Abstract: A history information management device includes a storage capable of storing a predetermined limit number of pieces of setting history information pertaining to execution of a job; and a controller that controls execution of the job by using the setting history information. In a case where the number of pieces of the stored setting history information has reached the predetermined limit number, the controller deletes, from the storage, the setting history information according to a result of use of the setting history information.

Abstract: An improved handheld electronic device and an associated method provide an improved call log that presents information relating to logged phone calls in a collapsed manner, meaning that for each phone number having a call stored in the memory of the device, only the most recent in time call is listed on the call log. An improved handheld electronic device and an associated method also provide a call history for any phone call from the improved call log that is selected by the user. The call history includes a listing of all of the calls stored by the device that are associated with the selected call log call.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to managing phone calls. In some embodiments, an electronic device with a touch screen displays a phone call user interface which includes informational items associated with phone calls, such as an add call affordance. In some embodiments, when the electronic device receives a request to initiate another phone and displays an additional user interface that includes a merge call affordance that replaces display of the add call affordance.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for locally interpreting a voice query and for managing a storage size of data stored locally to support such local interpretation of voice queries. A voice query is received and compared with a plurality of stored voice queries having similar audio characteristics. If a match is identified, text corresponding to the matching stored voice query is retrieved, and an action corresponding to the retrieved text is performed. If the locally stored table does not contain a stored voice query that matches the voice query, the voice query is transmitted to a remote server for transcription. Once the transcription is received from the remote server, the voice query and the transcription are stored in the table in association with one another.

Abstract: Systems and methods for establishing a communications system between multiple electronic devices are described herein. In some embodiments, audio data representing a first utterance may be received from a first electronic device. A user account may be associated with the electronic device, and intent data may be determined from the audio data. Based on the intent data, it may be determined that the utterance includes an intent to communicate with a contact. A list of potential contacts may then be generated. Based on the intent data, a condition may be determined. The condition may represent a particular circumstance in which the utterance was received by the first electronic device, and based on the condition, a plurality of interaction ranks may be determined. A contact name having the highest interaction rank may be determined from the plurality of contacts, and a communications session between the first electronic device and an electronic device belonging to the contact may be established.

Abstract: A voice recognition apparatus includes a communication part configured to communicate with a voice recognition server, a voice receiver configured to receive a user's voice signal, a storage part configured to store guide information comprising at least an example command for voice recognition; and a controller. Abstract: Described is a system and method for updating a contact and adding a new contact from a call log in a communications device. The system includes a contact manager that is directed towards creating and updating call contact cards in a contact database with information retrieved from call logs of phone calls made to or from the communications device. In one embodiment, information is pre-populated into a predetermined data field of the contact card, thereby reducing workload to a user. The method includes determining if a request is for updating an existing contact card or for adding a new contact card to the contact database. The update or addition is made with information retrieved from call logs. Call information is pre-populated into a predetermined data field of the contact card, when it is determined that the request is to add a new contact card to the contact database.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display performs a method that includes: displaying a phone call user interface on the touch screen display, wherein the phone call user interface includes: a first informational item associated with an active phone call between a user of the device and a first party, a second informational item associated with a suspended phone call between the user and a second party, and a merge call icon; upon detecting a user selection of the merge call icon, merging the active phone call and the suspended phone call into a conference call between the user, the first party, and the second party, and replacing the phone call user interface with a conference call user interface. Abstract: Methods and apparatus for using a presence status to generate a list of possible contacts based on a partial entry of a contact address are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, a method includes obtaining at least a partial entry of a destination address that identifies a first destination to be accessed. The method also includes identifying a plurality of potential destinations that each includes the partial entry, and determining a presence status of each potential destination. Finally, the method also includes ordering the potential destinations based on the presence status of each potential destination.

Abstract: One embodiment of the invention sets forth a mechanism for recommended commands to a designer of a graphics design application. Each time a command is executed within the graphics design application, a resource module receives command use information associated with the executed command. In response, the resource module generates and transmits one or more recommendation lists to the designer, where each recommendation list includes a list of recommended commands that may be executed by the designer next. The resource module generates the recommendation lists based on frequency information associated with the recommended commands stored within a local frequency store. The frequency information is received by the resource module from a central server that processes command use information associated with different designers in the community to produce the frequency information.

