An example method, performed by a computer system, may comprise receiving an input stream; processing the input stream to produce a sequence of characters; responsive to determining that the sequence of characters comprises a time reference, storing, in a memory, a calendar entry in a first data structure of a first type, the calendar entry comprising an identifier of a time referenced by the time reference; responsive to determining that the sequence of characters does not comprise a time reference, storing, in the memory, a memorandum in a second data structure of a second type, the memorandum comprising at least part of the sequence of characters.

Abstract: A system enables a device such as a mobile phone to operate as a transmitter and receiver over non-cellular radio frequencies such as very-high frequency (VHF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) not natively compatible with the mobile phone. The system includes a radio appliance coupled to a radio that receives and transmits information over non-cellular radio frequencies. The radio appliance provides an interface between the radio and a web appliance accessible on a network such as the internet. The radio appliance receives information in broadcast from the radio and transmits the information to the web appliance over the network. The web appliance provides mobile devices access to the information received from the radio appliance, such as audio that was broadcast, over the network. Additionally, the web appliance may receive information from the mobile phone for transmission to the radio appliance and subsequent broadcast by the radio.

Abstract: A system for facilitating automated response to a distress signal includes an attachment for a multifunction mobile computing device. In some embodiments, the attachment removably articulates to a sensor location coupled to a housing of the multifunction mobile computing device. In some embodiments, the system includes a computer program product in a non-transitory computer-readable medium. In some embodiments, the program instructions are computer-executable by the multifunction mobile computing device to implement detecting a disarticulation of the attachment from the sensor location on the multifunction mobile computing device, and, responsive to the detecting the disarticulation of the attachment from the sensor location on the multifunction mobile computing device, transmitting to a distress signal response receiver over a radio-frequency network from a radio-frequency transmitter located within a housing of the multifunction mobile computing device the distress signal.

Abstract: Described is a technology by which a storage at a telephone device (e.g., a client telephone) is synchronized with information corresponding to actions performed at a computing device (e.g., a server) on behalf of the client. For example, the server may employ speech recognition to recognize a name or number spoken into the client telephone, and in response, dial out a corresponding telephone number for the client telephone. This action is synchronized back to the client storage so that the client's call history includes knowledge of the server's dialing action. Thereafter, an action at the telephone device that accesses the call history (e.g., for redialing or scrolling) obtains the full call history, independent of whether the telephone device or computing device performed the action. Changes made via telephone device may be similarly synchronized to the computing device, such as directly dialed calls, user-input speed dial information, and so forth.

Abstract: A system and method to provide content and call attributes for a destination phone number using a click-to-dial connection includes accepting a query, retrieving links to a document, and searching through cached data using the query to identify relevant or destination number information. If no match is found, the method continues with accessing the document identified by the link for identifying relevant number information and creating a click-to-dial icon to link to the relevant numbers included in the relevant phone number information identified by the query. Next, a popup box for content relevant to the click-to-dial icon and a click feature on the popup box are created to retrieve call destination attributes for viewing by a user. Further, computer instructions create at least one communication connection between two communication devices after viewing call destination attributes.

Abstract: An embodiment may include, in response to selecting of a displayed telephone number, prompting issuance of a click command to make an outgoing call to the displayed telephone number. The selecting may be indicated by highlighting the displayed telephone number. In response to an incoming call, a message may be displayed from an operating system. The message may include caller ID data and may prompt issuing of other click commands that, if issued, may result in answering the incoming call, conferencing the incoming call with the outgoing call, and placing on hold the outgoing call.

Abstract: A system and method to provide content and call attributes for a destination phone number using a click-to-dial connection includes accepting a query, retrieving links to a document, and searching through cached data using the query to identify relevant or destination number information. If no match is found, the method continues with accessing the document identified by the link for identifying relevant number information and creating a click-to-dial icon to link to the relevant numbers included in the relevant phone number information identified by the query. Among the contacts that are part of a filtering result list, a default contact is selected for quick access.

Abstract: Methods and systems for encoding and decoding audio signals are described. In one embodiment, a first DTMF tone in an audio signal may be identified and decoded. A second DTMF tone in the audio signal may be identified and decoded at a time delay from the first DTMF tone. A requested action is determined for an electronic figurine associated with the first DTMF tone and the second DTMF tone. The second DTMF tone is different than the first DTMF tone. Additional methods and systems are disclosed.

