  • Patent number: 9219620
Abstract: This invention provides an enhancement to messaging systems by providing a message notification feature which allows a user to manage only new messages for which a notification has not yet been cleared without having to access or download the entire set of messages. This management may be performed in single window that operates in conjunction with an application associated with the messaging system. The notification management permits manipulation of the message notifications without influencing the status of the messages themselves, while providing access to the data contained in these messages. This addresses the needs of those users who frequently check their incoming communications queues and need to determine very quickly which items need urgent attention and which ones can be deferred. The present invention further provides specific functionalities for handling a particular message when it does need urgent attention.

Abstract: A method for using a mobile software application for deleting or recalling unwanted messages on a mobile device before it is delivered to the intended recipient is provided. The software application operates by running on top of the resident messaging application on the mobile device. For example, the application caches the message for specified amount of time and thereby sets a length of delay. The user has the application on the mobile device and the message is composed on the OST application and the application software keeps the message in a buffer for a predetermined amount of time after the user selects to send the message such that if the user regrets sending the message, it can be deleted or recalled before the message leaves the mobile device. Other advantages that are understood from the present disclosure will further be apparent.

Abstract: A method and system for notifying users of events. Scheduled user activity of a user is monitored, based on user notification information in a storage location. The user notification information pertains to a scheduled event. In response to a detection, from the monitoring, of a change in the user activity, it is ascertained that the change necessitates notifying the user of the scheduled event due to the change impacting whether the user can participate in the scheduled event. The change in the scheduled user activity is independent of the scheduled event. Then the user is notified of the scheduled event. The user notification information in the storage location is modified, based on the detected change in the user activity, in response to receipt of an instruction from the user to change the user notification information in the storage location.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a first computing device communicating with a second computing device through a communications channel transmits an out-of-band message indicative of the urgency of the communication through a notification channel. In particular embodiments, a server acts as a proxy for relaying the out-of-band message from the first device to the second device. The second device calculates an implicit urgency score based on the communication characteristics, and combines the implicit score with the explicit urgency indicator to determine whether a call is urgent. In particular embodiments, communication handling may be affected by the determination of urgency.

  • Patent number: 9014348
Abstract: Embodiments are provided for utilizing speech analytics for automatically managing messages in a communications network. A message from a calling party to an unavailable called party is recorded in a messaging management module. The messaging management module automatically identifies a category for assigning to the content of the message based on information associated with the unavailable called party or a calling party and associates a language model with the message content based on the category. An analysis module utilizes the language model to identify grammar making up the message content. The messaging management module automatically performs a messaging management function on the message content based on a set of rules. The messaging management function may include automatically determining a priority for the message (enabling the message to be retrieved out of order) or automatically triggering an action in response to the message which is directed to the unavailable called party.

  • Patent number: 9015252
Abstract: A system for forcing e-mail addresses into the Bcc: field of transmitted messages in order to enforce user privacy. A user interface enables a user to indicate that their e-mail address is not to be included in a “To:” or “Cc:” field of an e-mail message from another user when the number of e-mail addresses contained in those fields exceeds a threshold size. The user's e-mail address and the associated threshold are stored for future reference when new messages are sent by the other user. Subsequently, when a new message is generated by the other user in which the number of e-mail addresses contained in the “To:” and/or “Cc:” field exceeds the threshold, then the disclosed system moves the user's e-mail address from the “To:” or “Cc:” field to the “Bcc:” field of the message before the message is transmitted to its recipients. Privacy messages may either be sent individually to specific users, or may be automatically generated as a result of a general privacy setting being indicated by the user.
