  • Patent number: 10764426
Abstract: An acquisition unit acquires a reference time that is a reception time when a signal was received from another terminal or a call origination time when the other terminal device transmitted a signal. A storage stores a call origination time when a signal was transmitted to the other terminal device. A controller selects, by referring to the reference time acquired by the acquisition unit and the call origination time stored in the storage, a first communication mode in which communication is started after a predetermined user operation is performed in the other terminal device or a second communication mode in which communication is started even when the predetermined user operation is not performed in the other terminal device. A communication unit transmits a signal to the other terminal device in accordance with the communication mode selected by the controller.

  • Patent number: 9860407
Abstract: A communication apparatus for performing automatic reception processing of a calling signal received on a telephone line, by power supplied from a first power supply, includes an image processing unit, a detection unit, a counting unit, and a power supply control unit. The image processing unit performs image processing on image data received over the telephone line, by power supplied from a second power supply. The detection unit detects a calling signal received on the telephone line, by power supplied from the first power supply, while power supplied from the second power supply is stopped. The counting unit counts the number of calling signals detected by the detection unit. The power supply control unit starts supply of power from the second power supply on the basis that the number of detected calling signals counted by the counting unit reaches a predetermined number.

Abstract: There are provided a communicating apparatus capable of connecting a message recording device and performing facsimile communication, and a control method for the communicating apparatus. In a mode in which the message recording device responds to an incoming call, if it is detected that an incoming call has disappeared, counting by a repeat incoming call timer starts. If a next incoming call is detected before a time-out of the repeat incoming call timer occurs, counting by a message recording monitoring timer for counting a message recording response time starts. If the message recording device does not capture a line before a time-out of the message recording monitoring timer occurs, and the incoming call has not disappeared, facsimile signal reception processing starts.

  • Patent number: 9219814
Abstract: This invention provides a communication apparatus, which suppresses abrupt changes of a current and voltage generated in a communication line upon connecting an external telephone to the communication line, and a control method thereof. To accomplish this, in a communication apparatus of this invention, when an off-hook state of an external telephone is detected upon connecting the external telephone to a communication line, an SOC captures a line using a first line capture means having an impedance lower than the external telephone side, and then switches an H-relay to connect the external telephone to the communication line. Furthermore, the SOC temporarily switches a line capture state to a second line capture means having an impedance higher than the first line capture means after the H-relay is switched and before the line is released.

  • Patent number: 9042532
Abstract: Methods and systems for processing inbound fax messages in an efficient and scalable manner are provided. According to one embodiment, an inbound fax call is received by an Internet fax system. The fax call has a source address, a destination address and a fax signal. The Internet fax system is coupled to a circuit-switched network and a packet-switched network and includes multiple fax processing resources having different configurations, features, capabilities or capacities. One or more desired fax protocol technical call processing capabilities are determined for processing the fax signal based on one or more of the source address, the destination address, the type of network through which the fax call was received and a service provider through which the fax call was received. Then, a fax processing resource that has the desired fax protocol technical processing capabilities is dynamically selected to translate the fax signal into a digital representation.

  • Patent number: 6771752
Abstract: In order to allow various user setups associated with a communication using a plurality of communication channels, the number of communication channels used in a communication with a single partner is varied depending on whether or not the automatic answering mode is set. The number of communication channels used in the communication with the single partner can be independently set in correspondence with transmission and reception. The number of communication channels used in the communication with another communication partner can be independently set in correspondence with whether an incoming call or a call origination request is detected.

  • Patent number: 6657990
Abstract: A system is provided that establishes communication between a first system and a second system. A request is received to establish a connection between the first system and the second system. The system establishes a first connection between the first system and the second system. The first connection is capable of communicating visual data between the first system and the second system. The system also establishes a second connection between the first system and the second system. The second connection is capable of communicating audible data between the first system and the second system. The first system and the second system communicate using both the first connection and the second connection. The first connection can include a network communication link such as an Internet communication link. The second connection may include a telephone communication link capable of communicating telephony signals between the first system and the second system.

  • Patent number: 6473498
Abstract: According to the present invention, a single incoming/outgoing line, such as a telephone line, is enabled to transmit and receive information through a variety of information routing systems. The present invention employs a facsimile machine having a monitor/switching device that enables or disables a variety of communication devices based upon signal traffic detected by the monitor in combination with a set of predetermined user priority parameters. Predetermined user priority parameters may include factors such as the time of transmission, the user identity, a user priority override designation and/or the type of information being transferred.

  • Patent number: 6466659
Abstract: In the existing facsimile apparatuses with telephone function, those having the function of storing the received acoustic signal when the subscriber is absent are known. Hitherto, modulation/demodulation and memory of image data and acoustic data have been executed in independent compositions, and the structure was large and complicated. Besides, various pieces of voice information sent out upon arrival of acoustic signals were also processed in independent compositions, and versatile use was difficult. In the invention, the acoustic data is processed by using image data processing apparatus, and acoustic data is stored in image memory. Moreover, when storing image data and acoustic data in image memory, each memory region is set dynamically. Further, the voice data sent out upon arrival is stored in part of the program memory controlled by the CPU. As a result, the structure is reduced in size and simplified, and complicated combined processing of voice signal being sent out may be realized.

  • Patent number: 6332018
Abstract: In a communication apparatus capable of selectively preventing the production of a caller's voice only during the recording of a message without requiring a user to change the message volume setting, a setting unit is provided for allowing setting to be made regarding whether or not the voice signal is to be produced as a voice to be monitored from a speaker simultaneously with the recording of the voice signal. A silencing control unit, including a CPU, performs control such that, if a setting has been made by the setting unit such that the caller's voice is not to be produced, output of the voice by the speaker is prevented or reduced to a substantially inaudible volume during the recording of the caller's voice signal.

  • Publication number: 20010040946
Abstract: A communication apparatus receives the identification information of a partner station, and performs a communication operation in accordance with the received identification information. A first detecting unit detects a calling signal. An identification information receiving unit detects the identification information of a calling party upon detection of the calling signal, and a second detecting unit detects whether or not the terminal of the calling party is a data communication terminal. A registration unit registers the identification information of the partner station in a memory, so that whether the partner station is a speech or data communication terminal can be discriminated later. A control unit checks if the identification information receiving unit receives the identification information of the calling party.

  • Patent number: 6272357
Abstract: A facsimile apparatus has a plurality of portable units, and enables a subscriber to make a call reservation and conduct a telephone conversation on the reserved call, using the portable units. A base unit of the facsimile apparatus sets up a call reservation in response to a call reservation request signal from the portable unit, while the facsimile apparatus transmits and receives image data. Upon completion of transmitting and receiving the image data, the base unit connects a voice communication path between the portable unit and a facsimile of the other party, so that the subscriber can make the call reservation and talk with the other party over the telephone by using the portable unit.