Abstract: A system stores a set of telephone numbers dialed by a user. The system selects a subset of telephone numbers from the stored set of telephone numbers as the user's favorite telephone numbers based on one or more first scores, where the one or more scores include a frequency score associated with a frequency that the telephone numbers have been dialed by the user and/or a recency score associated with how recently that the telephone numbers have been dialed by the user. The system stores the list of the user's favorite telephone numbers in memory.

Abstract: An apparatus for use in a directory service is disclosed. The apparatus may include a memory configured to store a local directory and a processor configured to manage the local directory, the local directory including a plurality of directory entries organized in a subdomain hierarchical structure, each directory entry being associated with an alias constructed using subdomain hierarchical information, each alias being linked to a user domain associated with a user, the user domain being linked to a record containing contact information for the user.

Abstract: A method of providing telephone services includes receiving an advanced payment. The advanced payment corresponds to a fixed time interval of telephone service spanning at least one day. The method also includes activating service to a mobile device for the fixed time interval and collecting a plurality of call data.

Abstract: An enhanced telephone emulation computer system including a minidialer program for controlling a computer to add telephony functions which can be invoked from whatever active program is currently controlling the computer. The minidialer program controls the computer to alter its processing depending upon the context existing at the time when a mouse click or hot key combination event is detected indicating the user wishes to invoke a telephony function. The minidialer program determines whether the user has highlighted any text or numbers in the active window of the application currently controlling the computer and whether the highlighted material is a name or a phone number, and if a name, whether the name is stored with a phone number in a phone book or file maintained on the computer. Processing and telephony menu options displayed as available also depend upon whether the user is or is not on the phone at the time the mouse click or hot key event occurs.

Abstract: An analog telephone adapter (ATA) comprises a dial tone generator, control logic and a packet generator. The dial tone generator generates a dial tone when the ATA is in an unregistered state. The control logic processes a dial-out request when the ATA is in the unregistered state. The control logic directs the packet generator to generate an invite packet for an emergency proxy to handle the dial-out request on behalf of the ATA when the ATA is in the unregistered state.

Abstract: A method and device for sending a request (R) from a requesting machine (H) to a domain name server (1, 2, 3). A prior test of the validity of the destination telephone number (NTEL) of the request (R) is executed automatically and locally to the requesting machine (H) relative to a database (BD) local to said requesting machine (H) in order to forward the request (R) from the requesting machine (H) to the domain name server (1, 2, 3) only if its telephone number (NTEL) passes said test.

A programmable communication device that includes programmable push buttons operable for providing a user one button access to voice based and text based applications. A storage register is associated with each of the programmable push button and is operable for storing a directory number, such as a telephone number and a server address. The communication device includes a unique programming permission code for security purposes, such as restricting the use/reprogramming of the push buttons. A method of programming device push buttons including entering the programming permission code and selected advanced application information into the device. The method of programming may be done remotely or manually using various provisioning techniques.

Abstract: The invention provides an electronic device including a touch screen and a control system connected to the touch screen. The electronic device may display a digital image via a touch screen and sets at least an interaction region for the digital area. Each interaction region has corresponding interaction information recorded in a recognizing data. When a clicking even occurs on the touch screen, the control system determines whether the clicking position is in the interaction region. If the clicking position occurs in the interaction region, the control system retrieves the interaction data from the recognizing data and operates the electronic device according to the interaction information.

Abstract: The present invention provides speed dial capability for traditional telephones, which are coupled to a terminal adaptor to facilitate calls over a packet network. In operation, the terminal adaptor will receive a speed dial code, such as 12#, from a traditional telephone and use the speed dial code to attempt to initiate a session over the packet network. A proxy will intercept the session request, recognize the speed dial code in the session request, and access an address associated with the speed dial code. The proxy will then use the address corresponding to the speed dial code to initiate a session between the terminal adaptor and another device to facilitate the call. The terminal adaptor will provide the necessary translation between the packet network and the traditional telephony interface to which the traditional telephone is coupled.

