimile device can reliably prevent a false detection of a noise that has a similar signal component to a CNG signal as a CNG signal. It is possible to prevent the facsimile machine from being automatically shifted to a facsimile receiving made by the false detection of the noise.

Abstract: A communication device enables a voice communication with another communication device connected to a communication circuit network. The communication device has a calling signal detection system that detects whether a calling signal is received from the other communication device via the communication circuit network, a circuit closing system that is configured to close a circuit connecting the communication device and the other communication device when a communication starting operation is performed by a user after the calling signal detection system detects the calling signal from the other communication device, a state detection system that detects whether the calling signal currently received is in ON or OFF state, and a standby control system that controls the circuit closing system to await closing the circuit until the state detection system detects the OFF state of the calling signal if the state detection system detects the ON state of the currently received calling signal.

  • Patent number: 7409451
Abstract: Techniques are provided for leveraging narrowband connectivity (such as dial-up communications or other types of low bandwidth communications) to provision or configure broadband connectivity between a broadband access provider and a broadband device, such as a DSL modem or a cable modem. Specifically, because narrowband connectivity does not require advance configuration or provisioning by the host system of connectivity parameters for an access-seeking device, a modem at an access-seeking device may be leveraged to establish a narrowband connection between that device and a host system and to enable an exchange or negotiation of connectivity parameters necessary to enable future broadband connectivity. Thus, once established, the narrowband connection may be used as a conduit for communicating required provisioning information between the broadband-enabling host and the access-seeking device to enable broadband connectivity by the device in the future.

  • Patent number: 7400426
Abstract: It is an object to provide a communicating apparatus and its program in which in the case where the RTC pattern or the RCP frame cannot be received due to the noises or in the case where a modem diverges and data cannot be normally demodulated, a procedure signal can be certainly detected, the modem can advance to a low-speed mode, and a possibility of a communication error can be remarkably reduced. During the image reception, both a carrier of V.21ch2 modulation and data signal quality (EQM) in a high-speed mode are, in parallel, monitored. When the data signal quality (EQM) deteriorates to a value larger than or equal to a predetermined threshold value and the carrier of the V.21ch2 modulation is detected, the modem advances to the low-speed mode and the procedure signal is received.
