  • Patent number: 6385311
Abstract: When one party (25) to a call or connection request invokes a telecommunications service, a platform (30) monitors that request and determines whether the other parties (25) also subscribe to that service. If any party to the call does not subscribe, then the platform makes an offer of that service to each non-subscribed service. In this way, non-subscribed parties may obtain telecommunications services in a “point-of-sale” manner.

  • Patent number: 6381321
Abstract: A telecommunication system includes a plurality of applications, a plurality of telecommunication resources, and a telecommunication services kernel. At least one telecommunication resource is capable of generating an event and each application is capable of responding to an event. The telecommunication services kernel couples a requested application triggered by the event with a telecommunication resource required by the application. The telecommunication services kernel also de-couples the requested application and the required telecommunication resource in response to the requested application completing execution. The required telecommunication resource is now available to other applications. A method for allocating a telecommunication resource to an application in a telecommunications system is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6370141
Abstract: The Internet appliance accesses an HTML page on a Web site containing configuration information for an Internet appliance, such as an Internet compatible telephone. Data from the HTML page are downloaded to the Internet appliance to modify its options or settings automatically upon accessing the HTML page, or as directed by the user. The data may be downloaded to a programmable memory in the Internet appliance and the stored data may be used to upgrade the Internet appliance. The upgrade HTML page may include information to alert the user when the new information is available regarding changes to options and settings of the Internet appliance. Alternatively, data from the Internet appliance are placed in an HTML page and the data are then uploaded to the Web site. Additional embodiments provide other functions that may be placed in an HTML page to effect some internal action in the Internet appliance, such as checking e-mail.

  • Patent number: 6366919
Abstract: A system for maintaining, updating repairing and monitoring remotely located communication equipment sites is described with which the sites can be managed and maintained. Data relative to each site is stored and alterations proposed for the site are automatically monitored and verified prior to implementation. Clients who own and use the sites can confirm the status of the communication equipment through a web site where the client can have access to the data while preserving the proprietary nature of the data as it relates to the client. The status of various equipment is maintained to promptly inform an owner of the site, through access of the web site, of the feasibility of a proposed change in interconnections, or power use or availability of a particular device.