Abstract: Systems and methods enable configuring and using speed dialing. A first user interface is displayed to a user, the first user interface providing a name field configured to display and/or receive a contact name and a phone address field configured to display and/or receive a phone address associated with the contact name. A speed dial field configured to receive and/or display a speed dial identifier associated with the phone address is provided. When the user later enters speed dial identifier via a telephone, the phone address is called.

Abstract: A method for initiating a communication in a mobile terminal, and a mobile terminal apparatus to perform the method, are provided. The method includes determining whether the mobile terminal has entered a shortcut mode, if the mobile terminal has entered the shortcut mode, searching a phone book for shortcut numbers, which consist of a predefined number of digits and start with an input number, obtaining phone book information corresponding to the shortcut numbers that were found in the phone book and displaying the shortcut numbers and their associated phone book information, and if any one of the displayed shortcut numbers and their associated phone book information is selected, initiating a communication using the selected phone book information or shortcut number.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for automatic correction of numeric input, such as telephone numbers. The communications device configured to perform automatic correction can receive a numeric input string indicating a numerical address with which to initiate a communication, and compare the numeric input string to a database of known valid numerical addresses. Then, upon determining that the numeric input string has no match within the database of known valid numerical addresses, the communications device can identify a known valid numerical address that is within a threshold similarity to the numeric input string, and correct the numeric input string. The communications device can initiate communication using the corrected numeric input string. Also set forth herein are a system and method for automatic completion of partially entered numerical addresses.

Abstract: A communication device and method for managing communication records by using priorities of the communication records so that a user can easily find a desired communication record are provided. In the method, the device receives a priority input for a selected one of the communication records, saves the received priority input as a priority of the selected communication record, and displays a list of the communication records arranged according to the priorities thereof.

Abstract: An exemplary system and method are directed to processing dial strings. A dial plan may be parsed into a plurality of expressions, each including at least one expression element. A rule associated the at least one expression element may be identified and added to an array of a finite state machine. Upon receiving a digit input, a match result indicating whether the digit input matched a corresponding expression element of each expression is determined based on the applicable rule. Expressions may be removed from consideration based on the match result. Digit inputs may continue to be received and match results may be determined based on successive expressions until either a match is determined or no further expressions are available for consideration. The match status may be reported based on the match result.

Abstract: A telephone relaying apparatus 200 receives a request for connection to a second telephone terminal 300 from a first telephone terminal 100. The connection request includes telephone numbers of the first telephone terminal 100 and the second telephone terminal 300. The telephone relaying apparatus 200 stores a real number that is a telephone number used in the case of directly connecting to each telephone terminal and a published number that is a number published for a third party as a telephone number of the telephone terminal in correlation with each other. When receiving the connection request, the telephone relaying apparatus 200 makes a first call with respect to the first telephone terminal 100, and a second call with respect to the second telephone terminal 300.

Abstract: A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes communicating initial digits associated with an original request for a call and receiving a message indicating an incomplete address for the original request. The method also includes responding to the message by appending additional digits to the original request to generate a new request. The additional digits are buffered before receiving the message indicating the incomplete address associated with the original request. In other embodiments, the original request is a session initiation protocol (SIP) INVITE message that includes a uniform resource identifier (URI), which reflects an address for reaching a destination user. The initial digits can be partially matched against a dial plan in order to trigger the message associated with the original request. The additional digits are configured to satisfy the message and to connect the call. The message associated with the original request can be a session initiation protocol (SIP) 484 message.

Abstract: Methods and systems for encoding and decoding audio signals are described. In one embodiment, a first DTMF tone in an audio signal may be identified and decoded. A second DTMF tone in the audio signal may be identified and decoded at a time delay from the first DTMF tone. A requested action is determined for an electronic figurine associated with the first DTMF tone and the second DTMF tone. The second DTMF tone is different than the first DTMF tone. Additional methods and systems are disclosed.