Abstract: A method improves mobility and service recovery for a user in a wireless communication network. Service information concerning the user is stored in a registrar. A subscription message is sent from a user terminal to the registrar. A header in the subscription message contains a unique indication. In response to the subscription message containing a unique indication in a header, the registrar returns a notification message to the user terminal. The payload of the notification message includes service information for the user to be used by the user terminal for communication services.

Abstract: A network device, relay service, system and method for electronic communication between a hearing-capable user and a hearing-impaired user are disclosed, which includes a network device for use by a hearing-impaired user to communicate with a first voice phone of a called or hearing-capable user via a relay service. An electronic phonebook within the network device is configured to store at least one entry that includes a phone number of the first voice phone and a relay service type identifier designating a request for a specific level of interpretive services by said relay service. The phone number and the relay service type identifier are passed to a relay service and the relay service is configured to provide varying levels of interpretive services. A voice carry-over interpretive service is initiated when the relay service type identifier designates a request for the voice carry-over interpretive service.

Abstract: A system and method are presented for updating directory entries within an electronic communication device upon receipt of an electronic notification. Electronic communication devices may include, but are not limited to telephones, facsimile machines and electronic organizers. The system and method as described herein allows a portion of a directory entry, which may be referred to as an entry content value, to be updated within a directory of an electronic communication device upon the receipt of an altered value. For example, if a user calls a telephone number of a person listed in a directory entry of the telephone and receives a message stating that the number has been changed, the new number may be electronically transmitted to the directory of the telephone. The transfer searches the directory of the telephone for the existing entry and updates the changed entry content value. Thus, the other entry content values within the directory are not changed.

Abstract: This invention relates to methods for the automatic generation of personal directories that list calls made to or from a specific phone number. The methods comprise the steps of receiving a telephone number related to a call placed or received on a user's phone, storing the phone number along with other information such as the date and time of the call, organizing the information in a useful manner, as well as incorporating other information related to the number such as a name and address, and finally providing the organized list of numbers in the form of a personal directory.

Abstract: There is disclosed an expandable multiline dialing controller which is connected to a computer hosting a database of telephone contact records. The controller is rendered expandable by a capacity expansion interface which allows the connection of second or subsequent dialing controllers in a chain, all of the dialing controllers in the chain sharing the connection to the single computer in telephone contact database. Available operators and available outside lines could be shared between the dialing controllers in the chain. A multiline dialing control system comprising a plurality of such dialing controllers is also disclosed. Also disclosed is the method of conducting a telephone contact campaign in such an expandable hardware environment.

Abstract: An improved user programming method and apparatus for selecting central station features of a telecommunications device such as a telephone by means of voice prompts directly to the line user is disclosed. Prerecorded messages containing specific step by step instructions are used under the control of the central programming system. With such an arrangement, the features of each programmable button on a communications line may be remotely set up or programmed by a non technical user from his or her own phone. Additionally, a voice prompt system for programming a central programming controller may also be used to answer an incoming telephone call.

Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a communication system that enables telephone communications to be quickly performed by a simple operation. A user activates a telephone directory application program on a PDA terminal, and the PDA terminal transmits a destination telephone number to a gateway together with a request for initiation of a call to that destination telephone number and an IP address of a NET telephone terminal that the user desires to use. When an off-hook condition of the NET telephone terminal is detected, the gateway initiates a call to the previously received telephone number and establishes a communication link to a destination NET telephone terminal accommodated in a digital public telephone network. The communication link can be established in the same manner even if the destination telephone terminal is an ordinary telephone terminal accommodated in a public telephone network.

Abstract: A telephone dialer includes tables in memory for determining a dialing sequence such as a long distance carrier code to be appended to a dialed telephone number. A variable length prefix portion of the dialed telephone number accesses a prefix table entry that defines an action descriptor for indicating how the telephone number should be processed in a table lookup to determine the dialing sequence. The action descriptor includes a specification of the number of digits to be dialed to trigger a dialing action and may include an indication of an elapsed time to trigger dialing. The action descriptor also includes an indication of the number of digits after the prefix used to determine an action and may specify one of plural ways in which those digits are used to determine the action. The action descriptor also identifies a pointer table to be indexed by the specified digits of the telephone number.

Abstract: The present invention permits access to information stored on a remote device from a local device without requiring that a complete physical copy of the remote information be made. An enhanced and refined hash table permits access to the remote information in order or according to a search key with significant reduction in the memory requirements on the local device even though the remote information is not sorted. Scrolling through the remote data structure without accessing any unnecessary record on the remote device and hence reducing scroll response time is also achieved.

