  • Patent number: 8638906
Abstract: Voice user interfaces can be tested using test scripts generated by traversing a graph using a recursive search technique, such as recursive depth first search. Test data to accompany the test scripts can be generated by treating conditions in states of the interface as business rules, and fully exercising each state during traversal of the graph. Actual testing can be performed in a faster than real time manner by providing simulated input from test scripts, as opposed to requiring actual input from human testers. The interfaces can also be tested using a gatekeeper intermediary which provides for easy transitions between testing and deployment.

  • Patent number: 8018860
Abstract: Re-routing interactions are predicted for a communications network including a plurality of network elements. A respective device state image is constructed for each of the plurality of network elements, with each of the device state images including a failover setting of a respective one of the network elements. The device state images are transmitted to a network simulator. The performance of the communications network is simulated in response to the device state images. A prospective network element failover of a predetermined one of the network elements is transmitted to the network simulator. A performance of the communications network is simulated in response to the device state images modified by the prospective network element failover. It is then detected whether an acceptable performance is maintained in view of the prospective network element failover in order to identify whether is will be permissible to perform a maintenance action on the network element which makes it unavailable to the network.

  • Patent number: 7508868
Abstract: A system abstracts channel information from field data gathered in actual wireless communication system environments. The abstracted data is then transformed into control signals or programming codes that can be used to control channel simulators so as to recreate the field conditions, including path loss, slow fading, fast fading, path delay, fading power spectral density with and without line-of-sight (LOS), and different kind of handoff scenarios, such as soft, softer, intra-band hard, inter-band hard handoffs. The system thus can accurately simulate a realistic wireless communication link originated from multiple signal sources in different band channels and formed by multipath signal propagation. The simulated realistic wireless communication link can be condensed by selecting the most useful scenarios from its original field data files or modified by tuning its parameters as desired.

The method then creates a traffic profile from the traffic distributions and receives at least one call hold time from a user interface, and then transmits the traffic profile and the at least one call hold time to a call generator. Also included is a traffic distribution generator. The traffic distribution generator includes a traffic graphical user interface, user input controls on the traffic graphical user interface and a processor to generate traffic distributions and the distribution and create a traffic profile from the distributions, and a port operable to transmit the traffic profile to a bulk call generator.

  • Patent number: 6792080
Abstract: A method and system for automatically testing E911 systems using digital loop carrier trunks in a laboratory. A testbed running a testing program evaluates the functionality of a digital loop carrier trunk, a channel unit pair, and an E911 switch by measuring a delay and duration of an acknowledgement pulse from the E911 switch in response to an off-hook condition at a simulated PBX. The testbed and testing program also evaluate the functionality of the E911 switch and a simulated PSAP by measuring a delay and duration of a ring signal from the E911 switch in response to an emergency signal sent by the simulated PBX. Once connection between the simulated PBX and the simulated PSAP has been established, the end-to-end signal loss is also measured.

Abstract: A method and associated apparatus for testing telephone system operation. The method comprising connecting a call agent simulator to a network. Call actions or events are applied from the call agent simulator to the network expected to produce expected results in the network. The telephone system operation is verified by comparing the actual results produced to the expected results. In another aspect, an IP network or a consumer premises equipment is verified using the call agent simulator. In another aspect, the telephone system is a Voice over Internet (VoIP) system.

  • Patent number: 6519323
Abstract: A test unit provides testing capability at a network interface device (NID). The test unit may be remotely activated so that testing is initiated upon activation from a remote site. In one embodiment, a characteristic signal is sent over a telephone line toward the NID. A characteristic signal is detected and the testing unit is activated. The testing unit may perform multiple types of tests, including tests for detecting line loss, line noise and latency. The test unit may be implemented using electronic circuitry or using an intelligent computer system.

  • Patent number: 6516051
Abstract: This invention relates to bulk testing of voice messaging applications by playing back an interaction from a recorded script. During development of a voice response system and application it is necessary to simulate a plurality of calls to the system so that the performance under strain can be monitored. Such a simulation can be performed by a bulk call generator which makes real telephone calls to the IVR through a private branch switch. However with bulk call testing some problems occur which rigorous functional and/or performance testing does not find. This is because real callers behave in unpredictable ways which were not expected or assumed by the creators of the functional and/or performance tests.

Abstract: The addition of directory entries into phone devices, such as telephones, is disclosed. The phone devices are coupled to common phone line wiring, and have caller ID, caller log, and directory storage capabilities. Phone calls are simulated to the phone devices. The phone calls correspond to directory entries, such as those that the user wishes to add to the phone devices. Each phone call has caller ID information reflecting a corresponding directory entry. After the phone calls for the directory entries have been simulated, each phone device has a caller log of the caller ID information of the simulated phone calls for transfer into a directory storage thereof.

  • Patent number: 6483909
Abstract: A prepaid service assurance system provides service assurance for a prepaid telecommunication system by generating a call to the prepaid telecommunication system. In response to the call, the prepaid service assurance system then receives an actual response from the prepaid telecommunication system and automatically compares the actual response with an expected response for the prepaid telecommunication system. In other embodiments, the prepaid service assurance system determines whether a modification action is needed based on the comparison of the actual response and the expected response. If the modification action is needed, the prepaid service assurance system identifies the modification action based on the determination that the modification is needed. Once the modification action is identified, the prepaid service assurance system transmits an instruction to provide the modification action for the prepaid telecommunication system.