Abstract: A user enters a numeric string on a standby screen of a cellular telephone, and then presses a predetermined function key, the numeric string obtained by numerical conversion of a piece of registration information, in accordance with an assignment relationship indicated on numerical keys of the cellular telephone. A database in which numeric data obtained by the numerical conversion of a piece of registration information in accordance with the above-mentioned assignment relationship and the piece of registration information are associated with each other is previously held in the cellular telephone. The database is searched by using the entered numeric string as a search key, so that pieces of registration information associated with numeric data containing the numeric string are extracted. An exactly matching one of the extracted pieces of registration information is sorted in a high rank and displayed.

Abstract: The invention may be embodied as a method of selecting a service and inputting information to that service. In one such method, an input device having keys is provided. When such a key is pressed and released quickly, the user indicates a desire to enter a symbol on the key in order to enter symbols of an entry string. In addition, one or more of the keys may also be used to identify a service and also supply that service with the entry string. For example, by pressing and holding such a key, the entry string may be delimited and then sent to a service corresponding to the pressed key. In this manner, a single key press may be used to both delimit an entry string and also send the entry string to the service. The service may use the delimited entry string to retrieve information, which is then supplied to the input device.

Abstract: Method, apparatus, and computer readable medium for providing an identifier for a caller identifier (ID) function when processing a communication request between a calling party and a called party in a communication network is described. In some examples, an initial identifier for the caller ID function associated with the calling party is received. A determination is made if the calling party has a virtual identifier configured in the communication network. A determination is made if the called party has a predefined identifier associated with the calling party configured in the communication network. The initial identifier is replaced with a terminating identifier based on configuration of the virtual identifier and the predefined identifier in the communication network.

Abstract: An analog telephone adapter (ATA) comprises a dial tone generator, control logic and a packet generator. The dial tone generator generates a dial tone when the ATA is in an unregistered state. The control logic processes a dial-out request when the ATA is in the unregistered state. The control logic directs the packet generator to generate an invite packet for an emergency proxy to handle the dial-out request on behalf of the ATA when the ATA is in the unregistered state.

Abstract: A device and method for providing simple access to subscriber selected applications that reside in a telephone network. A programmable communication device that includes programmable push buttons operable for providing a user one button access to voice based and text based applications. A storage register is associated with each of the programmable push button and is operable for storing a directory number, such as a telephone number and a server address. The communication device includes a unique programming permission code for security purposes, such as restricting the use/reprogramming of the push buttons. A method of programming device push buttons including entering the programming permission code and selected advanced application information into the device. The method of programming may be done remotely or manually using various provisioning techniques.

Abstract: A mobile wireless communication device like a cellular handset includes multiple communication addresses stored in its memory. Each address is associated with one or more inputs of an input key. For example a first telephone number is associated with a single input of a particular key, and a second telephone number may be associated with two sequential inputs of the same key. The communication address is transmitted from the wireless communication device upon entering the one or more key inputs associated therewith and upon maintaining a last of the sequential key inputs for a predetermined time interval.

Abstract: A method, computer-readable medium, and apparatus for providing ready-to-dial global phone numbers is provided. In one embodiment of the present invention, a telephone number parser parses a received telephone number into a collection of telephone number components. The telephone number parser validates each telephone number component of the collection of telephone number components. A telephone number manager stores the collection of telephone number components. In response to receiving a request for a telephone number, a telephone number assembler generates the telephone number from the collection of telephone number components. The telephone number is configured to be successfully dialed from a location from which the telephone number is to be dialed. Finally, the telephone number manager displays the telephone number.

Abstract: An alias can be used to access address book information across multiple communication applications. The alias can also be a screen name, for example, an instant messenger screen name. However, the alias can be used to access more than just instant messenger contact information; it can be used to access other information, including telephone numbers, SMS, EMS and MMS contact information as well as instant messenger contact information. Additionally, the single alias can be used to access instant messenger contact information across multiple instant messenger services. An alias can be assigned that is easy to remember; for example, it can be a shortened version of the contact's name, or a nickname.

Abstract: A portable communication device engages in voice communication with a plurality of parties by establishing connections between the portable communication device and at least two other parties, positioning the other connected parties at different positions in space in relation to the portable communication device, and providing information in relation to the position of one of the other connected parties when this connected party provides audio information over the connection so that the user of the device can identify which party is active.

