Estimating Blocking Probability Patents (Class 379/112.03)
  • Patent number: 11909912
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for call traffic anomaly mitigation are described herein. One or more embodiments include receiving a scoring request including a telephone number associated with a telephone call at a scoring device from a call processing entity, receiving a violator list of telephone numbers and their corresponding severity values at the scoring device from an anomaly analyzer, determining a severity value associated with the telephone number by performing a lookup operation in the violator list, performing a random simulation using the severity value as a probability to determine an indicator value, and inputting the indicator value into a model to determine a call reputation score.

Abstract: A method for recognizing a person by identification codes derivable from biometric data includes registering a user, and recognizing a registered user, among registered users, through a recognition event. Each user registration event acquires user biometric data, encodes the data into a respective user's registration identification code, associates the code to the user, and registers the user and the associated code. Each recognition terminal is associated to a respective comparison set, including comparison identification codes corresponding to a registered user's identification code. Comparison identification codes are based on comparison between registered users' localization information and known localization of the recognition terminal. A user is recognized among registered users by a recognition event at a terminal. Each recognition event acquires biometric data from the user, which is encoded. The recognition identification code is compared with each of the comparison identification codes.

Abstract: A digital medium environment is described to determine textual content that is responsible for causing a viewing spike within a video. Video analytics data associated with a video is queried. The video analytics data identifies a number of previous user viewing s at various locations within the video. A viewing spike within the video is detected using the video analytics data. The viewing spike corresponds to an increase in the number of previous user viewings of the video that begins at a particular location within the video. Then, text of one or more video sources or video referral sources read by users prior to viewing the video from the particular location within the video is analyzed to identify textual content that is at least partially responsible for causing the viewing spike.

  • Patent number: 7307997
Abstract: A technique for detecting SPAM calls in VoIP networks and taking responsive actions to such calls is described. Detection is based on recognizing abnormalities in signaling message statistics. For example, a device that persistently sends many more call setup requests then it receives and at the same time constantly receives too many, or too few, call terminations in a statistically determined period of time is assumed to be a spam source. This criteria is based on the principle that a Spammer originates many calls, which are consistently terminated by the Spammer or by the recipient. Responsive actions to the detection of VoIP spam may include displaying a call text warning to the recipient, using special ring tone, automated voice mail answer, rejecting the call, etc. The invention addresses an issue that will become more problematic for VoIP networks and their subscribers in the future, and to which a solution has not been proposed in the prior art.

Abstract: Overload conditions affecting a processor of a network switch or the like are substantially eliminated, and the processing of traffic is gradually allowed to increase, by inserting, and then monitoring one or more probes which are placed into a queue of the processor. During a given measurement interval, if the number of probes exceeds a threshold then an overload condition exists. This condition is subsequently reduced using “multiplicative decrease” techniques. Conversely, if the threshold is not exceeded and there is little or no chance an overload condition can quickly reappear, traffic is allowed to once again be processed gradually using “additive increase” techniques.

Abstract: Methods to identify inter-carrier telephone calls in a telephone system that are being mis-routed in such a way as to violate existing regulatory tariffs and/or established inter-carrier contracts. The common name for this manipulation is “arbitrage”, and the intent of the perpetrators is to take advantage of lower rates associated with the delivery of telephone traffic via other routes. Through the processes of collecting call detail records and their correlation in representative embodiments, various call “legs” associated with the same call can be identified, and a more accurate “compound” call record can be made that incorporates call routing information obtained from the individual call legs. A statistical analysis can then be performed to more clearly illuminate any arbitrage.

A targeted blocking rate is first assigned to the first priority level. During active operation of the telecommunication subsystem, a statistical estimation of an actual traffic intensity for the first priority level is performed. Thereafter, the targeted blocking rate and estimated traffic intensity are utilized in computing a blocking threshold for the first priority level. This blocking threshold defines a number of channels, n, to which access by the second priority level will be blocked, such that the first priority level may achieve its assigned targeted blocking rate.