Abstract: A portable information terminal 1 includes a primary terminal 2 and a secondary terminal 3 which are combinable and separable from each other, and individually have displays 2A, 3Ba, operation keys 2B, 3Aa, RAMs 24, 36, antennas 26, 37, and CPUs 20, 30. The RAMs 24, 36 of the respective terminals 1, 2 store application programs and the CPUs 20, 30 individually control to operate a required function and display an image on the displays 2A, 3Ba. The CPUs 20, 30 are connected through communication between the antennas 26, 37 to systematically share an operation for a required function and to display images associated with each other on the respective displays 2A and 3Ba.

Abstract: A remote telephone call notification system for notifying a user at a remote location that a communication device is receiving a call. The remote telephone call notification system includes a base unit and a remote unit, with the base unit being adapted for interfacing with the communication device and the remote unit being adapted for being toted by a user. The base unit includes a transmitter for wirelessly transmitting to the remote unit, and detection circuitry for detecting reception by the communication device of an incoming ring signal. The detection circuitry causes the transmitter to transmit an activation signal upon the detection of the incoming ring signal. The remote unit comprises a receiver for receiving wireless transmissions of the activation signal from the transmitter of the base unit. The remote unit includes an audible sound device for generating an audible sound upon reception of the activation signal.

Abstract: A system is provided for automatically dialing a number stored in an electronic organizer on a telephone. The system comprises an electronic organizer including memory for storing a plurality of telephone numbers therein, an input device for selecting one of the telephone numbers, and a communicator for transmitting digits of the selected telephone number. The system further includes telephone circuitry adapted to dial digits of the selected telephone number upon the receipt thereof. Further provided is an interface including a communicator in communication with the communicator of the electronic organizer for receiving the digits therefrom and transmitting the same to the telephone circuitry.

Abstract: This invention enables personal digital assistants to quickly and accurately transmit stored telephone numbers directly to an integrated telephone or other communication device containing a dialing device. The preferred embodiment of this invention links the personal digital assistant directly to a compatible communication device. Then the personal digital assistant transmits data and instructions preferably via a wireless connection directly to the telephone, wherein the telephone automatically stores and dials the transmitted phone number. In an alternative embodiment of the present invention, the PDA transmits stored telephone numbers to an external dialing device, wherein the external dialing device transmits the information to a compatible telephone or other communication device and instructs the telephone to automatically dial the transmitted telephone numbers.

Abstract: Telephone directory information is obtained and telephone calls are placed with a telephone, a telephone directory memory storing signals representing names and telephone numbers of subscribers, a display, a QWERTY keyboard and special keys. The microprocessor responds to signals from a telephone keyboard, the QWERTY keyboard and special keys and is coupled with the memory and display so the memory is provided with signals causing names and telephone numbers of subscribers in the memory to be displayed. A modem connected to the microprocessor supplies a telephone dialing signal of the subscriber telephone number on the display to a telephone line in response to activation of keys of the keyboards and a signal from the memory. The memory includes a large permanent memory storing long term subscriber directory data and a smaller non-permanent memory storing recent subscriber data.

Abstract: A system and method for capturing and communicating caller information for a digital communication device are disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, a caller ID device captures caller information from inbound and/or outbound calls. Thereafter, the caller ID device can communicate captured caller information to a digital communication device, such as a digital sender or fax machine, wherein the digital communication device can then communicate data to a destination indicated by the caller information. In a preferred embodiment, the caller ID device can also communicate control signals to the digital communication device to control how the device responds upon receiving caller information from the caller ID device. For example, in a preferred embodiment, the caller ID device can communicate a control signal to the digital communication device that activates the device to communicate data to a destination indicated by the communicated caller information.

Abstract: A method for transferring dual tone multifrequency (DTMF) signals in real time in a computer communications system for performing a telephone call via a modem. In the method, virtual connection with the modem is performed before a user inputs a connection number, wherein the modem is regarded as the external device to be connected. Then, when the virtual connection is achieved, a dual tone multifrequency (DTMF) signal corresponding to a number is transferred in real time through the modem whenever the user inputs the connection numbers one by one.