Abstract: A telephone enabling a user to search a telephone directory using a simple and trouble-free operation. The telephone has a storage unit for storing names to be called and corresponding telephone numbers, and an operating unit including a plurality of numeric keys that are each assigned different characters. The telephone also includes a control unit. When a key press of at least the predetermined time is received by the operating unit, the control unit searches the storage unit for names that include a character assigned to the pressed numeric key, and displays the found names on a display unit. The user can switch the telephone to telephone directory mode and perform a keyword search simply by pressing a numeric key for at least the predetermined time.

Abstract: A mobile, cellular telecommunications handset (MS1) has a browser to navigate between and provide a display (5) of data from different network addresses. A key (4b) on the device is operable in a first mode e.g. a relatively short press, to navigate between previously listed network addresses. The key is also operable in a second mode e.g. a relatively long press, to provide a selective display of only previously visited homepages so that the user can quickly select a homepage from the previously visited homepage display and navigate directly to the selected homepage.

Abstract: A processor extracts a numeral string from a pager message which has been received via a pager antenna and a pager-signal receiving unit, and retrieves a telephone number including that numeral from a built-in telephone directory memory. The retrieved telephone number is displayed on a display unit, making it possible to determine a complete telephone number.

Abstract: Methods and systems for allowing a user to enter a request, such as dialing input, without having to specify, or otherwise commit to, a particular request method. Upon detecting a user input that represents a user request for service, response data is retrieved that represents an appropriate response to the request should the user intend the request to be in accordance with a first request method. However, other response data is also retrieved that represents an appropriate response to the request should the user have intended the request to be in accordance with other request methods. Accordingly, the user need not commit to a particular request method before entering the request, thus unifying and simplifying the request process.

Abstract: A method for performing speed dialing using symbols in a communication terminal having a touch pad is disclosed. The method comprises registering a symbol in association with a phone number; comparing a symbol input by a user from the touch pad with the registered symbol; and reading, when the input symbol is identical to the registered symbol, said phone number registered in associated with the registered symbol and automatically dialing the read phone number. An error message, or a re-input request message, is displayed when the input symbol is not identical to a registered symbol.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing abbreviated dialing functionality to a user's subscriber terminal or telephone by automatically adding a designated string of digits to any abbreviated extension dialed by the user. The subscriber terminal may include a processor, a memory (e.g., ROM, flash memory, non-volatile memory, hard disk, etc.), a “Send” button or the like, one or more sequences of digits stored in the memory, and a translation routine executable by the processor. The translation routine is executed when the processor determines that the digits entered by the user represent an abbreviated extension, for example, when a user dials fewer than seven digits and presses the “Send” button on a subscriber terminal. When executed, the translation routine automatically prepends or adds one of the stored sequences of digits to the abbreviated extension entered by the user, and then the subscriber terminal dials the resulting composite telephone number.

Abstract: The present multi-media subscriber station has control unit and a plurality of communication devices. Each communication device includes speed dial controls which, when activated but a user, provide for establishing a communication session to a communication end point associated with the speed dial control. Each speed dial control is associated with a programmable image display on which an image associated with the communication end point may be displayed.

Abstract: The present invention permits access to information stored on a remote device from a local device without requiring that a complete physical copy of the remote information be made. An enhanced and refined hash table permits access to the remote information in order or according to a search key with significant reduction in the memory requirements on the local device even though the remote information is not sorted. Scrolling through the remote data structure without accessing any unnecessary record on the remote device and hence reducing scroll response time is also achieved.

Abstract: The present invention comprises four principal elements: (1) a telephone instrument; (2) a computer; (3) an automatic dialer; and (4) a telephone line. These elements allow for automatic dialing of local and long distance calls in the United States, as well as automatic dialing of international calls. The automatic dialing feature is accomplished, in part, by implementing a computerized data base grouped in N-files. These files may be searched by the computer system during and after the caller dials a number. If the dialed number matches one of the numbers in the files, the system may automatically out-dial the dialed number.
